Bad match-up for Geneseo. They like to run and if that doesn't work they like to run. Phillips doesn't let you run so when the run doesn't work Saturday night Geneseo will be in for a long game. Phillips offense is not great so it wont be a blowout but Geneseo will have a rough go of it.
Now that was funny. This wont be as close as people think, Geneseo by 20 or more
We had this same conversation in 2013.
Good to see a Packer, I mean Geneseo guy on here. Seriously sure you hear that a lot. How many passes has Geneseo attempted this year?Could be a final 3 rematch of 2013. Its good to be back in 4A
About 60 passes! Haven't needed to. That said probably not as able to pass as the last few years. I have no doubt that Phillips is vastly improved and is quite possibly going to get the best of the Green Machine. But please explain to me the basis of the blowout suggestions. And as for the points Phillips has given up, I would guess that every team still alive would fare pretty much the same playing a 9 game CPL schedule. Again I think Phillips is quite capable of beating Geneseo but to think it won't be close really lacks evidence. Is Phillips faster. Yes. Were they faster in 2013? Yes. So please don't use last years game against montini as evidence. Phillips ain't Montini.
Fenwick 3-6
Carmel 3-6
Simeon 8-3
While I personally wasn't impressed with Simeon from watching the Phillips game recently but they were clearly the best team of Phillips schedule. The other 2 a combined 6-12. Is that tough? Again Geneseo's non con schedule could challenge anyone's as being the easiest by far but again not a lot of evidence for 3 tough non con opponents from Phillips. I maintain this game is a coin flip but I don't see what Phillips has done to be a big favorite.
This game will come down to 1 thing and only 1 thing:
Can Geneseo contain Phillips speed. If they can they have a chance. If not, the clock might run early.
Dcaudle,
I really don't think we disagree too much. From what I have seen, Phillips will definitely be the best defense that Geneseo has faced. I'm sure that it will be tough sledding. It's the above mentioned quote that I think is ridiculous. Phillips will win this game because of their defense. I can find no evidence to think a running clock is a possibility.
What is the status of Jones the Middle Linebacker?
Geneseo doesn't have the speed relative to Phillips obviously.....but they do look much faster in mud so we won't be seeing their speed version at Gately. So I guess the Maple Leafs will just have to get a lot of their slower 11 bodies maximizing body contact time on Phillips to contain or slow their speed down some.
Saw some of the game film of Phillips/Johnsburg and Johnsburg didn't look stellar by any means and looked inept at times. Perhaps that was due to Phillips.....just don't really know with any certainty. Saw film of Phillips in several other games and saw all the speed in wide open field against poor defenses and poor tackling teams. And I didn't see much good, solid or refined football techniques and fundamentals of blocking/tackling on a team basis......a lot of not-so-good form and techniques.....relying mostly on their physical/athletic attributes.
Quite the contrast and opposite to Geneseo which makes this an intriguing match-up. I suspect Geneseo will do everything they can to make this a close-quarters, crowded, colliding and intimate contest as much as possible......especially when they have the ball......and would like to keep it that way for most of the game clock. If they can, this may be a very competitive game.
