The kid is going to be a lot better player, then he is getting credit, he will be in the NBA one day.
I think he'll end up a level or two above Amile just based on leaping ability alone. That and his body might get heavier more quickly. They're just different players, with the same great attitude.

I do see a bit of Moe Harkless in Javin's game, if anyone remembers him out of St. John's. Similar athleticism, can stretch out to the three, body type, etc.

I wanted to bump this thread because I had a question about this young man. Watching his mixtapes, he seems to have the range and athleticism to be a wing, but most here seem to have him marked down as a PF. What do you guys think is an accurate classification of him?

From everything I have read/watched (recruiting articles & mixtapes) I don't believe he has the ball-handling ability to play the wing. However, he should be a 4 year player, so who knows what his game will look like in year 3 or 4.
I am very excited about this kid down the road. He is Oozing potential.

His motor is off the charts and he has some nice skills as well. He is a 4 or 5 position wise at Duke for a couple years. Until he cleans up his other skills like was mentioned by jwill. He needs work on his ball handling and the physicality of the game is always an adjustment for freshman bigs.

I am excited to have him and he is going to be getting GREAT experience just in practice next season. Going against Amile, Giles, Vrank, and everyone.

This is the "sleeper" of the class. As mentioned about his motor being off the charts but what really sticks out is how fast he is developing as a well rounded player. If he comes in at 225 he will have Amile like attributes (not experience) and his ceiling is way up here. There are some recruiting experts who see him developing into a "Brice Johnson" type player

This is what I like to see! Just look at my mans work ethic.

By watching this video I think this kid has the potential to be a hybrid forward for Duke his Junior and Senior year, polish up his ball handling skills along with a outside shot and he will be able to play the 3 or 4 position.

I like the Brice comparison. You gotta remember, Brice didn't start until his JR year, which I believe would possibly be Javin's first chance to start.
Brice did put up 5.4 ppg 3.2 rpg his freshman year, which I don't see Javin doing, mainly due to how loaded our roster will be next year.

Playing styles appear to be very similar though.

Just think if Javin had decided UNC was his choice he would have instantly become a 6 star prospect and in the top three prospects in the country with the potential to be the @ draft pick in the 2017 draft and well on his way to being one of the top 50 players in NBA history but now he is just a Coach K project.:D OFC
Wonder if Roy thought of throwing in Coke and Nanner puddin. Probably not, if so, he woulda committed.

I would personally love to see this kid and Jack White red shirt and get stronger for the 2017 season. They both seem to be super athletic and long. These kids could be the backbone for Duke like Matt Jones and Amile Jefferson for a long time. Cause I doubt JMD will sees the court much this year especially if Bolden signs. The potential and worth ethic is there. Most importantly he seems to genuinely love Duke that is never a bad thing.
