Is this the worst SB halftime performance of all time?

However he spells his name he sucks. Don't even mention his name in a post with Tom Petty in it. Its insulting. Petty had worldwide fame, appeal and talent. Springstein was a product of the metro NY NJ media hype. Outside the NE corridor no one really cared enough about his work to pay any attention. He can't sing. He just sucks. Worst and least deserving of the superbowl without question.

Well, this is ridiculous.

As for Maroon 5 - they have good songs and would have just been better off doing 3-4 of them instead of a medley with 7 or 8 songs, two rappers, Adam Levine guitar solos, drum line, gospel choir, etc...The kitchen sink approach does not work in the super bowls.

LOL...someone is rather clueless about worldwide appeal. You should probably stop posting about this.

I don't think so. TP is much more amazing than Springstein. Deserving of his spot in the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with some of musics actual alltime greats. The reason Springstein isnt in a supergroup? Seriously? He couldnt even get invited into one with Adam Levine.

Maroon 5 is awful. Adam Levine is even worse. Much like Coldpay and Chris Martin....overrated media pop darlings who have a musical style that is severely limited.

The halftime performance was an unmitigated disaster, but Songs About Jane is a fantastic album, along with some subsequent hits.

That is a reasonable argument. They certainly did try to throw in the kitchen sink to cover for other shortcomings. I am no M5 fan at all. The people prepared to trash them are politically motivated because of the Kapernick controversy. When they stayed apolitical then M5 was going to feel the wrath.

There will never be a "Queen@ Live Aid" style home run where everyone agrees that they had just witnessed the best ever. But to say that M5 didn't do a workmanlike job this year...not great but good...its just trolling them because of politics.

Why do you believe that? I am really curious. Kaepernick fan?

Yep, I'm a huge lib.

Also, the vocals were terrible, the stripping and gyrating was awkward and there were random rap snippets dropped in the mix for good measure. I always figured there music would be tough to translate into a live performance, and last night's performance had me wondering if they actually tour because it was so bad.

I have daughters. Which means I have to listen to pop music from time to time. M5 is one of the pop bands that I can stomach some of their stuff. Thought they sounded decent last night. Not great but better than I thought they would be live.

But the overall halftime show wasn't that good.

For starters...i understand a bleep here or there I guess. But if a performer is going to have to be bleeped out several times throughout their song...then why bother picking that song...or booking them in the first place. I don't care how good they are it just doesn't work. It's like watching Scarface on TNT. Why bother?

Game suxed
Commericals suxed
Halftime show suxed
Very anti-climatic end to such a promising season.

There will never be another Prince performance...ever. That performance was so over the top awesome it has ruined so many others over the years. No cameo performances by anyone else, in a rainstorm, it was just perfect.

Not a big fan of singers who make a career out of singing in falsetto (like someone put a clamp on their nuts). Adam Levine is just the latest example of this crappy vocal style (think Barry Gibb or Frankie Valli). That being said M5's performance wasn't that bad if you like their music (which I don't). However, that rapper was a complete ***-clown. He sucked.

Overall Grade: +D

I'm glad they let Big Boi say "ATL, HOE!". I'm 100% behind the use of the "hoe" word, and glad to see it is acceptable in today's PC world.

Surely one thing we can all agree on is that Sproingsteen sucked at pitching...

Speedball. SMDH.

He will make you look like a fool boy. I saw him the other night at a roadside bar. I was walking in, he was walking out.

Prince fan or not, i think it is safe to say, he was the best SB performance ever. I mean playing Purple Rain while the rain fell was just magical. Loved it. Should just put it up on the Jumbotron and play at ever superbowl.

i read something last week that when Michael Jackson was performing in 93, he had been told that he would be cut off the live feed if his show went on more than 10 minutes. He subsequently stood on the stage motionless and silent for nearly two full minutes and then started performing. The show sucked, but being an *** about the time constraint puts him at #2 behind Prince, for me.

This performance was one of the better ones if for no other reason than eye candy.

I suggest going to Youtube and finding the video with the backstory on Prince's performance. I don't feel like looking it up right now.

We all know the song, dumbass, there's no need to post the lyrics.

In addition to staying out of GYERO, how about staying TF out of the Paddock in general, mkay? Thanks so much.

Yea, has nothing to do with their Kidz Bop music.

Unfortunately, the superbowl is going to be the repository of "KidzBop" music. I'd love for them to have Metallica or QOTSA or ELO or Shinedown or several others whose music I like...but instead the Superbowl is going to have Lady Gaga or Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars who has some pop level wider name recognition. Its not the Superbowls fault that the music industry is a train wreck. My generation didnt eff it up. The current ones did.

"Music" today is about how you look....not what you can actually do. Adam Levine is a mix of that sadly. I will give him credit for actually being able to play guitar. He is famous enough. The band should be called "Adam Levine."

I agree, as the music video era rose, the quality of the music dropped. I doubt that these unattractive musicians could get a music deal today much less sell millions of albums?

I think it's more than that. Social media and the saturation of celebrity media in general seems to dictate what is cool, and it limits the music that kids get exposed to unless they are willing to search out other music on their own. Of course, that's been going on forever, i.e. Beatle-mania.

Just look at a Billboard top 10 chart from the 80s and early 90s. There's bubblegum pop, rock, 'metal' (radio-appropriate), adult contemporary, R&B, rap, country, etc. all mixed in. Kids have to actively look for music that doesn't fit the Urban-pop genre (not that there's anything wrong with that genre).

Just a thought.

It was fine. They have some decent tunes. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but safe. Didn’t know he could play. Singing live gets some respect from me.

Travis Scott wasn’t for anyone on this board. Go back to guarding your lawn.

Big Boi was fine as well. He wasn’t that into it.

The Spongebob part was anti-climactic. Should’ve played Winner Takes All.
I had no idea who the f Travis Scott was. I was disappointed Andre 3000 didn’t make a cameo appearance. Nobody wanted to be considered a scab. They should of just used holograms of Tupac and biggie. It would of been a more entertaining show

I was sad he couldn’t say midgets in “trunk rattlin like two midgets in the back seat rasslin”

Maroon 5 is ****** dad rock. I want a Slayer halftime show but would settle for Metallica - but they’d probably only play black album songs because mainstream appeal.

It was the middle aged wifes that he did it for and if the Superbowl party I was at was any indication it seemed to work.

I like hip hop. Travis Scott sounded absolutely god awful. Spade is a spade
