It's going to be interesting to see what happened with the Crowe Jr. recruitment. I think everyone thought UK would be the school he would pick.

LOL ! Crowe is a terrible jumpshooter . You HAVE to be confusing him with someone else to have a take that bad . Chris Mullin type shooter , lmao !

Well like I said thats what I read and his lefty stroke looks pretty fluid to me. This seems like the Dillingham saga pre-UK to me, where he is asked to do to much.

How to get competing comparisons of being terrible to comparing to Chris Mullin? We'd take a Chris Mulin any day.

He shot something like 11-47 on three pointers in the Memphis showcase. He shoot’s around 26% for his entire career from three . I don’t believe he is being “asked to do to much “ , people I trust say he is just a gunner that isn’t very good at making outside shots . Now he is elite at putting his head down and getting to the rim and drawing fouls . That’s his game .It was whispered a month ago that CMP wasn’t as enamored with him as our fans were .

Exactly. He is nothing like Chris Mulllin . From what I’ve seen this kid is a career 26% three point shooter. He is elite at putting his head down , driving to the rim and drawing fouls . There is no comparison between the two . Shooting or athleticism.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but didn’t Reed have some pretty low percentages thru out HS, prior to UK, etc?

Also comparing someone’s shot to an older player is a lot different than saying they will shoot as well as that player. They have really similar looking shots. The comparisons as a player are to Jennings.

Left. Coast recruits rarely wind up committing to the cats wasted time and resources. Calipari. Proved this over and over again.
The only state west of the Mississippi River UK should recruit is Texas. There is enough talent in the South and East to field a championship team without wasting resources out there.

Of course there are exceptions.

From day 1 I’ve say Pope not keeping Antigua was a huge mistake. Hiring Jason Hart as your “recruiter” just made that decision even worse. Hart was talked up as some hot shot recruiter with connections but hasn’t done much of anything. Crowe was supposed to be his sure thing and he’s not even getting that now. Pope needs to cut bait and find someone who can actually recruit at the level needed here.

Yeah it's Hart's fault that Missouri might hire his dad.

On one hand I get that but on the other hand it’s not like he’s been landing studs besides Crowe. Antigua landed plenty though. Cal’s recruiting dropped off at exactly the same time as Orlando left. The Towns class was the last class recruited by Orlando before he took the USF job. It fell off while he was gone and then he comes back and we started getting top guys again. Plus the fact that he did not want to have to leave UK and kept showing up for work after Cal and the rest of the staff already left for Arkansas should have made him a no brainer hire.

Who has Hart recruited here for UK? If we whiff on his Godson, does Pope just move on with another lead recruiter?

I've been saying this for 2 years. If Hart can't deliver Crowe, he has no value to us. He would really have to land 2 or 3 great west coast commits. Cuz right now he's doing nothing for us.

How do you know he didn't help get all the transfer portal guys we've gotten the last couple years, to say he is no value to us is a pretty strong statement.

For me it's difficult to read between the lines in these HS recruit projections. I feel like some of them are positioning for NIL money, or at least their handlers are doing that.
I am confident Pope will continue to mix high quality HS players with experienced transfers. I personally like that model.
We've been to this movie before of trying to get all the 5* HS players and as often as not, they need more time or don't play team ball.

We are certainly loaded this year and I'm hoping that some of these guys come back next year. With the Nil money available, it may be attractive.

Just like the "PoPe HaSn'T wOn A tOuRnAmEnT gAmE" contrarians last year who were put to rest with our Sweet 16 run with a roster built from portal scraps, duct tape, and bubble gum by the end... The contrarians will continue to say that "PoPe CaN't ReCrUiT 5 sTaRs OuT oF tHe StAtE oF kEnTuCkY." And we'll have to listen to it, until he finally lands one. Do I care if we ever land another 5 star HS player, no. I don't care what rating some site gives a kid. There are plenty of underrated, high character, hard working, system fits that went on to be successful in both college and the pros. And with the advent of the transfer portal and NIL, you simply don't need all the best talented incoming freshmen. You need guys who buy in completely to what you are trying to do, are character fits, and fill a role. Sometimes that means taking a 5 star guy, sometimes that means getting a portal stud with conference, tournament, and weight room experience. All that to say, I hope Pope lands his out of state 5 star this cycle so this narrative ends and we can move on to other sky is falling criticisms.

In general I agree, we have had great California players but we also have missed on a ton or had them leave early.

Might as well say Larry Bird type shooter. Seriously though on Mullin, he was one Hell of a player. Had a lot of Larry Bird to his game with court vision and passing. Chris Mullin would give us #9 for sure
