The truth of the matter is that commits visit other schools all the time. Even lowly UK will have top-flight recruits come in for an unofficial visit. Most of the visits these guys are just tire-kicking excursions to score free gear (in the case of UL and UT, a different kind of scoring may be in store), get exposure to boost their star rating etc.
Put it this way: If Hudson blows off the UK summer FB camp to go to the UT camp instead, I might get worried. For now, unless you've spoken to his coach, his parents, and/or Mr Hudson himself, there's no need to go around beating your chest about flipping someone from UK. Is Knoxville that bad? Committed recruits visit UK and many other schools for the free trip, bling, booze and hostesses all the time. They usually know they aren't going to change their commitment, Please don't let Hudson waste a visit if UT doesn't have the hook-up waiting on him. General Neyland would feel tremendous shame over modern fan's vitriol and slime over a football rivalry. Once there was honor among SEC coaches and the majority of fans. Saturdays in the south meant rivalries and good times. Today it is social media and f*** you. The money is in the hundreds of millions and the showcase becomes the best TV ratings. Winning means happy days shopping at Wal Mart. Losing means life is diminished among southern fans. And, the beat and ratings go on. The best get better, the poor get worse. This is SEC football.
I'm glad I came up when I did. Even when we UT fans took digs at 'Bama (and vice versa) it wasn't personal. The fans of today take this game to heart. Even during our current down cycle, it's still just a game to me. Believe it or not, I root for Kentucky when the Cats aren't playing the Vols (I have Kentucky roots too). I can't see the present day Wal Mart fan cheering for another league opponent. And that's the pity.
I am sure not all Vol fans are like the one I ran into on my last visit to the dump they cally Neyland. That's been 25 years ago, the last time I got into a physical altercation with anyone. My 8 year old son and I were in the nosebleed section and the Vols scored. A Vol fan, college age but not in student section, grabbed my son's cap and threw it over the railing making him cry. I hit him square in the nose, blood going everywhere, he goes down and I ain't done. I get a couple more shots on him, a buddy of his grabs me from behind and security shows up. I was almost 40 and that punka$$ kid thought it would be fun to throw my son's G hat over the railing. Others, some Vol fans too, told security what happened and we got escorted out, should have been arrested probably, but don't make my son cry just to be funny. Should have threw my hat over the rail, I would have been ok with that.
I can't say the thought didn't enter my mind, but luckily I was just pissed and not out of my mind. Sending him to get his nose fixed was good enough, I would probably still be in jail if I had thrown him over.
