Illinois has announced that its Thanksgiving home games against Northwestern for 2015, 2017 and 2019 will be played at Soldier Field (to accomodate students home for the 4-day weekend.) Unfortunately, as a result, their stadium in Champaign will be available for the IHSA football championships.

What does this mean for the games at NIU? What about those of us who live in the Chicgo area 365 days a year? Will we be stuck going downstate where the stands will be 10% filled?

Can't wait to see that turf for the Bears after having the Prep Bowl on Friday and Illinois-Northwestern on Saturday.

Could this Illinois/NW at Solider deal be the final nail in the coffin for having the Prep Bowl there as well?

better yet with he new regime directing the Bears is this the year Soldier Field finally get Field Turf?? I just makes zero sense not to have it as then they can use Soldier Field so many more times for different events and not worry about ruining the dammm field

Soccer...that has been the reason in the past. Now however there is a hybrid synthetic plug / natural turf used by many soccer programs and stadiums but I am not sure of the durability factor. One product is called GrassMaster but I know there are others. Either way the turf currently at Soldier Field is horrible.
