Is the reported attendance realistic?

Box score reports 6,751 - 83% full.

That seems a great number for a non-conference game, even one with a local angle.

I turned the game on at 44-16, and watched about three minutes. Students looked pretty full.

I was at the game with my son. That was a very nice first half and we decided we didn't want to watch 20 minutes of garbage time. Sounds like that is the way it played out. Doubt I'll be leaving early from any games once January comes around.

The game was over at halftime, and we played like it. Gotta be hard to keep focus and intensity when that's the case, and we didn't. Great first half though.

Part of it was the combos we were running. Brown and Ash played together for at least 10 minutes of the second half. Doubt we will see that going forward except in blowouts.

And also I believe that, after the flagrant on Benson, Collins told them to just pull the ball out once we broke the press, (we passed on several layups we could have had) since we didn't need another injury in a chippy game.

I agree that Collins told them to take the air out of the ball once we got the ball across. I was wondering why he did so, and your theory makes sense. I think you only learn bad habits in that situation - if you've got the second string in, I want them to keep running the offense - get some game experience out of running it. Stalling until there are 10 seconds left gets you nothing.

But yes, it had gotten very chippy out there, and perhaps Collins preferred ugly to injury. That said, it was a foul festival for us from the opening moments of the second half. We clearly preferred to foul instead of playing defense. I didn't see any motivation to play defense in the second half.

To get back to the original question of the thread, I wouldn't be surprised if 6700 seats were sold. The upper levels were pretty full.

How many were actually in attendance? That's another story. I'm sorry to say this again but purple seat attendance was laughable for a Saturday night - 60% at most.

Student attendance wasn't stunning either, so I'd guess around 5000+.

Attendance figures also include literally every human in the building. So the fewest you could possibly have is 14, the players, officials, and score keeper. But you can really report whatever you want. I know a former msu sid who reported the same number before every game he was there.

Well, maybe that's because they sold out every game....;)

I think NU reports tickets sold, not butts on the bleachers.

Counterexample: The attendance figure of the White Sox-at-Orioles game on 4/29/15 was 0. The players and managers were there.
