Cain's is a getting a bunch of ACL Festival acts on the week nights near the festival as usual. Also have The Head and the Heart and St. Paul & The Broken Bones that same week as Spoon and RA.

We have a pretty damn good week coming up in OKC during Sept.

Old 97s - Diamond Ballroom
The Mavericks - Tower Theater
Isbell - Criterion
JJ Grey and Mofro - Jone Assembly

I'm seeing the first 3 in the near future:

Old 97's - both at Cain's and at the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival in Columbia Missouri (I believe that will make 8 times I have seen them)
Mavericks - the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival
Isbell - Cain's

I need to check out JJ Grey and Mofro. Guy we met in Atlanta at the Shaky Knees Festival that was a big fan of The Record Company, was also a huge fan of JJG&M.

Plus Moreland and Aaron Lee Tasjan

Lake street dive at the jones
St. Paul and the broken bones at the jones.
Stapleton and Marty Stewart at Chesapeake
Hard working Americans at tower
American aquarium at tower
Reckless Kelly at the 66 fest
Hayes Carll at the blue door

I wish like heck that Ryan Adams wasn't on a Thursday night. Saw him at the Brady last time, but Cain's will be better.

Seriously an awesome fall for music so far

It is crazy. My wife is going to kill me if I buy tickets to one more concert this fall.

Add Turnpike Troubadours at Criterion to the upcoming fall list .

With that said, what kind of venue is the Criterion ? Good acoustics? How is a theater show/ Criterion for a band you would normally see at a bar/club?

I've seen Isbell and Sturgill there and both shows were great. Acoustics wise there were some complaints early but it seems like they've gotten it straightened out.

I didn't go but I think the last Turnpike show there was the biggest crowd they've ever had and they weren't prepared. Talking to people it seems the venue is pretty inconsistent. I've been three times and had zero issues though. I really, really enjoy the place.

I differ from a little from your opinion .. I think the acoustics have been average at best .. In from of the stage close to the sound board seems to be pretty good.

Experienced a couple issues with their service as well .. I'll chalk that up to a new venue but that should be better by now and if not, they just don't really care. The bars seem to move people through pretty quickly.

The last TT show there was packed and fantastic but I doubt I go this time just because it was so peopley .. Again, depending where you stand you may think the sound is just ok.

Yeah all the shows I've been to I've been pretty close to the stage so it has sounded good (I'm also not an audiophile in anyway though). I know if you get under the awning it can sound pretty average. Like I've said, I've had great experiences every time I've been but I know a lot of people haven't.

The actual venue and the location has so much potential if they could get the kinks straightened out and book more than a couple shows per month.

Caught Steve Earle at Tower last night. Enjoyed the venue but had to work not to let him rustle my political jimmies. Good show, glad I got to see him play and I respect his views. At least I expected the narrative. His discussion on Guy Clarks death and wakes was good.

Anyone else seeing turnpike and American aquarium New Year's Eve? Pumped for the show. Not pumped for the weather lol. Not going to be fun lugging a heavy coat around in Cains for 4 hours.

Caught Moreland a couple weeks back at the Tower. He was fantastic. I've never seen him with a full band before and it was great. He closed with Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me".

I saw him at the beginning of December at Cain's. The show was outstanding. I worry about his health. He's a big dude.

Sounds like a repeat of a year ago when the two were at Cains. Froze our *** off with wind whipping down the road. Great show though.

Texas Rangers radio pbp is a good follow on Twitter, is a big music aficionado. I believe he's a part owner of the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff. He does an annual baseball and music tour to Cuba... if anyone has a trip to Cuba on their bucket list. I've considered going the past couple years.

John Hiatt last night at Brady was a nice, kind of laid back show. Opened by himself on guitar, did 4-5 songs. Then the band came out and they did the entire Slow Turning album straight through, due to it being the 30th anniversary of it's release. Then did a couple more songs. He had Sonny Landreth playing lead guitar. John looked and sounded great and seemed to be having a ball.

Have you listened to his daughter's latest record? I've not listened to much of her past work but her newest one is pretty solid IMO.
