Now, who takes their place in the CSL? Does Lake Forest or Stevenson want to go?

Looks like VH and possibly Lake Forest will move to the CSL. Could be a total table turner with the MSL, CSL and NSC all rearranging.

Vernon Hills is the word, supposedly it was a done deal just needs the CSL official approval. Niles North to the Big School division to replace Waukegan

And Vernon Hills was never part of the NSC Lake anyway...I like this, as long as Lake Forest and Stevenson stay. I think it works for everybody.

I think that VH should stay in the small school NSC and LF should switch to the CSL. VH is an outlier for most of the CSL schools if you ask me. I think the Foresters are more logically placed in the 6A/7A CSL North with schools like HP, DF, GBN etc., than with some of the 8A behemoths in the NSC Lake. Yes, I am well aware that LF is pretty competitive in football despite being in the large school NSC Lake. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't be a better fit in the CSL North.

Interesting that we have a situation where VH and L'Ville from the same district will be in different conferences.

An even better solution might be for the NSC and CSL to merge. Here are possible football divisions loosely based on size and competitive level:

NT
MS
GBS
ETHS
Stevie
Warren
LZ

Waukegan
GBN
HP
DF
Z-B
LF
L'ville

MW
ME
NN
NW
Mundelein
Antioch

VH
NC
Lakes
Grant
RL
Wauconda

The smaller division NSC broke off, they're doing their own thing...and Vernon Hills wasn't invited. Football crossovers were just too painful, i guess. So this is what it is, starting 2016-17...

New unnamed conference (former NSC Prairie) 8:

Antioch
Lakes
North Chicago
Grant
Round Lake
Wauconda
Grayslake North
Grayslake Central

North Suburban Eight:

Lake Forest
Lake Zurich
Libertyville
Mundelein
Stevenson
Warren
Waukegan
Zion-Benton

It was assumed VH would hook on with the NSC but now it looks like CSL instead.

I agree, LF is a great fit with GBN, HP and Deerfield. But I think where enthusiasm is lost is driving all the way down to Maine East and Maine West to play games that frankly aren't worth playing. And we like the rivalries that we have now...been playing Libertyville, Stevenson, Warren and Z-B for decades.

I can understand why Waukegan would want to move to the NSC; easier travel and more teams they can compete with, but can anyone explain why the NSC would want Waukegan? The biggest problem I see is Waukegan doesn't offer as many sports as the other schools or as many levels. From that point of view it doesn't make sense.

I see your point but, bottom line, the NSC needs an eighth team or an even number of teams. Vernon Hills, with only 1300 or so students, really doesn't want to join. They feel like they'll get pummeled. Waukegan does want to join. This seems like a win-win for everybody.

And there's some money to be made too. When Warren, Waukegan and Zion play each other...you're going to have packed stands at these games, at least until the novelty wears off.

Not sure about the 'more teams they can compete with' comment...with all due respect to the CSL, it's not 1985 anymore. The NSC is the tougher league.

The NSC is definitely the tougher league. If anything, Waukegan's competition just got tougher in virtually every sport.

Here's a question: With Vernon Hills jumping to the CSL, do Lake Forest & Libertyville follow suit? The rumors of Lake Forest jumping have always been around. Libertyville loves to think of itself as very "north shore" as well.

If that were to happen, would Stevenson & Lake Zurich jump to the MSL?

The NSC has turned down Waukegan numerous times int he past but when those small school left to form their own conference they didnt want to get stuck with 7 schools (VH was not interested going to the new NSC under any circumstances even talked about going to a conference well out of the area if need be and who can blame them who wants to play schools that in some cases are three times their size). It was all a plan VH to the CSL and move Waukegan over. The larger issue is that LF and Libertyville were asked to join the CSL too but Libertyville supposedly balked first because of the travel. easier to get to Mundelein, LF, Warren and Stevenson than it is to New Trier, Maine South, Glenbrooks etc. LF was supposedly going to do whatever Libertyville did.

good read here on the VH website about how they are looking at all options for their school.

As far as teams they can compete with I was looking at ZB and Mundelein in football. They can't compete with anyone in CSL south. They do have two crossover games with the north though that they can win.
