You fuckwads are jumpin’ off the Clays Ferry Bridge in November. Talkin’ about if Pope should even come back next year if we miss out on a top recruit. Smdh
If he misses the tournament with a $20 million roster it won’t be me making the decision on Pope’s future. It also won’t be Mitch Barnhart’s.

But the possibility of going into next year without any elite prospects should certainly be concerning. This year was supposed to be Pope’s breakout year. Now we have to wait possibly another two years for Pope to get “his players” because he missed out on every recruit he wanted this year? The portal isn’t end all be all. He has to have some kind of consistency. Every successful program is still bringing in high school recruits to go with transfer players.

At some point you have to give it a rest. If Pope is going to work out, we’ll find out this year, not next year or the year after that.

He’s only lost 2 games and has a whole 6 more games this month before going into conference play. He can still turn it around but recent games against less than stellar competition has hardly given me much hope.

Here’s to hoping he turns everything around by next Saturday by going 2-0 this week…

It's November, and surprise, surprise, our point guard and 5 star Center are out. Do you have a clue about the dynamics of a team and the role of a point guard? Just check out what happened to the Bengals when Joe Burrow their de facto point guard got hurt. Their offense was like a ship without a rudder. They went from 2-0 to 3-8. Now that he's back, they're sailing smoothly again. When our point guard returns, we'll see a significant increase in production. We've got three months of basketball left before March Madness, so try not to lose your cool.

Excuses fit in good with card, unc, Tenn, and Indiana fans. We shouldn’t miss on any recruit we want period! Are you saying Kentucky isn’t the program elite recruits should go to? Yea it’s early in the season but we should definitely be worried about games we need to win even without our top pg or center. We could really miss the tournament this year if we don’t get it together sir. I’m so tired of hearing from fake *** fans that there’s nothing to worry about and we’re overreacting. Do you understand the game? Our defense is **** and our offense is a bag of ****.

That’ll pee off boosters throwing ridiculous amounts of money for the team.

It doesn’t even seem like we’re going after top 50 guys. If Pope loaded up on 4 stars I’d have some idea of what he’s doing.

So we’re going to be relying entirely on transfers again. Hopefully we aren’t dealing with a bunch of guys leaving at the end of the year.
Stokes is the best high school player and we are highly expected to land him. The concern is his attitude.
Are schools backing off of him(if the rumors are true)?

I’m not talking about playing the amount of people in the rotation. I’m talking about roster construction. Did you completely skip out on reading where I said I wouldn’t have a 10 or more rotation if I were coaching?
Many coaches use 10 or more players early in the season to get an understanding of how the players play.
Once the season moves to conference games, the rotation gets shorter.

And you know this how?
because we were told by many sources months ago that we were trying to make caleb wilson our forward for this year, if not him than ament, and if not ament then we would look in the portal for a forward, and the first one we pushed to commit was mgbako, and he went elsewhere so we went for mo

Again, I agree wilson was a priority. But how do you know our coaches thinking on ament and mgbako? You actually view mgbako as a miss? 'Many sources', lol, okay.

Agree on wilson. Ament, you and i were not privy to their conversations, right? We got 2, actually 3 highly regarded forwards. My guess, which is as good as yours, is that Ament wanted more of a guarantee on minutes and shots. Pope, probably not liking demands, moved on.

yes, that's probably why we decided to move on, MY question is, if ament is as good as hes been, why would pope not meet the demands since hes a gamechanger

Early prediction that simply comes from looking at the roster, no inside information:

IF this team gets back to business and turns this around (big if, I know) and winds up in 4,3, 2 seed category, I wouldn’t bank on us going heavy in the portal this offseason the way some fans probably are hoping for. One thing that people rarely mention is how young we really are as a roster. We have Oweh and Aberdeen as Seniors. We have Garrison who’s a junior technically but looks like he’s still a freshman. Lowe is injured (Junior). Quanintance (Sophomore) is certain to be NBA bound. Other than that, here’s your rotation:

Chandler (SO) - Solid starting role next year
Williams (SO) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year
Dioubate (JR) - No idea what the plan or expectation is there.
Moreno (FR) - Solid starting role next year
Johnson (FR) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year.
Hawthorne (RS FR) - Unknown but high potential, wouldn’t be shocked if he was a rotation player a year from now
Noah (SO) - Solid rotation player next year
Jelavic (SO) - Solid rotation player at minimum next year.
Lowe (JR) - Solid starting role next year.

Collins is a guaranteed at minimum rotation player.

Now, obviously not every one of those players is returning, but there will likely be a ton of guys returning that are already set for rotation spots and certain ones, if they return, are going to start. I know some people won’t be happy with that, but I’d go ahead and mentally prepare for that. I, for one, am excited about the prospect. We may be able to go all-in an absolute portal stud rather than trying to fill in all these spots because what we should return is massive. That’s my two cents based on what I’ve heard from Pope and assuming he has the plan I’d hope he’s put together.
We need to cut Lowe loose especially if he doesn’t play again.

In what way?
I think if anything Popes offense may be too open and non restrictive, imo. I believe too many players have the green light to shoot . He’s always touting how he wants to “shoot 30 threes a game “ , but to do that, there are going to be a lot of bad shots and bad shooters attempting them . At least with THIS roster.

I don’t like small point guards, but I’d go ahead and pencil him in if he wants to be back. My predictions weren’t based on everything I prefer but what I think it’s most reasonable. I’ll expect Lowe as PG1 for 2027.

The shooting woe conversation could be overblown. We are shooting right at the percentage (within 0.6%) UConn and Florida shot to win natties the last two seasons. Waiting to see if we have turned the corner there.

I’m not saying it’s not reasonable, just that if he is made of glass his deficiencies already worry me and we should get another PG.

Me too, bro. I really hope we go heavy at a big combo guard that CAN take PG1 if something happens. We have zero luck with small guards and the pessimism in me says that won’t change with another year. We are cursed.

Ehh, we won’t have Mitch a few months from now and fans will have the same complaints. I one thousand percent don’t agree with Mitch’s “every sport has equal value” stuff but he also catches a lot of blame for things that aren’t specific to him or originate with him. Bookmark this comment and come back to it in two years. The same fans that blame Mitch for everything now will be blaming the next AD. I wasn’t on this site during the Calipari era but I’d bet a million dollars the same people who can’t say a single good thing about Pope couldn’t say a single good thing about Calipari. And those people will be the same way the next coach, the next AD and the cycle will never end. And most people will never scratch below the surface.

Yeah, people were real mad about Calipari his first 6 years here. I get that he probably should’ve at least won another title, at least that’s what fans probably think, but let’s not pretend that the Calipari from when he was hired was the same as the one who left the last 4-5 years of his tenure.

But cry me a river, it’s hard to not see that Mitch Barnhart is on the bottom tier of SEC ADs when it comes to football/men’s basketball right now.

I’m not in favor of a lot things Mitch. I’m a basketball guy unashamedly, so I’m not saying “Mitch is great”. I’m saying we “blame Mitch” for any and every issue we see. I don’t need to remind that he is poor at contract drafting, was slow to NIL —- those are things we all are aware of. I’m just not going to pretend that having Jim Bob rather than Mitch fixes our basketball issues. NIL is at least competitive if not elite right now. Bookmark my comments and come back two years from now: You’ll have some alternative of “ditch Mitch” from the malcontents.

And yes, I dispute the notion that late-era Calipari was the same as early Calipari. I have no idea why you’d feel that way. Late era Cal was grumpy and his defensive coaching suffered as the college game became more efficient, which can be demonstrated with facts. Most people point to his offenses, but his offense didn’t fall off nearly as much as his defenses.

I could give Barney slack if he can’t find a good football coach. But you can’t find a basketball coach for the biggest college basketball program in the country? Retire.

To be fair, he couldn’t do it in 2007 either. And someone else had to hire Calipari in 2009.

We don’t know if he has or hasn’t. We are 7 games into year 2. This idea that we already know it won’t work is a greater deterrent to landing the elite coaches than people want to believe. If we genuinely want to land an Oats, a May, a Hurley or whoever, the best thing we can do is let it play out with Pope and market the best things about our fanbase not the worst things. Some things mean more than money to these coaches.

I wasn’t knocking Pope. I like him. Just mean in general. Pope could turn out awesome. But he wasn’t proven that’s for sure. I hope he becomes a coaching legend. Just don’t really see it happening. He’s super nice guy in a cut throat position.

We could if we would hire a real AD, the problem is the person replacing Mitch is exactly like him. We won’t have an actual search for a real AD, the ole boys club will fill right in.

The problem I see is the whole time I’ve been on the board people will blame things that have nothing to do with Mitch on Mitch. That’s why I say it won’t matter who the AD is. It’s kind of like the fans that watch a basketball game and no matter who loses the game or why, they’ll come back and say, “They just wanted it more” or “they didn’t play hard enough” or “so and so got outcoached” or “they had more talent.” If you press most people, they have nothing substantive to back that up with. Same thing for ADs. The thing is, those talking points get shared around and your average fan won’t think for themselves, ask why, dig further…it’s just, well this is what everyone is saying, so it becomes part of our collective belief. Make no bones, I can’t stand Mitch’s philosophy, but no AD would probably do what I want anyway, which is to go 100% on basketball and 0% on everything else, so I don’t even bring up Mitch. Why would I, at that point? No AD would satisfy what I’m looking for anyway. The next AD will be the same way.

If we won’t get serious about football ever then I agrees why put any money into it when we go out and lose 41-0 to a team who themselves already quit and were banged up with their best offensive players out?

Legitimately, even if we went all-in on football, we are still getting curb stomped by the other schools who go all-in on football. I see it as a complete waste of time. I haven’t missed a UK football game since 2002, including today’s debacle. But I view it as a luxury sport, just enjoy it for the experience. I’ve been to more FB games than BB games in my life, because I lived through the two win seasons and thinking 7-5 was the best thing of all time. Enjoy the ups and don’t get too down about the downs. That’s me as a football fan.
