Is "The Pitt" an unauthorized ER reboot?

Currently watching The Pitt and I am on episode 10. I am finding it a riveting drama. I don't need a free soda to stay tuned to the end of an episode. I have never watched ER. Those of you who have seen both series, is The Pitt simply a sequel to or a rip off of ER ?

Don't believe it's related at all to ER; I think part of the novelty in The Pitt is that it is shot in real time like '24'. Can't wait for the SNL yinzer skit about it a la Mare of Eastown.

It's on my list though currently sitting behind Righteous Gemstones which is f*cking fantastic.

Seems like a money grab, and it just might be successful because of the overlap in production staff.

The Pitt is an HBO show and, as such, cannot really be compared to a sitcom. From all my friends within the field, they think it is the most accurate even if none of them are entirely accurate with one caveat. But given where you are, I can't remember if this will be a spolier or not, so I'll save it.

It's interesting; it's like a notice went out to all streaming services that med-drama shows were needed. Apple TV has "KRANK BERLIN" which is about the ER in Berlin's most famous (notorious?) hospital that is actually quite good if you can do subtitles (or speak German?).

On the other end of the spectrum, Netflix also just released some Emergency Room drama... it's called "Beat" or "Pulse" maybe?... and that is the one that is ER'esque.

not nearly enough Pittsburgh accents, no one has said y'inz or jag off in any episode. The only one who comes close is charge nurse and she sounds more generic.

Thst’s a real shame. Why not show the real Pittsburgh? The Wire worked by going deep into Baltimore.

Yea in Mare of East Town they sort of over shot and exaggerated the Philly SE PA accents but at least tried to get dialect correct Pitt does not sound particularly like Pittsburgh

. She was hot as Lydia on 21/2 Men .
My son is in Manhattan . He said very few people with strong NYC accents . Certainly none of the docs . As you know , regional accents are fading away .

And they mispronounced the name of the fish market in the Strip. Any yinzer worth his Heinz knows that Wholey's is pronounced "Wooley's" and not Hole-ee's.

That’s okay…Justified got a lot of stuff wrong about Kentucky, but it was still a great show.

and there is enough swearing including frequent F bombs that they could say "frickin jag off" without blinking an eye

I have a family member who had some involvement in the production.

My understanding through them is that the show WAS originally being developed with the idea that Noah Wylie’s character is his same one from ER, now older and more experienced — but the rights to actually do that could not be arranged. So, there’s no official link, and the character is named differently, but it’s still being written in such a fashion or spirit such that he could be the same guy, and I think they want the audience to feel free to view it with that lens if they so choose.

I really enjoyed that series, and loved seeing Kate Winslet tackle that accent. She also talked about having paid a visit to an actual Wawa during production to help get the full feel of things :)

I'm watching it and liking it, although there are some graphic scenes that I really didn't need to see.
AS for the ER controversy....well it's an Emergency room drama so yea it's going to seem very similar as it is to every other Hospital Emergency show. The format of this one is much different and so far there is less character drama and more focused on the patient and the illness. I guess the biggest factor is Noah Wylie and yea since he was John Carter in ER it seems very, very familiar.

For me it seems way less character driven than ER and more about the patient and illness. I like it. I think the reason some think it relates to ER is because of Noah Wylie.

Thought the same thing about both The Pitt and Watson.

+100. The Wire was so well done and every seasons theme was spot on. I think it was season 2 with the dock workers and the season in the School District was just spot on, also the political scene in Bmore and O'Malley's rise to fame, cough, coach carcetti.
I was living in Mt. Vernon when the final season was shooting all around. The sun outdoor smoking scenes were filmed at the sun paper which was about a block from me. All the stuff under I83 was spot on. Still think it's the best thing thats ever been done on TV.

The PITT is a pretty good show and is pretty accurate, with some dramatization. Also, FYI, the one nurse muttered “jagoff” when she broke up the fight with the women in the waiting room.

Like how you could be in Lexington in seemingly 15 minutes from Harlan.
I worked at UKMC and also Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Aeromedical sevice for your 15 min. trip ?
Some people in Harlan signed their names with an X. It was so sad. A lot of good hearted folk down in the holler though.

Where did she match ?
Year 4 at U Cincinnati started two weeks ago. Match day is in March 2026. She has started the process - getting her research and personal info organized. She’s going to try to triple board at one of the 11 systems that offer residency in pediatrics, family med and child psych. She wants to have a multiple practice.

Exactly like that. And that every business in Lexington is located on Tates Creek Road.
I lived off Nicholasville Road just past the mall on the opposite side , apartments . It was a blast . Jesus , I left Lexington 35 years ago.

watched whole series and final episode yesterday. Overall enjoyed the series. Seems they are setting up story lines for a season 2 or a more prolonged series treatment. The actress playing charge nurse puts off the most Pittsburgh energy and was spot on when she was getting ready to go home with blue jean jacket and sling purse. I worked with multiple versions of her in med school, although generally meaner.......
