Last year, seven P4 head coaching jobs changed hands. None due to in-season terminations, and only 3 or 4 (depending on how you want to count) due to coaches being fired:
1) Mack Brown was fired at end of season by UNC
2) WVU fired their coach - Brown - at end of season
3) Purdue fired their coach at end of season
4) Stanford fired their coach in March, well after the season ended, due to some "personnel/behavior" issues
5) Gus Malzahn resigned at end of season from UCF, to take OC job at FSU
6) Wake Forest coach Clawson resigned after season, cited the "F'ed up" new world of CFB (NIL, etc)
7) Washington State coach left to take the job at Wake Forest... so a 2-1 change scenario
This year?
Already SIX power 4 coaches terminated - before mid-season! We haven't even gotten close to normal "coach termination season".
Certainly more on the way before the holidays..... not to mention each opening means a decent chance that a new coach will be poached from another power 4 team (like the WSU coach moving to WF last year)- creating a cascade of changes.
It is going to be CRAZY out there.
