Is Pope being a good soldier

I’m starting to wonder if Pope is being a good soldier and there are NIL issues? Is it possible this is why Pope “whiffed” on so many portal guys this year given the issues being thrown around regarding current recruits?

I have been extremely critical of Pope‘s ability to land the right guys but is there a reason out of his control?

Is it that far fetched that Mitch who screwed up contracts for Cal and Stoops with the ridiculous buyouts, who took the easy way on hiring Joker and Elzy (possibly Pope) has taken an easy approach to NIL and screwed up with JMI?

What is in the contract and why did Mitch get so upset and say something along the lines of we aren’t going to break the rules? That was an odd statement. Is our NIL structure so conservative compared to others? Did Mitch mess this up? Just seems so odd that NOBODY is on board combined with the reporting that NIL is holding up Collins.

I really want Pope to work out but he’s got to land some ”dudes”.

If a coach is true to his system he doesn't need the one and done types anyway. Going after those guys reminds me of Tubby going after them and promising he would play different if he had that guy. It worked early. he had the number 1 recruiting class with the Morris class. then he hooked them to the plow just like always. He was done getting elite players.

Then you can go too far. You can bring in a Mo D and let him shoot 3 pointers at will. How's that working out? It's like Pope never watched Mo D play before.

Boosters are probably realizing even with a big NIL you still have to close the deal on these recruits. Pope simply hasn’t or is incapable of closing the deal and ends up desperate and overspending on lower-tier guys because they know we’re struggling.

Basically right now it seems it is pay to play and it seems it is moving to a true revenue sharing and NIL deals that must be legit service contracts—at least if the SCORE act is passed. Mitch is a HUGE proponent of the SCORE act but is it really changing yet? If other schools are still using collectives to in essence pay for play and JMI/Mitch want actual endorsement deals in place, is the NIL money there like other schools? I don’t know. But to have zero commits is bizarre and the Collins issue seems to validate there are issues. Is the issue getting the endorsement deals lined up?

You keep saying that, but we all know most top recruits and portal guys want the biggest check. System or not if you can play, the NBA will find you and he continually strikes out. That doesn’t scream massive money.

What does this mean? Obviously, there doesn't seem to be a defensive system and there is nothing in Pope's offensive system that isn't widely used in the NBA.

OP has good instincts and absolutely anyone who treats seriously the claim we are spending 22 million on this roster is lying to themselves at this point. We were told that by the Lexington Herald and then it just got echoed throughout Kentucky media with no one attempting to validate the claim at all.

I’m hearing JMI won’t let them make 3’s. Pope is definitely being a good soldier and keeping this quiet. Also back off of criticizing his rotations, those JMI rotations too. We’re gonna have to wait 15 years to make 3 and have a solid rotation because of the contract Barney signed. Does anyone know if other programs are not allowed to make shots? Did Mitch mess up?
