LOL. A freshman who hadn't proved anything, showed an outsized sense of entitlement, a coward's fear of competition, and quit on the program at his earliest opportunity.

What a giant loss! Boy, I hope we can find another just like him!
My concern is will it affect us with recruiting High School players.

If he’s that good the minutes would’ve taken care of itself. I’m not upset by this. If you don’t want to play here leave. He did and we will be fine. I trust in Pope to find the right guys for his team.
This is exactly how I look at it. If a guy is really confident in his ability, he won’t be scared off by competition. The kind of player that’s going to transfer if he thinks he won’t get enough minutes is not the kind of player you’re going to find on a championship roster.

It was the money and nothing else
That's what I suspect as well.... somebody on here said he got offered double our bag..... I don't know if that's true

However.... his Dad has plead guilty to embezzling $325K form a non profit ..... he has to make restitution and is going to be sentenced to Federal prison this summer.... family gonna need some money

Pope can’t guarantee playing time to a 4 star freshman. Popes job and responsibility is to win at Kentucky. He has millions of insanely rabid fans that will jump down his neck, way worse than anyone in Lewis camp. Way too big a risk, and Lewis camp sounded like they had no confidence he could beat out the ONE other pure PG we brought in.
I honestly believe some of the panic on this board is an act. We had 2 four stars riding pine this season, until injuries created playing time. And most of these panicking Pete's had nothing good to say about them when they did play.

There are a lot of moving parts here. Playing time and money are always the default primary reasons for a move and I suspect this is the case with Lewis. However, he does have this extra crap on his plate with his father. He is a kid and those issues have to be bothering him. There is probably more to the story than we know.

Wow I did not know that about his dad. Assuming that is accurate then thank God he isn't coming here....that sounds like guaranteed season long drama.

It's 100% this.

Acaden and his family aren't going to say "We need more money cuz dad's going to jail." But that's the issue.

Do you see my post as hating on them? FR?
I don't think we should "hate on" any of these kids. However my view has changed with the times. These guys are making serious bread. It is not unrealistic to raise expectations. I didn't have a problem with Barnes telling Lanier he needed to do what he was paid to do. It's a different time.

While I think Lewis is making a mistake and he would have received good minutes next year, he seemed like a good kid and I wish him the best (just no NCs - we still want those). He will have to compete at any top level program. If he does not, he is unlikely to reach his potential.

BS BS BS BS
Sorry but this total BS.
If you are a top flight player who has ambitions on playing in the NBA, you better show bigger balls then this when it comes to earning playing time.

Do these kids not think the minute they sign an NBA contract that team has one eye looking to improve at your position or use you as trade bait to get someone else they want? The NBA is a business; they do not care about butthurt feelings. Making money is what they want and the more they win the more they make.

As bad as this sucks today, if this kid is scared of earning playing time now, even before he has a chance to showcase himself, it would have surfaced later during the season and maybe been a team distraction.

I am just sink and tired of players being treated like they are owed something whether it be playing time or money. In real life you get what you earn.

To the poster sho mentioned SGA coming in. as a 4 star; you are right but he came and earned his way to the NBA, not whining about having to earn it.

I had a mom come to me once during one of my practices asking me why I have not been to see her 8th grade daughter play; said all the other coaches have been to her games promising playing time. I told the lady to take her daughter and leave. I asked her to look at the girls in line for batting practice and go tell them her story. I explained to her some of them were juniors and have not started a varsity game yet, awaiting for their opportunity and three of them have college offers already! I told her it was a slap in these kids facing of her to come into my practice with this crap.
This lady went to my AD and complained. He told her the same thing.

I am not one to put up with this cry baby crap. You go to work, work harder today than yesterday and win your spot. My kids knew if they were the starter today, they had to earn it all over tomorrow.
Competition breeds success.
For the Lewis kid, "don't let the door hit you on your way out".

Him and his camp must think he’s league ready after one season. Bold take for a four star but we’ll see how it shakes it out.
Him and his camp must be soft, season hasn’t even started nor has practice and he’s already crying about PT. I hope he gets benched out of pure principle at his next stop. I bet he’s just like his daddy, wants the easy life and is greedy.

So....

Jai Lucas recruits Boozer twins to Duke.

Jai Lucas leaves for Miami, the hometown of the Boozer twins and the runner-up in their recruitment.

Yesterday, Jai Lucas hires the HS coach of the Boozer twins to be an assistant on his staff.

Cayden Boozer was slated to be Duke's starting PG next year.

Duke is suddenly the favorite for Nate Ament, a 5-star PF, when they already have a 5-star (and higher-rated) PF in Cameron Boozer expecting to start.

Is there a world where Duke knows the Boozer's are going to bolt to Miami, and started back-channeling to Acaden about filling that spot in Durham and promising him a starting spot?

I'm not sure, but it's all very odd.

I seriously doubt Carlos would do that to his Alma mater but who knows these days, I wouldn’t be shocked.

Don't think anyone is "bad" or needs to be blasted here. What's happening in CBB is kind of a throwback to the days we grew up with which was build with experience--sprinkle in the elite FR and develop your program as much as possible. In the Summer/Fall Kentucky was all in on getting Caleb Wilson (Lewis's close friend) to round out a big time 4 man class. Wilson looked assured to be coming in the staff's eyes and then didn't. So HS recruiting wise-there's one change.

More importantly the change was Pope/Staff going through a year in the SEC and seeing what works/will need to be upgraded roster/system wise. They did that--which creates depth and pushes younger players down the rotation as they enter college. Now with Lowe/Chandler/Johnson-you have 3 guys who can play PG. You've got a guy like Perry who has done it as well. Throw in the lineup of wings already signed on/being targeted (Wilkerson) and do the math if you are a guy like Lewis.

Lewis is facing a tough personal situation with his Dad and can't speak for others but I've never had that pressure on me and in this situation I'd want to be assured I'd get a chance to play so I can provide help to my family and have the opportunity to play out my fate rather than gamble and wait and who knows what happens? Big fan of his game/wish him best in his career and hope all works out for his family.
If he needs to provide for his family the pressure will still be there, I bet the money he would have made here would have been plenty enough, I think it’s BS personally and if he has such big time game and aspirations he shouldn’t be afraid of anyone for PT.

No doubt. And **** like this would make me a hard pass if I was a GM at the next level as well. Kid might be an all star but part of being an all star is producing. As you point out he has yet to do that at a level that matters.

Arkansas has Acuff and Wagner so that's a no.
Maryland makes sense if Buzz wasn't the coach.
Seems to soft to play for Buzz.
I could see Virginia or Georgetown.

What does Lewis expect? For us to play 5 guys for the full 40 minutes? He would have gotten a lot of minutes regardless of whether he was starting or a reserve. Hes going to end up getting rushed into playing and he will not produce early on. That will hurt his confidence and draft stock. He’s the number 7 PG in this class per espn. Slow down big guy, don’t get in over your head.

Acaden Lewis sounds like a kid with one and done aspirations. I'm honestly glad he decided to go elsewhere if that is his goal. If I am only going to have a PG for one season, I would much rather that be a proven veteran PG from the portal rather than some unproven and inexperienced freshman.

These incoming high school kids need to understand the game has changed. They are no longer the main draw like they once were. Now much greater emphasis is placed on getting veterans from the portal. All but the most elite of the elite high school graduates are going to be looked upon as back-ups when they come to college during their freshman year. If they want immediate playing time, their best bet would be to commit to mid-major programs that are getting their starters plucked by high majors in the portal.

Big brain thoughts. Sounds plausible

If that happens then I understand it. Start at Duke or be 2.5string at UK. 10-15min at UK or 25min at Duke

Why trash a guy who might be a portal target we want next year. We are living in a different world. We need every advantage. You don’t have to love the guy for leaving, but let’s not burn bridges.

If it's looked at as a financial decision then Lewis made a smart decision because there is a good chance he'd have averaged 12 mpg or less and that doesn't get you big NIL the next year. I also don't see how his leaving hurts Kentucky so I just can't hate on the guy for looking out for his own best interests.

I made this point in another thread. Dad needs 300+k restitution after sentencing in June and revisited the well.
Pope said no. Someone else will say yes.

I figured Johnson was a 2/3 so really you have Lowe at the 1 whoever else plays the spot lacks the ball handling skills against SEC competition
I don’t believe Johnson will ever be a 3 . He’s more of a 1/2 . imo the 2 is the perfect fit, but he handles it well enough to be a 1 and his playmaking improved a ton this year at ote.

I hate bringing up UL but they got a the best high school point guard and still brought in two top guard transfers so it can be done. The backup guards last season are not SEC caliber and got thrown to the wolves because of injuries

The difference is that UL is willing to give Mikel the ball and start. He probably got starter minute guarantees.

Don’t know man , point guards are getting in short supply and the clocks ticking.
Yeah outside Lee the market is very thin now on quality guards, there are some SG left but not PG’s. Wish he would have pulled this stunt when Dent, Thomas, etc.. were still uncommitted. Wilkerson feels like a must get now that we are supposedly out with Pierre.
