Rock bottom is when you know a team like Minnesota will beat you every year. Iowa is a long way from rock bottom. They are at what should be allowable rock bottom for this program.

We are not there yet...but after NCAAs when we are eliminated from contention after day 1...we will be closer.

Just remember...."we like our guys, we like our guys...that's all I'm gonna say."

Is this the Iowa message board? Sorry, I’m confused by all the rationalization of failure and program decline.

This is Gable, excuses are for wusses, Carver Hawkeye Arena, win you live lose you die.

Sad

I really wish it were. Then we'd at least know it can only get better. But just wait until next year. We'll be lucky to place in the top half of the conference next year.

Rock bottom no but it’s a sure fire quick trip down there at this pace. Going to lose a few more duals, big10s will be disappointing, ncaas will be even worse. Then there’s ext year that just be a whole new low if nothing changed.

Yeah idk. I still think this team will be fighting with ISU for 4th place. Next year could be ☠️

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the low point of Iowa wrestling (since 1970 at least).

February 3rd 2006, Iowa went into East Lansing fighting to save a season and ended up losing the head coach and heavyweight to suspensions stemming from Zelesky rushing the mat and contacting the ref to call a fall when it was OBVIOUSLY there and Mocco was suspended for field goal kicking the MSU heavyweight.

The team is nowhere near that level…

They’re not going to finish top 10 this year. This is the year the bottom falls out. Hopefully it’s enough to spark some change.
This is too far. They'll definitely finish top 10. That said...next year looks rough.

Maybe, but the bottom can fall out for this team very quickly at NCAAs, especially with Ferrari banged up.

How surprised are we if this happens?

125 - Peterson r12 - 2 pts
133 - Ayala 7th - 7 pts
141 - Bailey 1-2 - 1 pt
149 - Block 2-2 - 2 pts
157 - Williams 2-2 - 2 pts
165 - Caliendo 4th - 15 pts
174 - Kennedy r12 - 3 pts
184 - Ferrari (hurt)/Arnold r12 - 2 pts
197 - Arnold/? 0-2 - 0 pts
285 - Kueter 6th - 9 pts
Total - 44 pts

That would have put them in 11th last year. The only wrestler on the team I feel 100% confident is placing is Caliendo. 184 is brutal. If Ferrari is 75%, he'll have a tough time placing, especially with his style.

It’s nice to see someone post some realistic placements for march. Way too many lackluster moments this year. It’d be different if the tnt past showed a lot peaking in march and not floundering

I think the average fan greatly underestimates how little non-AAs score at the tournament. The typical r12 finisher scores 2-3 points. Most of the team is in that range or below.

I agree, unfortunately guys expect scoring machines from these hawks at the tourney and that’s just not happening.

The program is down this year, but not this bad.
