If you haven't heard of Denarii Mickels, this is a name to watch over the next 4 years in Iowa HS wrestling. ISU helped bring him to Ames High from Pennsylvania. Just a freshman and is already ranked 3rd at 195. This kid is a beast. He's related to Paniro Johnson.

I'm hearing that ISU is also "bringing in" a stud HW from California to Ames HS, Daniel Herrera Jr. A state champ and good football player.

I live in ames (don't judge me) & have watched him, Hilson & Hall quite a bit this year. I was shocked how easily Ross beat Mickels yesterday & the 126 championship was a good one with Seaton beating Hinson

Denarii looked distracted and slow the first two periods. I think he was affected by having (his relative) Paniro Johnson and Carr in the first row watching/coaching his match. Ross got double leg after double leg...Denarii looked slow and flat-footed. Finally, in the 3rd he wrestled with some energy and quickness, but by then it was too late.

I didn't see Hinson's final match. The kid that beat him must be legit because Jabari is a state title contender. Kyler Hall had a great day, his field was pretty good, although Hagan from Dowling was out.

Denari had no answer for Ross & just looked outmatched. I've heard from a few people here in ames that as good as he is he has a very short fuse & doesn't wrestle smart when he's angry
