The caller was wrong in thinking USC/UCLA wouldn't fill Beaver Stadium like Pitt would. USC at Beaver Stadium will be a hot ticket. Pitt needs PSU/WVU to fill their stadium, not vice versa.

If it were up to me I'd play Pitt when hell freezes over.
USC has played at Beaver Stadium. And it was filled and a very tough ticket (1994).
Pretty much any Power 5 team is going to be a sellout at Beaver Stadium (at least in terms of ticket sales, whether people show up is another story, but PSU already has that money so...). Playing Pitt versus BC or Syracuse vs any other P5 team is irrelevant.
That said, I expect all of the new PAC teams will actually be very hot tickets for PSU (especially USC and Oregon) and the resale market - since gain they will all be sellouts - will be higher for that than they would be for Pitt.
Heather Lyke tried to cut a deal with Ms. Excellence and went down in flames. Does she stand a better chance with Kraft? Who knows?
