I've been pretty excited about all our portal additions so far, but this one is........ interesting. Maybe a sign we are losing a RB?

I hate this pick up. Would much rather have the kid who had committed to TCU. Man.

I wonder if we would still take a HS kid? Our RB is pretty unsettled after Johnson. Yant and Stepp seem like flight risks and Ervin is coming off a serious knee injury.

I'm all for getting RB's, but this kid seems to be a stretch.

He’s a big boy bruiser at 230 lbs.
We have room for him, but also would not be shocked if somehow they made room for one more and/or we potentially dropped one.

Ervin coming off knee, Johnson (small), Stepp (big), Yant (big). Johnson#2 (young and smallish)…. Jackson (big)
3 big boys and a couple small guys and hybrid Ervin.

His offer list was a "who's who" of college football. Not certain why he got passed up.

big body, offers from everyone, seems genuinely pissed off all the time (which I like)

the result of this will be closer to what people thought we were getting with Stepp (a contributor) than what we actually got with Stepp (a total bust)

cross was from georgia, and did good once they figured out to use him at the goal line.
johnson seems like the best all round back we have

In two seasons, he only has 3 carries for 13 yards? Seems like this scholarship could have been used somewhere of greater need.

from the front page:

With very little time to figure out his future, Jackson told HuskerOnline he relied heavily on his previous relationship with Husker assistant coaches like Sean Beckton, who recruited him back in high school.

“They kind of already had been on my radar since high school,” Jackson said. “They recruited me heavy in high school. It’s always kind of been there for me.

“They were one of the first schools that came back to me once I entered the portal. That was already big factor for me, and they were looking for a big-time running back right now. That’s what I’m trying to do, and I have a chance to go in and make an impact right away. That was what was big for me, and I want to help them back to where they want to be.”

NU's backfield faces several questions in 2022, and we also still don't know who the position coach will be at this point.

Jackson thinks his skillset should fit right into the competition.

“I’m a very powerful runner, but at the same time I have a nice twist to myself,” Jackson said. “I can make defenders miss, I can catch the ball out of the backfield, I can pass block better than anything – I feel like I can be the complete back. The only thing I feel like I kind of lack is probably that 4.3 speed. I’m right at 4.5, so I feel like my game still makes it work for me.”

anyone who thinks we do not need all the help we can get at RB is fooling themselves. Rahmir is not a 20+ carry/game back, and it's 50/50 if Yant will go the right way when the ball's snapped.

Stepp stinks, Ervin's hurt. turns out Held was just straight trash at his job & Frost allowed him to fill the cupboard with a bunch of near-unplayable nobodies.

Hate? I’m all for competition. Ervin coming off an injury and Stepp and Yant didn’t get it done last year as bigger backs
Rahmir and Emmett Johnson both are different body types than the bigger goal line guys. If he’s the best available in this crucial year I don’t have a major problem with it
The cluster of the RB room and the development and reps up to this point was a major problem
Just as important as this transfer add is who the position coach is for the room

Welcome Mr. Jackson. I love that he seems to relish pass blocking. Welcome aboard the transfer train. GBR

He's a 4 for 4 guy. Like getting a HS recruit but he's been in the college system for 2 years so he's physically and mentally prepared to compete. A&M had/has a loaded RB room.

I don't disagree we need running backs, I personally just wasn't thrilled looking at his highlights. Outside of Rahmir, I wouldn't care if we turned over our entire running back room, but would like more guys with the full package. I know they are hard to find, but start looking at guys with Speed, Power and Shiftiness. I long for the days of our old RB's. Maybe Omaha can start producing some of them for us again.

I'm not going to write this kid off because he's young but he didn't see much time in the A&M backfield which begs to question, Why?

4th string at A&M is 2nd team at NU. Time is short, you can't risk rotting on the bench.

Christ, the guy hasn't played a snap yet and people are ready to ship him off to siberia. The guy had a schollie from Texas A & M....not Alabama A & M.

Highlights? He had 3 carries at A&M. So I am to assume those carries were from HS when we was like 30 lbs or so lighter? The coaches obviously made the call but there is no way, anyone can make a call based on the data we apparently have unless there is something I haven't seen posted.

So those who are skeptical probably have some legit reasons. On paper it doesn't look impressive but the coaches make the call based on info we apparently do not have. Why use a scholarship on an unknown when we have so many holes to fill?

I think A&M had a who’s who of RBs for him to compete with. Also don’t know what adding 30 lbs did to his game.
Subtracting QB carries, the top two TAMU RBs got the ball 80% of the plays. But apparently he didn’t even compete for the scraps.

The staff liked this kid enough to take him. Rahmir averaged 70 yds/game rushing and receiving. He could be a guy who can get a thousand yards. When Yant’s head was in the game, he was a load to bring down and could be downright demoralizing to opposing Ds if paired with better line play. These guys aren’t Burkhead or AA, but I’d take Imani Cross level play in the short term.

He was losing snaps to two true freshman. Both guys in top 250 by TOS. One was top 50. Lot of young competition at A&M.
