Maybe this was discussed...but why didn't he play?
I can’t quite figure it out. I don’t think he’s played quite as strong or confident in recent weeks but to not be able to get virtually any minutes is a red flag.

I like JRob playing over Jav, but I still tend to like Jack’s usual toughness and ability to at least make a jumper. But again, I’ve seen the lack of confidence he had in the second half of last year rear it’s ugly head and perhaps that’s why.

Jack is a real head scratcher. At times he's amazing, rebounding, steals, hitting 3's,really contributing,Other times he seems lost.Ireally think we need the good Jack to make a run this March.

Probably a mystery we'll never hear an answer to. Even though he is a liability on the offensive end he always seems to get a huge block or rebound when we need it. And we needed it last night.

I suspect an injury or illness that Coach K has decided to keep quiet. What's amazing is I can't find anyone in the media who is asking this question which makes me think Coach has told them not to ask. Very strange and unsettling.

A guy who has always been a hard worker and good leader suddenly disappears and not a word is spoken by the coaches or the media.

Has he made any actual progress since the beginning of last season? Serious question. And if not why not?

the last times he was in the court he was completely lost, offense and defense. His 3 shot can be , well you guys know.

furthermore, if there is any doubt to what I’ve said, why hasn’t K played him? K would know.

These media guys suck. They act like they’re scared of K. He gives a lot of bs answers and they never have follow up questions for him. Jack hasn’t played bad. Since Moore moved into the starting lineup we just stop playing him out the blue. He wasn’t shooting bad or anything. K took his confidence and put him on the bench

I don't get why K is super patient with some guys and keeps playing them, and is not patient with others and yanks them the minute they miss a shot or two. No way to build confidence that way, imo.

White is in the latter category. When he was getting minutes, he was not playing that poorly. Didn't have a good offensive game against L'Ville. It's classic impatience - almost as if one or two not great shooting games and he's on the bench. I think his hustle on D is great and I think he just needs to be given confidence from the coach to keep playing D and let a shot come his way. Here's his stats since the 1st Wake game. They weren't bad until his minutes came down. Seems like since BC he's been ostensibly relegated:

Exactly. I just don’t get it. The bench is about to start getting short very soon here

I posted this last night in the game thread.

He was playing very well on both ends, and his shot was really starting to fall. He was 8/15 from three in that stretch..

When K dropped his minutes he hasn’t shot well since. Makes zero sense based on how he was playing to go from all those minutes played to essentially none now...zero sense.

His toughness, Hustle and intangibles are what he brings with an occasional three or offensive rebound and put back.

Without his defensive awareness at the end of the Kansas game we lose. He’s not the best athlete but we lose a lot of “other things” with him riding the pine.

I'm not going to buy into his offense or defense. Last year, Jack played well with Zion and RJ. What has taken place in February is probably an in - house decision. It will come out later, but Coach K has that on lock for the moment.

If we are "young" as Coach stated in the press conference and reiterates a lot...then why not play a senior captain to help at critical times. There is little point in having a senior captain on the bench when clearly experience could help. White may not be great but at times he is really effective around our basket on D. Add in the odd bucket and intangibles and he's a + not a minus usually when on the court. The string of games with single digit minutes is hard to understand.

Oh how I wish I could be a fly in the Duke locker room, during team meetings, in practices ans on the Duke bench and team huddles so I would know everything that goes on. Would I post it on this board? No way. What would we do if we knew everything that went on. Some of us would not even post anymore because it would take away our speculation. OFC

That's why I said it may be revealed at a later time.

I'm convinced that if Jack kept up his play last year from November 2018, Duke cuts down the nets last year and it's not close.

I’m totally confused as to what has happened to him. He wasn’t playing great but i really didn’t think he was playing that bad. He was shooting pretty well there for awhile in conference play.

I think Jack could play more minutes too.

That said, it’s pretty clear what’s going on here. Wendell returned and K went smaller. His two primary bigs have been Vernon and Javin. He’s elected to roll with Matthew over Jack. I’m not saying I agree one way or the other, but it’s somewhat plain to see.

Personally, I think the continued development of Wendell and Matthew is more important for long term success, but at the same time I’m not saying abandoning Jack is the answer.

Exactly. Jack was just a pawn. All along the plan was probably to go small with Wendell at the 4.

I think it’s disingenuous to call Jack a pawn. If Jack showed the kind of consistency he did early last season, he’d be playing regular minutes. So while the plan to go small wasn’t thought up over night, I also think most of us feel Wendell and Matthew make us better long term.

He definitely was a pawn. We used him early until we could work in the small lineup. It’s cool. But right now he needs to be getting minutes. Tre and Vernon occasionally need to be the only people playing over 30 minutes consistently

So what was the plan at the beginning of the season when everyone was healthy and Jack was playing a larger role? And we were playing better basketball. Seemed to be working then. Why go away from that after Moore came back?

It's crazy to think but Jack White was the best player on the floor the last 5 minutes of the game against Kansas.

We all were excited about having a 10 man rotation a few months ago, well guess what, K has squeezed the rotation now. Jack can only play the 4, he's too slow and lacks the playmaking skills to play the 3.

Wendell playing the 4 is probably our most dangerous lineup, and it seems to be the small-ball lineup K thinks is our best.
And Hurt can really only play the 4, we saw what happens against Wake when Hurt plays center, he's just too weak. We need Hurt's offense, he has to play.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I recall that drop down in the lane on defense to make a steal in the last minute which pretty much ended the game.

Count me among those who is perplexed and wishes Jack was playing more. I wonder if there's an injury?

I've always liked Jack. Perhaps he has an injury. Hopefully he will step up big in a game for us; hopefully today. If he is injured/sick then J Rob gets a shot.
