Interesting how different regions of the country refer to soft drinks. Where I was raised everything was coke. It could be Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper or Nehi Peach but we call it coke.

When I was in school in Kentucky it was "pop". I lived a short time in Eastern North Carolina and they called all soft drinks dope. Here is an interesting article as to why and a map of the U.S. showing what regions call the drink.

Always been coke to me. If someone asked what I wanted, I said, any kind of coke.

I've always referred to any soft drink as a coke.

And I have a brain. That works.
No, you haven’t. If you’ve wanted something besides a Coke (or Pepsi, I’ll give you that) you asked for it by name.

Coke is more a general term to me but I prefer most coke products over Pepsi products anyway

Edit: I’ve never once referred to them as a “soda”or a “pop”. My mother who is originally from the Detroit area occasionally slips out a “pop”

Nobody with a brain actually calls a Sprite, a Dr. Pepper, or a Pepsi a Coke. That’s ridiculous and makes the south look stupid.

‘Can I have a Coke?”
“Sure.”
“No, sweetie. I wanted one of them clear cokes with lemon lime”

GTFOH
If I want a Coke, or any other drink, that's what I ask for. Also, if it's not a Kleenex then I call it a tissue.

Coke/Pepsi are interchangeable to me. They do not refer to sprite, Mountain Dew or others.

RC Cola was on the same tier as Chek or Big K.

For me it's always been Coke for Coke, Sprite for Sprite, Mt. Dew for Mt. Dew, Big Red for Big Red, etc. I ask for Coke and if they have Pepsi products (can't stand Pepsi) I switch to a Sierra Mist or Mist Twist (whatever they call it now). Only Pepsi product I can stand. Most of Pepsi's products taste like cheap knockoffs of Coke brands. Mt. Dew is their only original brand that is probably better than the competitors, but I'm not a fan of it.

I say soda. When I'm feeling cute, I say Soe-dah like a yankee. Calling everything a Coke has some serious redneck connotations for me.

I also avoid use of the the word "y'all" for much of the same reasons.

It was always “soft drink” when I was growing up. (Some will say I’ve never grown up)

Let me explain how it works. You get a "pop" out of your fridge, brand doesn't matter. You're out in a country store, you yell at your friend, "hey, you want a pop?" He gets what you pick out unless he specifies a specific brand.

If you're at Texas Roadhouse and want a Mt Dew, that's what you order, not Coke, unless you want Coke.
