Is there a fanbase worse than ours

I may get in trouble for this, but I think it is a fair question. Is there a fanbase that eats its own worse than UK football? We won, and we are still fighting. Why can't we drink a beer together, give each other high fives and wait for the next game? It has been this way forever. I guess it is because the internet gives everyone a voice to complain, but I don't think I've ever seen a more negative fanbase when we were sitting 3-3.

It's not that the fanbase is so bad, it's that this board is full of the most negative, spiteful, trolling, extremist, irrational fans we have. That old saying "it's only that 5% of fans that are bad and make us all look bad", well that 5% of fans make up 90% of this board. There are a ton of great fans on here. But the idiots are the ones who are dumb enough to make the stupid threads and call the coaches show and make fools of themselves.

The OP is correct. I am of the opinion that these are UL fans doing their typical UK hate disguise as members of the BBN or simply put, football novices thinking you can find good football players to play 2 deep at every position with a few recruiting classes. When I hear that Tennessee did it with just a coaching change it proves the point.

Their is a reason UK wins the SEC in basketball almost every year. The SEC is a football conference plain and simple. The other basketball teams in the SEC could care less about winning the SEC or going to the Final Four.

There are fan bases much worse than the few illicit and spatially irresponsible thoughts of less than 1% of this board. While 99% of the fan base backs our AD and athletic programs, the dissidents continue to gain the most attention. Only in Kentucky.

I'll say it again....UK may run the table.
Deal with it trolls.
Run the table may be extreme. But we have seen serious improvement over the last 3 games and have a shot at every game from here out. Albeit a veryyyy long shot against UT and UofL.

No shot against UT or UL IMO. I agree with the other games, should all be competitive one way or the other.

There's a group that would be better off being Louisville fans , it would also be better for UK and this board if that happened . Their dream coach is at UL and they could enjoy a softer conference schedule . It would literally solve a lot of problems for everybody involved .

I agree. I've just seen a lot of crazy things happen in sports so I'll never say 0 **** at all. With the exception of the Bama game. That was a 00000.1% chance at best.

If you think 99% of our fans back our coach and AD, I assume you are not talking about the people on this board, which is probably only a small percentage of our actual fans.

I notice alot of these fellas all pleased about our close wins vs the worst 2 SEC teams, in year 4. Are the same ones with bball related usernames or bball first people. Yes you can like both. But stop telling us football first guys how happy we should be about this mediocre (at best) football play. We love football and want to be good at it. Not just get a bowl every few years. We realize Stoops isnt in line to give us that.

You find it weird and ridiculous that people arent happy with this sad football play. This team has not been playing good ball. They have been playing good enough ball against bad opponents. But you same people are talking about a bowl, and happy because we won vs Vandy. None of you can get into your head the reasoning behind us being unhappy. We are in YEAR 4 and this is all we get. Same ole same ole. And yet you all still get happy.

In the college football world YOU ALL are the laughing stocks, not us wanting change. You all can get on here telling us how negative we are in these threads but I dont really care. Im not going to be pleased with barely beating bad teams ans losing to a pretty bad CUSA team. "Trying hard" doesnt give me a hard on in year 4 like some of you. Sorry. Any other program would be unhappy as well. Get over it. We havent proven anything besidws that we are beating teams Stoops beat 2 years ago.

You can say how we should be happy how good this team is doing compared to how bad they started, but no, it shouldnt have started that badly in year 4 of an SEC coach's tenure. Losing to a CUSA team then getting destroyed. But im supposed to be happy Stoops was able to take advantage of 2 down SEC teams? Hilarious.

You would be wrong about 99% backing MB. Been awhile since you have been in Lex.

Which ever team you are a fan of is. You introduced yourself to Catsillustated by telling us how your daughters volley ball teams board was better than Catsillustrated. Why don't you just leave if we're so bad?

Yes. A fan base that continues to employ a head coach that hired prostitutes as entertainment for recruits in a dorm named after his deceased brother in law.
Yes. A fan base that continues to defend an athletic program that created a fake degree program in order to keep athletes eligible and never admit to doing anything wrong.
They are both worse.

BBB Lazy, have you ever heard of LSU? They just fired a coach who had won a National Championship. Have you ever heard of Alabama? They fired Bill Curry, even though he was doing a good job, but was a Grad of Georgia Tech and could not beat Auburn. Did you ever hear of South Carolina? They forced Steve Spurrier out? He was basically forced out by the fans around mid season.
Uk fans have put up with bad coaches much longer then most programs. Now that a lot of money has been put into the program, were expecting a much better job from the coach.
Also, we look at the program 90 miles West of Lexington, and wonder if they can build a winner, why can't we?
My question to you is, "WHY CAN'T WE."

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

I respectfully disagree. Year four at Ky for a first time head coach should not have an expectation for blowing out a struggling SEC football team. As far as the Southern Miss game, get over it already. It's football... Just ask Michigan or Tennessee who should have gotten beaten by a much weaker opponent in App State. We all knew Sourhern Miss was a dangerous game any way. Look, you have to like what is happening with this young Defense. With Stoops at the helm and a big name DC... The sky is the limit. And you gotta feel good about what Gran and Hinshaw can do with the O. Do you REALLY see no reason for optimism.

If you judge any fan base by message boards you are going to have a very skewed viewpoint of what that fan base actually looks like. Some of the most dedicated UK fans belong to this message board, but at the same time there are people on here who want to be controversial for the sake of controversy. People aren't passionate about things they don't care about. I would argue that there are few fan bases that are as good as the BBN. We will travel anywhere to support our team and we will blow up message boards to talk about a football program that has been mostly disappointing for the entirety of our lives. So in my opinion I think the fan base is a pretty damn good one

I am convinced people like you are Louisville fans in disguise. Only a lousiville fan would accept such terrible decisions by an AD and head coach. Only a lousiville fan would prefer our position. A real uk fan that wants the best of this program wouldn't settle for what we're getting, 4 or 5 wins in year 4.

As for the post, if there's another SEC football fan base that's endured what we have, I'll listen. Maybe commonwealth and the fans should start boycotting the games all together until Mitch spends the recourses and makes this program compete. Let's see what you think then

I have no idea who some of these fans are, but I have UK alumni family and friends. I golf regularly with 2 former players from 2005-2008. I attend games of both sports, with a collection of around 26 of us.

I have never met a UK fan in person who likes Mitch Barnhart. I've spoken to guys I won't name who are connected through radio and K fund ( former player), they don't like Barnhart.

The only place I can't find people that like Barnhart are on catsillustrated.

Makes you wonder if it's not lousiville fans in disguise that love it the most.

Oh, and most of the time they attach The Bell witch to his same. Sandy and her minions are always busy it appears.

Just because we beat the worst team in the SEC. Doesn't mean we're good. Especially since we beat them by the skin of our teeth at home and we were a dropped wide open touchdown pass from likely losing. This team still has issues. We likely won't win 3 more games. Just because we beat vandy doesn't mean all of our teams/programs problems are fixed. But I guess since the fans recognize that it makes our fanbase terrible.

I dont give a **** if we win by 1 pt winning sec games is an accomplishment. This team is battling there asses off to make a bowl game. We have some really good players on this team to be excited about. Change is not the answer in football. When i saw jokers last team getting beat by 50 points to bad teams i was very realistic about how far he set the program back. The teams in this league are established programs with perennial top 20 classes why anybody cant see the future is bright is beyond me. Are we a great team no but we are a young and very physical team with some budding stars that are freshman and sophomores. I am excited and think we make a bowl with modest improvement at qb. If you dont want to support Stoops thats on you but this team deserves some credit for getting better and fighting to win some games.

It is hard to know whether the negativity shown here is representative of the overall fan base. Posters here comprise a small sample size.

What I see among my friends and others is more apathy, rather than negativity....simply a waning of interest with a genesis in Brooks' departure.

Our fanbase is no different than any other fanbase. Fans are sports programs rant and rave every day all of the country whether their team wins or loses. If they didn't, there would be no message boards, no breakroom discussions, etc. People have always talked about the relative progress of their respective team, win or lose. UK football fans expect to beat Vanderbilt and usually by a lot of points. On Saturday, we had to struggle to beat them by 7 points. We were fortunate the Vandy tight end dropped the tieing touchdown pass in the endzone or we might have wound up losing in overtime.

UK fans have suffered losing football for decades despite continuous increases in ticket prices, parking passes, K fund contributions and the like. We are no more improved now than when UK played at Stoll Field. Fans get frustrated at the lack of progress while 80 miles down the road Louisville is doing some great things in their football program. When fans get frustrated, they rant on message boards. It's to be expected and we are no different than any other human beings who are fans of athletic teams

All fan bases will look fickle and dumb if there's a big enough following and a platform to display it, like this message board.
