I laugh at fb recruiting , it's crazy how much chair swapping that goes on before you know who's coming .
Few days ago UK offered a '17 JUCO DE named Phil Hoskins who'll be visiting soon. With UK low on scholarships it's unlikely UK would've taken both Hoskins and Hudson. Hate to see it but if you go after good players you're going to have to fight for them. BTW, when thinking of how Hoskins/Hudson will be used think Z. Smith.
All based on measurables and projections. Everybody wants DL - very hard to hang on to the good ones.I am surprised he blew up so big-time. Watched them on TV last season and came away very unimpressed. Shows what I know about DL evaluation.

Yeah and that's tough for me. I like guys (in all sports) who have shown actual production...not guys that have xyz and if they put abc together then you have something. All based on measurables and projections. Everybody wants DL - very hard to hang on to the good ones.
I wanted him but he was not a need I don't think.
I gotta put you back on ignore...I wanted him but he was not a need I don't think.
Ray Horton is a heck of a ball player. When the big programs recruit these kids it's hard for us to compete considering we haven't been to a bowl game in years. Stoops has to make it to a bowl game this year.I gotta put you back on ignore...
Hope UK now offers Ray Horton, too.

Yeah, I'm aware of Hoskins, but I'm greedy - let's take all three - can't have too many DL IMO...DA, please see my comments above about Phil Hoskins. He's the likely replacement for Hudson IMO.
Don't know if Horton's an option...what's the status of Javon Provitt?

If we don't bowl Hudson won't be the only decommit. Time to stop talking about next year and get it done.Ray Horton is a heck of a ball player. I'd say your right. Have to start showing improvement on the field or the recruiting will take a big hitIf we don't bowl Hudson won't be the only decommit. Time to stop talking about next year and get it done.
Hudson will not be the last 2017 recruit to decommit, but we will get someone to take his place. Until we get to another level, this will continue to happen.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
Don't think so much.I wanted him but he was not a need I don't think.

Don't think so much.
What they really are saying is, "I am going to hold my spot by committing to play at school X, meanwhile I am going to look around, attend and work out at camps, take all my officials and see if I like something better." Don't think for a second it's only UK commits who view things like this, they want to "feel the love" for multiple years. Its like they are the only kid in the class, certainly not all, but far too many of them.
I've saw Horton play several times. He's one of the best at his position I've ever saw. I don't watch a ton of high school football outside of the mountains though. He's the best player on Belfry. What we really need is to play (and coach) up to our full potential and replace those that fall by the wayside with even better players, even if our coaches are the only ones that think so. Still disappointing though, but if we have a great year we will be in on a lot of great talent, he isn't nearly as important as Jones perception and recruiting wise, IMO.
I did see a highlight film on Horton and was very impressed. I know, it is a highlight film, but it was one of the best I have seen.
Seldom is a juco a better addition than a solid high school player. This is a bad development, but not unexpected. From the beginning, I have said holding onto Hudson would be harder than holding onto Mac Jones. Hudson is still considering Kentucky, but I believe we have lost him. Losing Hudson will not change the fact that Stoops' 2017 class is another great class. But it hurts us because our defensive line is among the weakest areas on our roster. Signing Phil Hoskins, if we can, won't change that. When you rebuild with jucos, you generally get 1 developmental year followed by 1 really productive year out of the player, and then he is gone. A team in Kentucky's position must rebuild with a series of strong classes built around high school players. Stoops needs to sign a bunch of big, athletic 4 year defensive linemen like Kordell Looney and Kengera Daniel. We just don't have enough of them. Signing Hudson would have been a huge step forward, but he isn't the only fish in the sea.Few days ago UK offered a '17 JUCO DE named Phil Hoskins who'll be visiting soon. Give me a break. Do you think Kentucky is the only team with de-commitments? Every team in college football has de-commitments almost every year. I have said this on many threads, but it isn't sinking in yet. You guys need to prepare yourselves for 2017, not 2016, becoming Stoops' breakout season. In 2016, Stoops has an inexperienced sophomore quarterback, another suspect offensive line, and a bad defensive front 7. But in 2017, Stoops will have about 20 returning starters including an experienced quarterback, a much better offensive line, and a much better defense. It is very rare in history for any college team to have 20 returning starters. 2017 will be Stoops' year.If we don't bowl Hudson won't be the only decommit. Time to stop talking about next year and get it done.
This is also why I've always maintained that if we take the next step up we will be a really good offensive team long before we are a really good defensive team. Teams that have had success building up by building around defense are few and far in between and are almost never in leagues as tough to defend as the SEC.It's what separates good teams from wannabes. UK lagging behind in this area somewhat.
It's not sinking in because it's not totally accurate. Sure every team has decommits but the problem is magnified when you don't win. Some commits you can see it in. I can't remember his name any more but the WR from Florida I knew we would lose him from the day he committed. Hudson however was different. I believe he was sincere in his commitment. But let's face if you are a top DL with NFL aspirations who are you going to chose in the end a team that could win a national title or a team that won't even make a bowl game. We will always lose some but I believe we would be keeping some of the ones in this class if we won 7 games last year and were projected to win 7 or 8 this year. We are selling progress to these kids and it's an easier sell if there actually is some.Give me a break. Do you think Kentucky is the only team with de-commitments? Of course it was accurate. If winning was easy, every team would win. Every year, a few teams break out and get a lot better. But that happens for good reasons, like roster improvement, favorable schedule, special teams, ball security, opportunistic play. It doesn't happen just because a few posters on an internet board become impatient. You believe we can't get players like Hudson without a winning record. But we are already getting them. De-commitments are part of recruiting. You may not be aware of this, but Alabama and Georgia also have de-commitments. Stoops hasn't had a winning season yet at Kentucky, but he is recruiting excellent classes. Many high school defensive lineman have NFL aspirations. Not all of them can go to Alabama, LSU, Clemson, and Ohio State. Of course Hudson was sincere when he committed to Kentucky. The kid changed his mind. Have you ever seen a teenager do that? LOL!It's not sinking in because it's not totally accurate. Sure every team has decommits but the problem is magnified when you don't win. Some commits you can see it in.
