Nice player but wouldn't see any PT I wouldn't think. UVA may be a good destination.

He’s an interesting player. Very athletic. Very skilled.

Had a bad game against Duke last season in the PK80. This season he was all over the place, but can score in bunches at times. Streaky shooter with huge range. If we don’t get Stanley, I’m in.

Thanks but no thanks. We’re trying to get Stanley and Hurt. Multi year players. Not a one year ren....what am I saying here? I sound like these anti one and done people. Come on down man.

Any other year I’d be saying bring him on in but this year we’re looking like we have depth. Could’ve used him this year

Never would I ever imagine Toolson being mentioned in the same breath as Duke basketball. I remember seeing him as a freshmen at BYU, and I thought he was about as average a player as you could find. He can shoot, but very meh in everything else. I know he's had some anxiety issues over the years, too. Don't think he could handle the pressure of performing for a blue blood. Pass.

Hurt wants to be one-and-done, he’s not a multi year player. Of course what he wants and what will happen can be two separate stories.

But like you, I don’t think we should go after Toolson. That’s great that he shot 46% or whatever from deep in a random west coast conference but I’m not sure that translates to big boy competition smoothly. It did with Seth Curry, but that’s an exclusive bloodline lol.

Don't see Hurt being one and done unless he shows us something he hasn't shown so far. I can't see him in the NBA two years from now. Draft must be historically weak next year

It’s supposed to be weak next year, kind of hard to assume though until these kids start playing. I know in a few instances of Hurt’s recruitment he has made comments about evaluating schools and their one-done success and how they handle the players.

I hope he is one and done. That means he played well and we made a deep run

Played well?
Yes.

Deep run?
Not so much.

Losing early in the NCAAs didn't seem to adversely impact the draft position of Austin Rivers, Jabari Parker, Rodney Hood, Jayson Tatum or Luke Kennard.

Toolson?

Depends on Stanley, depends on whether there's any unexpected attrition.

Are any of those friends NBA GMs? :)

Transfers? I'm always surprised when someone leaves Duke. Slow learner.

Duke's recent full-court press for Stanley seems directly related to their lack of confidence in getting Hampton. Hampton wants to have the ball in his hands for his one season in college and that's not likely with Jones returning.

Just talking DUKE BASETBALL, as far as the guys I mentioned, could give a dang about NBA.....Oh sure its FANTASTIC for exposure and bringing more kids in, but some of the kids referenced didnt exactly buy into the "Duke System."

Yeah I think Hampton's dad wants the ball in junior's hands too, and sense a little of Bagley's daddy in him from what I have read...

Here's the thing about the NBA.

You may not care about the NBA. But amateur players do. A lot.

Duke's ability to get players to the NBA after a year or two makes the program attractive to prepsters who want to get to the NBA as quickly as possible. It's a never-ending cycle and It does a great job of maximizing NBA-level talent, while minimizing top-tier NCAA-level experience.

I'm not sure if Duke can get off the wheel without a down cycle. Hopefully, Ellis, Moore, Baker, maybe Hurt or Stanley can fill that sweet spot between too-good-to-stick-around-very long and not-good-enough-to-win-at-the-Duke-level.

This past season was the first year since 2007 that Duke did not have a single senior in the rotation. Hopefully, that was an outlier and we know Duke will have two or three rotation seniors next season.

The equation changes when and if the NBA and NBA Player's Association make some changes. But talk is cheap as they say, so I'm reserving judgment.

Lol, Jim I know THEY CARE about the NBA, but in some ways, some years I should say we've had kids who really didnt seem to unpack their suitcases while at Duke. That bothers me.

Now THIS YEAR we had a TERRIFIC GROUP, but in some years its a crapshoot. You have to roll the dice and HOPE you're getting guys w/the will to WIN at this level like Zion, RJ, Tre.....

Its a tough balance to strike and in some ways is catching lightning in a bottle. I DO like the point you make about some of these kids filling the breach so to speak....

Most of them besides Luke were projected high picks anyway. Hurt isn’t even on a few of the mock drafts so he’s up in the air right now. If Hurt plays well then we will make a run deep. With Tre at point and Carey having to be guarded one on one in the paint we would be very hard to guard if hurt plays big time.

One would hope. But there's simply no guarantee that Hurt having a season that appeals to the NBA automatically leads to team success.
