Watching his press conference, he is beside himself. Called his team's performance "disgusting", I love Izzo. Calls it like it is.

Jess Settles just gave us far more credit than he gave MSU blame. Said if people didn’t watch the game, they might get that backwards.
Agree. Settles was great. Izzo is a fool. Zero credit to the Cats. It was all about how bad they were. The anti Fitz who always gives credit to the other team.

As the interview went on, Izzo got more and more pissed off at his team and how they took the game lightly. Have to agree he didn't recognize that NU played well.

Practice is not going to be a lot of ***** and giggles for the Spartans this week.

Izzo was a jerk in the press conference. No grace towards NU whatsoever. He owes Collins an apology. Didn't expect that.

Gives very little credit to the Cats. Screw him.

He actually has been very gracious beating our brains in the last few years. Lol I have seen interviews where he said we were very close to turning the corner and that Chris was the right guy to do it. Guess its harder for him to say that after a loss!

Easy to be gracious about NU when you beat them...When you lose is a better read

Easy to say that when he’s killing us. Total ahole tonight after we dominated them.

Consider his job is to get his team to be as good as it can be. He’s no fool. He’s not just venting. He’s taking this game for what it was and using it to make them better for the rest of the season.

Praising the Cats might have not helped his cause. For as much as, for a classy guy, that would have been the right thing to do

To be fair, the interview was 30 minutes after a game that MSU didn't play like a typical MSU team. He pretty much wears his emotions on his sleeve, I appreciate his honesty. I watched them destroy Duke and MSU didn't play wth the same intensity tonight that they did against the hated Blue Devils.

Every coach has to worry primarily about his team, so him being mad at his team doesn’t bother me. But I haven’t seen his postgame, so I can’t question that he showed not even token respect for our play. That’s not cool.

Don’t have to praise the Cats but to insinuate NU basically had nothing to do with them losing is classless. I bet if they played exactly like they did tonight against a highly ranked team like Iowa they wouldn’t lose by much more than 14. That says a lot about how well the Cats played.

He is generally a class act in my experience and very authentic. He was pissed about his team, so be it. Who cares about getting his acknowledgments anyway.

Ok, I’ve begun watching his comments. I’m not done yet, but less than a minute in, he gives us credit. And again a second time within another minute. It’s brief and maybe perfunctory, but it’s there. I’m not surprised he focused on his disappointment with his own team.

Normally he is good in this but he showed very little respect to NU and the but whipping that NU put on them

Usually he is pretty good at showing credit where it is do but not this time. All about what they didn't do and basically nothing about what NU did

That said, the press conference pretty much about his team and nothing about what NU did. Pretty much minimizing the NU role in making them look bad. Again, I understand being upset about his team but instead of saying "NU really brought it and we did not react properly it was all about what they didn't do. What was done by NU had a lot to do with that

Sort of in passing and not much. Token was about all it was. Not one word of what NU brought to the game. The whole rest was about what they didn't do. Again I understand being upset with his team but the way it came out, NU did nothing to win. MSU just found a way to lose

For years Izzo has been complimentary of us. I’m not going to lose sleep over his words after we took it to his team.

He owes at minimum a call to Collins today if he has any perspective on his behavior. A bit extreme, but reminiscent of Woody Hayes loosing perspective late in his career. Old man behavior. From an old man.

The more I think about it, the more pissed off I get. Behaving like Izzo. Old man stuff. The whole substance of his rant was that his team forgot everything they were taught - ie Izzo did everything right but they just didn't do what they were taught. Arrogant and disrespectful. They lost their confidence edge because the other team took it to them. End of story. All of a sudden the slayers of Duke can't defend a pick? BS. He's pissed because it was Northwestern and he feels embarrassed. The Northwestern that endured a year of growing pains just to be in this position. Collin's and the team's success tonight mirrored his career 25 years ago. He should recall that and man up. End of rant.

He doesn’t owe anyone anything. It’s not his job to boost up and credit an opponent that they lost too. Honestly, it bugs me when Coaches give the cursory “give XXX credit, they placed a whale of a game, great coach, turning around the program, have to be prepared”. It’s Coach speak . Izzo did what he needed to do for his team, the one he is paid by. Bottom line is MSU plays up their capabilities they beat NU. Izzo has been a great Coach for a long period of time and has been nowhere near the jerk that has represented some big universities in recent B1G seasons.

Let CCC and the rest of us give credit to the NU team. That’s his job and hopefully what we feel about the effort. NU played a great game and having Izzo not gush about it is a pimple on a tough guys butt.

I’d much rather have Izzo lose by a dozen and complain that his team didn’t show up to play than win by 25 and say that NU is on the right track.

This is the little bitchiest thread ever.

WE BEAT THE NUMBER FOUR TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. LET’S ENJOY THAT WE REALLY REALLY REALLY PISSED OFF A HALL OF FAME HEAD COACH.

the standard Izzo press conference after a loss is to whine and moan about how awful his players are and that it's his fault they are so terrible. He tries to make it sound like he blames himself, but just whines and whines about how terrible his players are.

This board is sounding pretty entitled right now. The last couple of years, we have been a terrible, terrible team. Izzo's frustration is completely understandable to me. If I was him, I'd be livid with the way MSU played too. We aren't owed anything other than a brief acknowledgement that we beat them, which Izzo gave us.

There is a difference between what is owed versus reasonable expectations of a Hall of Fame coach and icon of the game. Expectation of a brief "Congratulations to Coach Collins and his team for a terrific game tonight." Is hardly being bitchy. Not for the fans but out of respect for a fellow team. He knows better.

Izzo apologized within his comments. He said something to the effect of... I know this sounds like I'm not giving any credit to Chris and his team, which isn't fair. They deserved it.

But it was clear he was really frustrated. MSU played horribly. We were awesome, no doubt. But MSU was also really terrible. That is how a bottom tier team knocks off the #4 team in the country. Both things have to be true. I don't fault Izzo for focusing on the part he cares about. But he did say they were outcoached and outworked by Northwestern.

Fact is, Coach Izzo hasn't had much practice in doing interviews after the Spartans have been waxed.

Next time the teams play, perhaps the Cats will offer him another opportunity to be more gracious in post-loss remarks. He deserves a chance to get better at it. ;)

If your response to the biggest Northwestern win in 41 years is to be upset that Tom Izzo was unhappy with how his team played ...... then I just don't know what to tell you. Enjoy the win. Izzo's job is to send a message to his team there. No more, no less. It's not classless to focus on his team after they played terribly, just like it doesn't make him overly classy to throw Collins (or Carmody through the years) a bone after a convincing MSU win. His team WASN'T ready to play and his job is to make sure that next time they are. Just enjoy the fact that we OUTPLAYED THE NO. 4 TEAM IN THE NATION.

Izzo is one of the last coaches in the B1G I’d complain about. He’s been nothing but complementary over the years of Collins and is a well respected coach. He’s pissed of at his players and he has every right. We wouldn’t wanna hear Collins praising Pitt after our loss we’d wanna hear him angry at his players for not showing up and knowing things are gonna get turned around in practice. I don’t wanna be who MSU plays next.

Izzo did say something along the lines of “give Northwestern credit” before his otherwise epic and incredible anti-MSU rant.
