Jared’s high school team finished an undefeated season by winning the State championship in the largest classification in Georgia and are ranked #2 in the nation.

His high school career seems similar to that of Pardon in that he is the third or fourth “best” player on a stacked team with higher-ranked recruits. His team did not need him to score but rather to defend and rebound. I think Pardon’s career far exceeded his ranking and hopefully Jared will do the same.

Good take. If he is only as good as Dererk was he'll be just fine.

Like it when kids play at the highest level. This competition will set him up for the B1G.

He was all tournament in the City of Palms holiday tournament, which was won by McEchron against teams like Oak Hill, Montevideo, IMG Academy, and from a local perspective I believe Whitney Young. He will get plenty of minutes next year.

Do I sense a bit of shade toward Pete Nance?
Wasn't intended to shade Pete, but the fact of the matter is Dererk's high school played higher level competition than Revere, and so apparently does Jared's. Pete didn't make his high school's schedule.....

I posted this in another spread...there's film online of a game played in the last couple of weeks in which Jared Jones calmly knocks down multiple threes. Had to stop, back up and look again. From other film thought he was strictly an inside offensive player. He has a nice shot and made it look like he takes a handful each game. Also good that he's out there and comfortable on the perimeter as they run their offensive sets.

Jones could be a 4 year starter. Of course it's hard to tell now but if he stepped in and contributed immediately that would be huge!

Once upon a time, everyone said the same about Benson, Nance, etc.

But I’m sure this guy is different!

i'm thinking/hoping more like Dererk Pardon 4 years.
Benson never had a chance to be a starter ahead of Pardon anyway.

I don’t remember anyone saying that about Benson.

It’s true. The over optimism on incoming frosh is like the true love for the backup QB.

Maybe Jones will be an under the radar smashing success. But that’s against the odds. Odds are that true frosh percentage wise shouldn’t play in the B1G (plenty of exceptions, but as general rule) and three stars aren’t going to be game changers (again, plenty of exceptions but as a general rule).

The irony is that wrassler took premature or unearned hyping to another level and the folks that bash him are some of the same folks that claim every unproven player is the next MJ.

You actually make an excellent point here. But, to be fair, all fanbases do that.

The difference is that wrassler kept it up even after we had seen plenty of Ash over a couple years to know he wasn't the answer.

It’s ok to be happy and excited when a player commits to NU.

I specifically recall Collins saying before his frosh year that Benson would get minutes because NU didn't have anyone else to spell Pardon. I think staff would have preferred to redshirt.

Benson's a nice basketball player and so is Rap. Both were four stars by at least one ser

Who would have backed up Pardon?

if you have interest in NU basketball then its worth spending five minutes looking at video of Jared Jones.

He is different. He's different than Pardon, different than Benson, different than Olah.

Are there updated tapes on jones for 2019? The ones I have found are either old or just to small to view. Help!

Willy, there's a full tape of one of his recent playoff games online....he casually takes and knocks down three three's. If I can find it again I'll post the link.

The biggest difference is that the kid plays on the top high school team in the country - a team that has, on multiple occasion this season, defeated top ranked high schools with one and done talent.

I have no idea how Jones will pan out. But, he’s not coming from the New England Prep League. He has seen B1G level talent before.

Ok, but how many unproven or incoming frosh have been hyped year after year. Wrassler could figure it out watching the same guy. Other posters can figure it out year after year after year - save the rare exception. Kinda like if something good came from Ash, it would re-energize him. Mac and Pardon refueled the folks looking at the unknown as likely saviors.

No. Not everybody. Indeed, very few that knew what they were talking about at the time.

Like Vassar. Or maybe that long snapping football player - tons of excitement.
Gee what does one have to do with the other? Maybe you should follow TSISB in this years NCAA tourney. Oh wait they didn't get invited. What a shame.

No thanks. Colgate and Murray State are my teams to root on this year.
