Love the defense first type of coach. Requires no basketball skill, just wanting to get stops. Geronimo for Indiana is that kid of guy.

To me that why Audige is so important this year. He seems to have that mentality, it just if he will do it.

Got a little information on the NU-LU series at a Q and A yesterday. Sounds like LU would like to play NU..but maybe getting NU to agree to a home-away agreement is an issue....but definitely sounds like there are open lines of communication trying to make this happen. Also brought up was that NU and LU are trying to work on a double header that would involve LU, NU , DP and maybe UIC. Did not mention where but a revival of the old Chicago Stadium doubleheaders would be great. It seems to me NU will be the City Champ if they can bring home the W tomorrow night against UIC.

Glad to hear about the Chicago schools working together to create more interest in college hoops here. There was a lively crowd for the DePaul-NU game Saturday. I noticed that there was a quadruple header Saturday at the United Center with NO Chicago or Illinois teams involved. What was that all about? Didn't get any local pub. What kind of crowd did it draw?

From the Sun Times a week or two ago ...

From Kate, via email: ‘‘Why is there a college basketball tournament coming to Chicago with no local or state teams involved?’’

The folks behind the Legends of Basketball Showcase on Dec. 17 at the United Center wish there were local schools in the lineup, and they tried. But this eight-team event — four games, one day (not a ‘‘tournament’’) — came together too late to make that happen. DePaul plays at Northwestern that same day, for example, Illinois has a nonconference home game against Alabama A&M and Loyola, which plays a day later at home, will be in town. Would be nice to see more of the locals share a court, wouldn’t it?

According to a spokesman, the hope is the event will be held again next season — and with more of a local flavor. This time, N.C. State, Vanderbilt and Dayton are the headliners.

Was at both the LU-UIC game and the DP at LU game.. both were great affairs with raucous crowds, great atmospheres..Hope we continue to bring Chicago college basketball back to where it used to be.

My guess is we don't want to go on the road against a lower conference team, but that's a mistake (not least because Loyola has been to a Final Four unlike us). We should embrace being Chicago's Big Ten Team and try to drum up some local excitement for our program and area basketball as a whole.

We already have a home and home every year with DePaul. With the Gavitt Games and a tourney, plus a conference challenge? replacing the ACC Challenge, the non conference slots are limited. Maybe Loyola would go for a 2-for-1 deal. I think these in-city matchups are great for all concerned which is why I liked this year's schedule when it came out,.

Don't get me started, Catreporter. I've typed it too many times over the years.

Greater interest. More home ticket sales. Far less road travel costs. Less cost to bring in an opponent. What's not to like?

The only argument I can think of is that ridiculous chickens*^% notion that you don't want to give your competition an opportunity to move ahead of you. Good programs take on all comers. And recent history shows if you can't win a strong majority of games against DePaul, UIC, Loyola, NIU etc, well then ...

And we'll just leave it at that.

Francesca's closed a couple years ago, sadly. Could do Rosebud or Tufano's though.
