Penn State football: It might be time to move on from James Franklin
Penn State football lost yet another big game under James Franklin which seems like the norm these days. Is it time to move on?
Gosh that would be great, but I don't see him walking away from this contract regardless. These are the types of articles, social media presence, and in-Stadium boos and cursing that will make things very uncomfortable for Franklin. I don’t think Penn State will fire Franklin anytime soon due to the cost but Franklin may resign over the next couple of seasons because things are so uncomfortable/intolerable for him and his family. No matter how greedy he may be, he’s not going to do a job in an environment where he is not welcome or wanted.
Paterno was 14-24 against them. Franklin has had to deal with Sandusky and the aftermath having to rebuild a program. Considering Paterno's record was certainly nothing special, in fact, poor, I think Franklin needs another year.![]()

Hard to predict what a person does in a hostile environment, but if he resigns, he's done as a head coach. I'd say probably not. These are the types of articles, social media presence, and in-Stadium boos and cursing that will make things very uncomfortable for Franklin. Sandusky is no longer an excuse. Hasn’t been for awhile. Joe won 2 national championships and played for 4 in a 9 year period. A lot of Joe’s record against OSU and UM came in the twilight of his career. Even so, it’s better than 4-16. And Joe‘s compensation and demands weren’t even close.Paterno was 14-24 against them.
