There was alot of dissension between Towles and his receiving corp last year. I remember Baker being a crushing blocker as a freshman, but not the same as a sophomore. Eventhough he sometimes dogged it he saved our butts against EKU and had the game winning catch against Mizzou. I hope he and the rest of the receivers have their heads on straight this season. Early reports would seem to suggest they do. GBB

Towels and Lorenzen are close. Lorenzen is probably privy to a lot of information we know nothing about but with Jared it seems almost personal. Like someone on the staff has dissed him personally.
Yes they where or are close. However I know that part of the divide last year among the team was how Dawson coached Patrick. In Pat's first year if he needed 3 yards he'd lower his shoulder and get 4. Dawson had him sliding and in many instances just short of first down.

Look I didn't intend for this thread to be a personnel attack on him. I believe he is true blue and loves the University thick or thin. The point I was trying to make is this. Now as a member of the media he should put aside his fondness of Patrick and if he knows Dawson wasn't the problem last year he should give his opinion on why it didn't happen instead of repeatedly saying I know this or that without elaborating. IMO the discord between Pat and some receivers seemed obvious to me. Too many times Patrick would throw passes that put the receivers in real risk. Crossing routes where he'd hang the ball out in front and high would get them killed all the while Dawson telling him to slide and avoid contact. Some might argue that's the receivers job but the QB can certainly make it alot easier by placing certain passes in strategic locations.

Knowing no more than anybody with a garden variety internet account, I take Lorenzen's comments in the past on Baker to be this...from an opponent's point of view, I thought your WR's dogged their routes when Towles was the QB to force the decision to cut bait and insert their guy at QB. You can ask anybody whose ever been in any huddle from high school through the NFL...if you're a running back and the offensive line doesn't want to block for you, money, booze and chicks or just flatout exceeding on your own without blocking are about the only avenues back into their good graces. If you're a QB and any one of the O line or WRs don't want you as their guy...you're DOA. When your OCoordinator sticks with that guy that the huddle doesn't want taking the reps...chaos is sure to ensue.
This is spot on. Personally, if Baker gets demoted to 3rd string, I wouldn't mind one bit. He dogged it last year.

is Jared a member of the media? or just an occasional podcast contributor, or radio show guest?

It is a free country, while I dont agree with his negativity or downcast outlook on the team presently he should continue giving his opinions. Even if he says things I don't want to hear I loved him as a player & still glad he is a visible part of UK football. Having alums surrounding the program & involved more & more is a good thing even if they are saying unkind predictions.

This theory is good and all, until you realize Baker single handedly kept them from losing to EKU...and a loss to EKU surely loses the starting QB job...

I agree with the other side of your post though. The offense didn't have confidence in Towles or Dawson - and reasonably so.

A lot of dogging of our sophomore leading receiver as well...a guy who would carry tacklers, lay blindside blocks and do some impressive things. If you've ever been inexperienced and on a team that sucks, you can lose yourself and your attitude. It happens.

Be happy he carried us to avoid the most embarrassing loss in school history.

Gran and Hinshaw are so more qualified and competent than either Brown or Dawson,by any measure. Their approach to scheme, discipline, and accountability, will result in a more efficient, successful offense, which in turn will help the defense and overall team morale! Wait and see!

I think Jared put a lot emotionally into the team last year and had his spirit broke. It's easier for some people to go in to a season with low expectations and be surprised.

He isnt alone with the Baker disdain...how could you watch his lack of effort last season and not be. JARED having played at UK was probably particuly annoyed at that
Why did the coaches keep playing him? It's on them if he didn't give effort and stayed on the field
