Yup, we lost out on so many good players. The ones we didn’t get are all killing it. That is concerning.24 and 6 in a Win vs Miss State

That’s probably some of it. But the main problem, if it’s a problem?, with getting the top 10 type guys is the system.Mark is going to have to shorten the roster next season. A lot of misses were likely due to being 10 deep in the eyes of these players. Calipari even said it after 2015, it’s always used against you in recruiting. He said for 2 years he couldn’t recruit worth a damn due to that. Ball dominant guys who score aren’t going to commit to a team that’s said to be 10 deep. want to know why we ended up not getting Ament, who likely would have been at UK? That’s likely why.
It’s now a compounded problem as Oats and Golden have both mentioned Kentucky better be good this year and built this team up we can’t miss. All about recruiting. Same reason oats wanted people to think he was asked to come here by Kentucky. He wasn’t. But all of this is used to attack UK because we’re the threat in this conference to click at any moment and go 90’s on you.
All this to say, Mark can’t do this anymore. It’ll be used in bad ways and he’s still getting his feet wet, he can’t afford any problems. If we’re going to spend 20 mil, put the majority into some studs and get solid role guys. 6 / 7 deep, if they stay healthy, is the best way to go. Creates less tension and makes the team closer. I would love to go 20 deep but it’s just not feasible.
"boring ugly and effective"That’s probably some of it. But the main problem, if it’s a problem?, with getting the top 10 type guys is the system.
Those guys simply don’t want to be seen as system players.
Pope needs to focus on getting the next level guys, either from high school or the portal, that fit his system.
Izzo is a perfect example. He doesn’t get those guys either since he’s a 100% system coach and everyone knows it.
He recruits to his system. It’s ugly, boring and effective.
Pope wants to recruit like Cal but play like Izzo.
That’s not a viable combination in today’s game.
We didn’t have depth until he signed some portal guys. The pg1 was wide open to a few guys. Pope can’t sell it because he doesn’t have much success with pgs. We desperately need to add a rondo or a John wall to the staff to bring the elite guys. The problem isn’t being 10 deep it’s how pope uses his guys. He doesn’t play them 35 mpg. The key is getting target 1 at pg especially. Finding a back up pg will never be a problem see AberdeenMark is going to have to shorten the roster next season. jq was the yaxel backup plan, mo was the mgbako, wilson, ament, magoon backup planWe basically were told no by all of our first choices save maybe for JQ and Mo

If Pope can’t get his top choices next year, it’s just going to be the same crap as this year.Mark is going to have to shorten the roster next season. i think one of the insiders a month or so ago said there was a non zero chance we go into next year with no incoming freshmanIf Pope can’t get his top choices next year, it’s just going to be the same crap as this year.
For some reason he just can’t get any of the guys he’s vying for. Gillispie had an easier job getting 5 star players and he didn’t have an NIL to work with.
Just have to accept that as long as Pope is coach, you’re not going to get the best of the best. You won’t even get the second best and many times the third best either.
I don’t know what that means or if he can change it. Maybe if he makes staff changes? I don’t know. He’s got a lot riding on getting Stokes and or Collins. Miss out on both of those in addition to a underperforming year and I don’t even know why he even comes back next year. Just to be an even bigger disappointment?
That’ll pee off boosters throwing ridiculous amounts of money for the team.i think one of the insiders a month or so ago said there was a non zero chance we go into next year with no incoming freshman
well i mean over 80% of the top 75 is committedThat’ll pee off boosters throwing ridiculous amounts of money for the team.
It doesn’t even seem like we’re going after top 50 guys. If Pope loaded up on 4 stars I’d have some idea of what he’s doing.
So we’re going to be relying entirely on transfers again. Hopefully we aren’t dealing with a bunch of guys leaving at the end of the year.
Where do you chicken littles come from?If Pope can’t get his top choices next year, it’s just going to be the same crap as this year.

heres my OPINION, the GUYS next year should be (jj,hawthorne, chandler, moreno, and whatever 5 star we bring in) make that 80% of your production, and dont do the whole balancing actEarly prediction that simply comes from looking at the roster, no inside information:
IF this team gets back to business and turns this around (big if, I know) and winds up in 4,3, 2 seed category, I wouldn’t bank on us going heavy in the portal this offseason the way some fans probably are hoping for. One thing that people rarely mention is how young we really are as a roster. We have Oweh and Aberdeen as Seniors. We have Garrison who’s a junior technically but looks like he’s still a freshman. Lowe is injured (Junior). Quanintance (Sophomore) is certain to be NBA bound. Other than that, here’s your rotation:
Chandler (SO) - Solid starting role next year
Williams (SO) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year
Dioubate (JR) - No idea what the plan or expectation is there.
Moreno (FR) - Solid starting role next year
Johnson (FR) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year.
Hawthorne (RS FR) - Unknown but high potential, wouldn’t be shocked if he was a rotation player a year from now
Noah (SO) - Solid rotation player next year
Jelavic (SO) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year.
Lowe (JR) - Solid starting role next year.
Collins is a guaranteed at minimum rotation player.
Now, obviously not every one of those players is returning, but there will likely be a ton of guys returning that are already set for rotation spots and certain ones, if they return, are going to start. I know some people won’t be happy with that, but I’d go ahead and mentally prepare for that. I, for one, am excited about the prospect. We may be able to go all-in an absolute portal stud rather than trying to fill in all these spots because what we should return is massive. That’s my two cents based on what I’ve heard from Pope and assuming he has the plan I’d hope he’s put together.
Not mind-blowing saying that. If insider said it was likely they wouldn't get a freshman that's a different story. Either way, guessing they'll get at least 1 freshman like Collins.i think one of the insiders a month or so ago said there was a non zero chance we go into next year with no incoming freshman
bro at the end of the day its denzel aberdeen, we keep trying to make these guys into players they aint, and i give full credit to pope for thatNot mind-blowing saying that. If insider said it was likely they wouldn't get a freshman that's a different story. Either way, guessing they'll get at least 1 freshman like Collins.
Also, are people just ignoring that Aberdeen was a top option as a combo guard?
As of now, there’s still strong possibility we will have Collins. I’m not sure what the “balancing act” means but if Pope has shown one thing for sure over his career is he’s going to play ten guys. That’s not going to attract certain players. If I were a coach would I play ten? No, I wouldn’t. I do think that’s something he’s comfortable with and if we return the amount of guys we want, you can expect Collins to be in that rotation with all the returners. Pope sat in an interview on BBM presser and said we don’t need the number one high school player. I don’t know if he’s correct or not but there’s some method to his rationale. He wants to build a “sum is better than the parts” system the same way Hurley and Wright did. Whether his coaching acumen will allow that to reach maturity —- that remains to be seen. I absolutely trust the roster building strategy, and I wish fans would wait it out and see what comes of it. It’s so foreign to us doing it this way, but it is proven.heres my OPINION, the GUYS next year should be (jj,hawthorne, chandler, moreno, and whatever 5 star we bring in) make that 80% of your production, and dont do the whole balancing act
He had 36 pts 7rebs and 7assists yesterday with 0 turnovers!bro i found a dude om wisconsin we were in on, nick boyd, and hes averaging 20
We must be positive, we mustn’t point out any flaws, even if that’s all there is right now. I’ll be positive if we go 2-0 next week. Otherwise, what’s the point?Where do you chicken littles come from?
I agree with you about “be positive”. We haven’t seen much this season to be positive about. However, giving up on the coach and burning everything to the ground is where I’d encourage people to wait things out before jumping the gun.We must be positive, we mustn’t point out any flaws, even if that’s all there is right now. I’ll be positive if we go 2-0 next week. Otherwise, what’s the point?
I’m not talking about playing the amount of people in the rotation. I’m talking about roster construction. Did you completely skip out on reading where I said I wouldn’t have a 10 or more rotation if I were coaching?wym "but its proven" i doubt theres any other schools that plays the amount of players we do for that small amount of time
call me crazy but even if we lose to unc and gonzaga i dont think we should worry, unless we lose by like 20 againWe must be positive, we mustn’t point out any flaws, even if that’s all there is right now. I’ll be positive if we go 2-0 next week. Otherwise, what’s the point?
You have to have 1 alpha atleast i mean we gotta bunch of guys who are decent ball players thats it! Everyone of our guards have a weakness except maybe chandler.....Lowe can't guard ya with a gun and a badge ,OO can't dribble, Aberdeen is streaky pretty close to being good all around (little eractic) maybe cut down on bad passes . JJ i haven't seen enough of him to figure him out yet,but I don't view him as a PG either and thats the problem we only have one PG.Mark is going to have to shorten the roster next season. A lot of misses were likely due to being 10 deep in the eyes of these players. Calipari even said it after 2015, it’s always used against you in recruiting. This whole season might ride on Kentucky’s performances this December. I certainly think if we don’t do well in the SEC that the tournament committee will look at this month as the reason to keep us out. I’m hoping for 6-0 but my head is saying we probably go 2-4 or 3-3.I agree with you about “be positive”. We haven’t seen much this season to be positive about. However, giving up on the coach and burning everything to the ground is where I’d encourage people to wait things out before jumping the gun.
They make no sense at all. Just listening to it is hard to fathom being that dense. Can’t recruit but got top players in class and one of the top transfers in the county lol.Not mind-blowing saying that. If insider said it was likely they wouldn't get a freshman that's a different story. Either way, guessing they'll get at least 1 freshman like Collins.

Depends on the context, but there are very few scenarios where that shouldn’t be worrisome.call me crazy but even if we lose to unc and gonzaga i dont think we should worry, unless we lose by like 20 again
The UNC game may serve as a must-win in terms of seeding. If you drop games early, it puts you behind the eight ball. I agree we are in a tough predicament but there’s a whole lot of ball left to play. This whole season might ride on Kentucky’s performances this December. I certainly think if we don’t do well in the SEC that the tournament committee will look at this month as the reason to keep us out. I’m hoping for 6-0 but my head is saying we probably go 2-4 or 3-3.
Heading into the SEC with 5-6 losses with our opening conference game at Alabama who blew us out last game will certainly be depressing.
I don't feel JQ had a lot of choices. We basically were told no by all of our first choices save maybe for JQ and Mo
Dent isn't doing great at UCLA, and Xavian Lee at Florida is shooting around 20% overall and about 19% from 3 with about 7.5 3 point shots per game-seems we dodged a big bullet here. They make no sense at all. Just listening to it is hard to fathom being that dense. Can’t recruit but got top players in class and one of the top transfers in the county lol.
Don’t know if he’s going to work or not but what a load of BS. Just because it’s not working right now doesn’t mean on paper it wasn’t a really good class and really good recruits. This is all hindsight nonsense.
