Is this the GW - LA era?

Not to go too far back, or too much in the weeds...

but we had the:

JC/Flyer era -
JC/MC era -
PC/MC era -
WWS/MS era -


... I think we are now witnessing the GW LA era...

Montini fits in there somewhere...as well as a few other stand alone teams, but very elementry, is there where we are?

A lot premature to talk about an LA/GW era, relative to the other eras you mentioned, before both schools bring home multiple titles. If that were to happen, then I think you could start talking in those terms.

First time poster here...

I agree with Ramblin. LA needs to win a title or two before being considered.

Holecek reaching is 100th win last week, just four games into his tenth season would suggest that LA is doing everything right, except win the big one.

Montini's dominance has been impressive.

Montini has taken the mantle of Driscoll whi would have been the solid #3 of the cusp of the PC/MC and Wws/MS era. Not bad since the Celtics were the solid #3 of the previous MC JC era.

LA from 90-93 was elite. Obviously winning 6A in '93 and runner up '92. I personally thought their '90 team with Patton was the best in 6A that year-lost in semi. They are back at that level again as a program since '09. Harder for LA always being highest class. Pretty sure they win it this year or next year though.

I certainly lack the historical depth for this discussion but Hetlett could pass 100 victories at GW in this, his 9th season. He has 92 now and would get there if GW hits 12 wins in '15. Then consider the team he inherited went 1-8 the year before his arrival and had exactly one playoff victory in the 15 years prior.

I will move away from this debate, but glad we found GW when we relo'd from Phuckin Philly in '10

Shameless plug for MC but in addition to their rich and illustrious history, in the what have you done for me lately department: Last 10 seasons with the multiplier have 5 title game appearances (2 titles 3 runner ups) and 3 semi appearances.

Yes, I would agree that PC and Montini would have an 'era' as well.

Dean- 90'-93' was definitely a great run! 93' had great football players up and down the roster and that's how we survived the injuries. 91' was probably the biggest and most talented team LA has ever had. The future looks bright right now with the lower levels all having more success than the current seniors. They were 2-7 as frosh. But until there are trophies, can't say LA is at the top of an era.

I would agree that Montini can make the strongest argument for the last 10 years being their era. However, pointing out that they have 5 titles and 7 appearances in the title game in the last 10 years is not going to help your sandbagging going forward.

JC-Please define your eras.
Provi from 95-03 is clearly an era. 6 championships and 2 seconds.

WWS had a great run recently but I don't think it compares the run they had in the 90's. From 90-98 they produced 4 state titles and 2 runner up trophies which is even more impressive when you consider there were only 6 classes.

I think you are correct, which is why i posed a question rather than a declaration.

That said, I think as far as tandems go, these two teams demonstrated being the best teams in state, over great lengths of time, spanning several years now.

True that Montini has produced several titles and several 2nd place teams...but I'm not sure any of them...strike that...maybe one of them..produced what we would have recognized as being the best team in state...unfortunately, because of the IHSA, we did not get to see these teams perform in a six class system where they would have competed in 5a. Bronco, zero disrespect intended...same could be said for SHG.

in looking at this most recent era...i'm not sure we have a team constantly winning titles...check that...MC has been to the show quite a bit lately...but something feels qualitatively different about the present standing and showing of LA and GW...am I wrong.

Yep...titles go a long way, but if different teams win titles every year, and LA and GW constantly go deep...more constantly than others...does that define this era?

Will admit, Bronco/SHG winning titles this season in 6a..or MC winning this season in 7/8...will go along way in tuning my thoughts on GW and LA moot...
