Guest host with Adnan Virk. Thought he did a pretty good job. Very candid about his life post injury, opioid addiction, drug use in the NBA ect.

Talked about his beef with Jalen Rose in Chicago also. That was pretty good.

enjoyed hearing him

Shoot. Sorry I missed that. Anyone know where I could get a rerun?

That addiction thing is so real and people have to keep talking about it so it's not as marginalized and others are encouraged to get help.

I'm interested in knowing the overall tone and outcome of the Rose beef. I think Rose was criticized too heavily for his "Uncle Tom" comment in the Fab Five 30-for-30.( Well, maybe not too heavily, but from the wrong direction. He was talking about how he felt as a teenager. He might have done a better job of distancing himself from that opinion now before catching some heat for it, and he should have been aware of how inflammatory that term would be.) I would hope JWill's comments about their beef don't end up riling up past resentment of Rose among Duke fans.

Was his addiction pain med related. It amazes me how doctors and pain relief clinics are allowed to get rich off of over prescribed pain meds. My sister recently had back surgery where she was able to walk out on her own just a couple of hours later. Her doctor gave her a months supply of serious pain meds!

It is great that he freely talks about these issues.

You have no idea about the doctors and pain meds. I will not mention the city I worked for or dept. but I banged up my ankle fighting fire. I was out for about two weeks. The city Doctor that night gave me 800 mg ibuprofen. I refused because they mess with my stomach in a bad way. He agreed and instead gave me 30 percocet with 3 refills. All that for a rolled ankle.

I believe Mike and Mike has a podcast Dat. You can probably catch it there.
Pertaining to Rose the beef was more about Rose coming over from Indiana to Chicago and Williams being excited about being able to play with him then during a game (that Chicago won) Williams missed a couple of FT's at the end and after the game Rose called Williams a choke artist. Also JWill said that it rubbed a lot of players the wrong way that he was so open about marijuana use by NBA players. I'd really like to read Williams book. I think it would be really interesting. Williams did say that he and Rose are good friends now.

Rose was 0-4 vs Duke, never received the accolades of Laettner, Hill or J-Will & clearly resents that. Rose is a very intelligent guy but his disgust for Duke rises during interviews. But hey, kids wear baggy shorts & black socks - at least he's got that going for him.

Watched J-Will from the floor at MSG vs SJU in '01. It was a complete clinic. His regional vs USC & UCLA in Philly was unreal as well.

Good post. One of my all time favorite Duke players. We have no idea what he has gone through and I am so glad he perservered. The pain and rehab from his accident were enough to go through, let alone having to give up the sport you love, would be tough on any individual.
Proud of you Jason, keep up the good work.
Go Duke!!

Unfortunately, I do know a bit about Drs and pain meds. Fortunately, not first hand. Significant heroin problem in my area with substantial fatal overdoses in teens and young adults. Kids get hooked on pain pills that someone steals from mom, aunt Mable, Grandma, etc. and sell/pass around at parties. Can't afford to buy them on the street so the only thing they can afford is heroin, which is the cheapest high out there.

Going off this it was interesting how JWill described his decision in his book. If you look at THR, K is the devil because he refused to let JWill go to the NBA. I got banned over there for saying they spin everything the wrong way on K and writing an excerpt from his book about how K always has the best interest of all his players and what not. Also that leaving for the NBA before he got his degree would crush his parents.

They really believe what they make up over there. As the old saying goes you can't fix stupidity. They really believe Coach K is evil, faked the injury and back surgery back in 95' and faked this recent illness. OFC

They believe anything bad about K or any perceived negative about Duke. And there is never, ever another side to the story. Ever.

Take for example the Indiana game this season where the IU player "bumped" or accidently "bumped into" Coach K. Naturally, I think every Duke fan knew right away when they showed it that UNC fans would crucify him for it. No big deal....I totally get it. But if that had been a Duke player bumping into another coach? We know what would have happened then too. Then the Duke player is a punk.

UNC fans, specifically on message boards, are just wired a little different. It's really bad with Duke, and probably the worst with us, but they have issues with everyone. They hate everybody who threatens them in any way. I mean, really, who do they like? They hate State, hate Kentucky, can't stand Creighton or Kansas, have an issue with just about every announcer unless he went to UNC, they belittle South Carolina, recruits who don't pick them, handlers, etc. etc. The list is endless and I could go on and on.

Again....they're just wired different.

It's just sad. I mean I used to read there board out of pure enjoyment, especially after we won the championship. I let a lot of those posts go about K being evil and the devil and what not but they just make so much up it's unbelievable. I stood up for K one time and get banned by posting facts right out of JWills book. It's one thing for us to make fun of Roy saying HOF Coach Roy or nana puddin and fun stuff, they honestly believe that if players leave Duke earlier than K wants he will either kill them or talk to every NBA exec to hurt their draft status. I mean the garbage they say about a man is insane. DJ I wouldn't say they are wired differently, some of those posters honestly have issues, especially when it comes to Duke/K.

Those morons on THR are full of ish. Dsouth, gunslinger, and especially Gary. That ruhtard Gary doesn't know a damn thing about recruiting but he's actually got folks over there that believe what he says. Folks with any sense know Gary, as well as the others mentioned, should not be takin seriously.

To be honest, our recent championships (2010 & 2015) were due mostly to the easy draw we had in the NCAAT. How do I know? I read it on THR.
And the payoff of the refs. I mean Zoubek had at least 13 fouls not called.

there are a couple of different summaries of what he said earlier ITT
I should have been more specific with my question. What all did Jay say in reference to K telling him not leave school early? Someone from THR quotes him as saying, "Should have let me leave." I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that - I'm just curious as to the extent of his comments regarding K suggesting he play another year at Duke.

Dukiejay you are absolutely correct in that they hate anything that dare challenge their perceived superiority. About the only thing you left out is that chapelheeled, steat, dsouthr, gary 7, and a hand full of others are complete ********. I know we can be tough on them but about the only other thing we don't like other than them is UK when they rag on us and Maryland.

I've been trying to find the podcast on my iPad for the last hour and can't find it. I'm kind of curious too. Because in his book Jay says nothing of the sort....and quite the opposite, actually.

Oh he said something along the lines of he wanted to leave after his sophomore year but coach K convinced him to stay. I didn't think he meant it as malicious or a slam toward Coach, that's just those idiots at THR spinning crap. Really nothing to see here. Unless Gary7 is going to tell us about the next 5* to comitt to unc, then I'll hang up and listen.

I sprained my ankle jogging this past Saturday. I stepped in a pothole in the dark and went down hard. Tore up my hands and forearms, a knee, and a hip. (I've run every day since anyway, dragging a leg behind me, basically. My running streak is now at 2,968 consecutive days.)

The SRO at a school I work at sometimes saw me limping and gave me a sample packet of this miracle cream he sells on the side out of the trunk of his patrol car. One of the ingredients is emu oil. My ankle is improving rapidly despite my continuing to run on it, so...

There's also a $20 tube I can return to him unopened if it doesn't work... I think I better just pay him for it and buy another tube every month for the rest of my life, in case it's a shakedown of sorts.

It's been a while... I shall now regale the board with a refresher course on my Official Theory of Fanbase-Size-to-Douche-Percentage Ratio. Hang onto your hats...

All fanbases have their extremist, hotheaded, d-bag fans. However, they do not have equal %s. In smaller fanbases, such fans do not develop in so high a % b/c they are not insulated by the size of the fanbase. The small fanbase fan w/ douche-like tendencies is more likely to be challenged and checked on his or her early douchiness, thus impeding full d-bag development. In larger fanbases, early douchehood has the advantageous environment of layers of insulation from those challenges, and their d-baggery is allowed to flourish and reach its full potential, like sea turtle hatchlings in the comfort of a sandy nest. Hence, larger fanbases have a higher % of douchy fans, or fanatici douchorama, as they are known in scientific nomenclature.

Here endeth the lesson. There will be a test... for the rest of your life.
