It was the recruiting. Plain and simple

These poor kids just aren't good enough to play here. Everyone Pope went after said no. All these guys were down several spots on our wishlist. So we really shouldn't be surprised by what we are seeing.

The real question is why did they all turn us down? We have more money than anyone else and the guys we wanted still said no thanks. This is the part that I can't understand. This makes NO SENSE.

Hell everyone was wrong. The national media, vegas, the fans, everyone.
The only one that really matters is the coach, and Pope hyped this team to no end throughout the summer. That tells me he may not be a good at evaluating talent after all. Not surprising, given that he's only one two tournament games in his entire crappy career.

I think a few of them thought he'd favor Kentucky boys and that scared them off.

This board hyped the team to no end. As soon as something positive is said about a player in practice, people in this board take it and embellish it and start making that player the next all American. Happens all the time here. I don’t know what’s going on but many fans on here only have yourselves to blame because you expect too much without knowing enough.

Time to put Rondo on the staff. Immediate upgrade in recuriting, will hold guys accountable, someone players respect and will listen to as former NBA all star that has led teams to NBA championships. Someone that coaches who coached him and players who played with him said had the best basketball mind of anyone they had ever played with

I thought I was being negative when I was saying we might have a few flaws and I saw us more as a Sweet 16/Elite 8 kind of team than as a surefire championship favorite in the offseason. It turns out even that wasn’t nearly pessimistic enough. This roster might have a lot of guys who could contribute to a winning team in isolation, but it has no stars and doesn’t fit together well at all.

I bet Pope breaks out his crusty 30-year-old UK jersey and tearfully explains what it means to wear it on every recruiting visit.

I think chandler was the highest rated recruit he’d ever landed before getting here and chandler is Mormon or he probably doesn’t commit either.

I don't ever want to hear the bull **** mantra said again about how they are kids. They are paid professionals making millions and deserve every ounce of criticism they get. If you don't like it, GTFO! Can't handle it here, then you aren't going to cut in the league and have an NBA fan base riding your *** for subpar performance.

People keep saying we have more money but if other schools are willing to give a player more money than we were, said player is probably going to another school. I get the feeling that probably happened with several guys.

We also paid Oweh a lot of money to come back and be “the guy” when he’s simply not good enough to shoulder that burden. Now it looks like he’s half checked out and cashing checks, so double whammy there.

One thing I noticed was how methodically we built the roster while other teams signed portal kids with urgency. It was like we were rationing our money
