So in this post, I don't really disagree with much that you say. I just think your dislike makes you reach sometimes.

I'd agree Roy is a rube and takes on the persona of the fan base. He certainly lied his tail off about the academic scandal....we all agree there.

Where I don't agree is with him being fake. I really think Roy is like that. He's a little bit of rube and buffoon mixed together. Also, despite all those traits....he's a great coach. You don't win like he has just because. Roy's biggest flaw as a coach, IMO, is he only likes to coach one way. He doesn't cater to his strengths and weaknesses. Another flaw is the one we're seeing this year in the media.

I agree with that assessment. I do enjoy Roy bashing with the best of us and I can see how it's viewed as reaching when making statements about his coaching ability. I do think Roy is a good coach but only at his best when he has the certain talent (who are upperclassmen) that fits his system. As you mentioned, he doesn't really adapt to his players strengths, it's the opposite, the players have to adapt to Roys strengths which isn't always successful. I agree Roy has won a lot of games and it's due to being a good coach. You have to recruit well and find players to run his style of play. However, I still stand by my statement that I would take 5 active coaches over Roy.

No problem. I wasn't coming after you or telling you to slow it down....just an observation. We're not all going to agree. Most posters can handle that, some on the other hand, can't.

I for sure don't think hof coach roy williams is fake. He is what he is. I do think he's arragont, cocky, feels entitled, thinks everybody loves him, really believes that there was no wrong doing in the AFAM scandal for the simple reason that it involved his program and I feel he has a hint of being a narcissistic. What I'm about to say and I realize I wear it out is that before being a basketball coach he is 1st a tar heel fan, he can't help it . It's his nature. He reacts exactly the way tar heel fans do. He talks about character and integrity and how he looks for those qualities in players but look who he goes out and recruits. dean smith talked about integrity and character once also but that changed about the time Duke won back to back. Wasn't long after that before AFAM began along with recruits that lacked that integrity and character dean talked about and players like wallace, forte, mcinnis and ndaiye ( yes he was a smith recruit ) and others because Coach K had become his equal as far as winning and recruiting had become. So what is one to do? Find a way to gain the advantage by recruiting athletes who would need help to stay eligible but find the way to make it easy not only for athletes but for all students. The plan was well thought out and it covered all the bases if anything was ever challenged. hof coach roy williams just does exactly what he was taught by his mentor. I know this sounds crazy from me but at one time I had some respect for the unc basketball program but that vanished with the AFAM fraud and the actions and attitude of all involved in it . OFC

I have never really stopped to consider “How do I feel about Roy”. He’s just never really made the list of things I will think about today. I guess you have to admit he is a successful coach. And I hope he is never at Duke, unless Cal is the absolute only other candidate.

This whole board is obsessed with Roy for some reason. Every single thread turns into a Roy-fest. I can’t stand the dude or the school. He’s the last thing i want to talk about constantly.

I'm not sure obsessed is the right word. He brings so much of it on himself. For me it all comes down to the AFAM scandal, fraud , scam or whatever you want to call it. I had a little respect for the man and his program before the cat got of the bag but that all disappeared when he denied knowledge of everything and then blamed the NCAA for hampering his recruiting. To me he is a hypocrit in its purest form so I'm gonna jump on his rear end every chance I get. Now he's whining about this current season. He deserves the bashing he gets from this board and the same does for our current ACC commissioner johnny "tar heel: swofford. How in the world he got the job I will never know. OFC

Sky, obsessed don't even apply to what he posted, much less him saying every single thread turns into a Roy-fest.

Overreaction- A more emotional or forcible response than is justified. That's what I got out of the post. Just my 2 cents.

You’re getting really upset by me posting facts buddy lol. I’m not mad about it. I’m gonna keep coming here and reading info on the best basketball team in the country no matter what. But I’m not wrong here at all. I can start tagging you in them if you would like lol. Just my 2 cents tho.

You need to find a new line of work because your mind reading or stating facts are off. Lol, getting mad at what? People exaggerating when they mention something that's not true? Naw, that's not me buddy. No need to tag, I just looked over at least 5 threads that don't mention Roy's name at all, so that throws out your every single thread statement.

But anywho, we all welcome you to be here, so by no means don't go anywhere. But if you really want to talk Duke without anybody mentioning Roy, venture over to our other Duke board. It's called Rupp Rafters. I promise his name will not be in those Duke threads.

I just finished reading a book that Roy wrote. He is definitely one of the most narcissistic I have seen. Old Roy loves to speak about himself in the 3rd person and about his drive and determination. In the book he talked about the way that it was Dean Smith that wanted everyone to know that Old Roy turned down the Laker job before it was offered to Coach K. Old Roy just didn't think it needed to be made public that Old Roy got offered the Laker job first because that is not the kind of person that Old Roy is. So he doesn't want it to be a big deal that Old Roy was offered the Laker job before Coach K. Old Roy has too much class. What a jerk!

I never liked Deano with his left-handed compliments but I have come to realize that Deano had more class in his little pinkie than Old Roy, who was offered the Laker job first, has in his whole body.

Did you guys realize that Old Roy was offered the Laker job before Coach K? Old Roy doesn't want to talk about it but he was.

Me either. Wouldn’t say the whole board, but pretty much how I feel. I don’t care enough to put any energy towards that boytoy like some. Which is fine, everybody’s different, I just get annoyed by it. Don’t find any humor in it. :) They ain’t even worth mentioning this season.

Sounds about right in regards to Roy. Please elaborate on the Lakers jobs offer. I can’t remember all the details surrounding that particular situation, but did Roy really make it a point that he was offered the job first? Lol

It wasn't only the Laker job that was offered to him before Coach K. The Olympic team, the Celtics, President of the NCAA, NCAA Czar which they were going to create for him . ESPN has a permanate offer on the table to be the C.E.O. and president and have had the offer for years. He was offered a job in one of the presidential administration in a new cabinet as Secretary of College Athletics, he turned down runs for the governor of North Carolina as well as U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress and the floor , ceiling and the roof in the dean dome being named the hof coach roy williams floor, ceiling and roof. He humble said no to all saying his calling was to be the tar heel basketball coach to teach young men about character and integrity. That is why he is no only the most interesting man on the earth but also the best all around. Coach K can't touch that. OFC

I did have to laugh at the Roy and Laker job, but actually, Roy was never offered the job. Kupchak simply called and asked if Roy would be interested in the job, Roy said no. There was never an actual offer on the table. Now, on the other hand, K was actually offered the job.

Jalen Johnson thread turns into a Roy Williams thread
I'm sure with your post count, this isn't the first time you have seen this happen lol. I understand where you are coming from, but we can get sidetracked on things not just involving Roy either. When you have as much traffic as we do here, it's bound to happen. All it takes is one post and a few comments based on that one post and there you have it. We usually get back on track when something new comes in on the original thread title.
