I didn’t see this, but sure sounds like the reaction time BS that has been biting our guys on takedowns has seeped into nearfalls too!

That seems like an idiotic statement. Jax has already beaten Vito, Nashon Garret , Nathan Tomo among others. Would say he has the skills to beat those guys. Will be fun to watch

Sorry Mr. Forrest — wasn’t personal. I’m actually a big fan of your son — he just isn’t technical enough to beat the top 3 at the weight right now. Sorry if the truth hurts.

They better fix this reaction time BS by mid March. That's all I am going to say. At this point it's ridiculous. Guys are spending 4 seconds in control, with 2 or 3 seconds with obvious back points, and getting nothing, and it's happening to damn near everyone. There is not one coach or fan at this point that's going to accept this **** in Cleveland. This is an issue. Right now.

Mesenbrink is going to annihilate Lockett. No way can Lockett keep up with the pace Michell will set. I can see Dee getting a td or 2 even but over the course of the match it won’t matter much. Mesenbrink pushes for a MD I think

That is closer to the truth for some of them than you know.
I traveled there for work one time, somewhere outside of Valliant. My co- workers told me I could stay at the house they rented, which I thought was cool. Then, we started traveling to the middle of nowhere, had to go through several gates, across cattle guards, to a cabin in the middle of a field. So, I have some familiarity.

I just watched the match and did not think Seidel held Jax in near fall criteria for two consecutive seconds (not counts, per the NCAA Rules Book) in either situation. I think two factors are often at play in potential near fall situations that can skew opinions. First, I think some fans think of 45 degrees as basically anything less than 90 degrees. Also, if a wrestler gets beyond 45 degrees, even momentarily, the count stops and doesn't start again until 45 degrees is met again. You see this often when the defensive wrestler is flopping back and forth across their back. Add to that factoring in reaction time as to when a TD is awarded and subsequent near fall criteria counts should begin just adds to the issue. And finally, most of the time the referee has a better view of any potential near fall criteria than those watching in person or remotely, with the caveat that some referees are sometimes slow to get in proper position.

What in the heck happened to Merrill? Didn't he destroy everybody in high school?

Merrill not looking that great really helps us stave off their challenge 2-3 years down the road. They’ve got 3-4 nasty, young talents who are going to score big points, but need to fill out the gaps.

Another thing that will help us is if Ross goes to football. If he stays healthy and wrestles, he could be another huge point scorer.

I don't think we need any help. I hope Ross concentrates on wrestling and Okie State puts a great team on the mat. That 2018 Ohio State team was damn good and I would like to them get a challenge for the title of "BEST" second place team ever.

Such a sharp contrast between Seidel, Jax, Davino and Marcus. Seidel and Jax love to open it up, as does Davino against lesser competition. Marcus is great at controlling a match and finding his way to victories in tight matches. I am wondering if the weight will play out at the NCAA tournament like the Dake/Taylor matchups? Taylor always had the great offense, but Dake was just better positionally and at controlling the matches. As far as styles, I liken Marcus to Dake and Seidel and Jax in particular to Taylor. I would prefer to see Jax and Seidel see each other again at the NCAA tournament as they are both dangerous wrestlers. It will be interesting to see how this weight shakes out with the conference championships coming up. Add in Byrd, Frost, Ayala, and Larkin and 133 is going to be one fun weight to watch!

Seems like another factor in staving off OSUs challenge a few years down the road is DT’s decision to have all his true freshman go this year.

Not likely to be addressed mid-season.

Seidel lost that match, Jax didn't win it.

Yup. Ryder too. TDs just dry up after Lockett with that team and even Lockett isn’t an offensive dynamo
Frankly, I think DT will be openly recruiting the upper weights (not counting Ross at heavy). Also seems like Ryder could be a good case for a medical this year but DT will have a convo about never assuming your spot is guaranteed going forward.

Ayala has been having an off year, to put it mildly, let's see how he does with Jax?

Merrill is now 12-3 on the year. The 3 losses were by 1 pt to Endene, 1 pt to Sasso, and SV vs Elam.

But you're right, he had a ton more offense in HS. This year a 4-0 win is a blowout for him. Part of it is probably the cut from HS 220 to college 197. Partly being a FR against grown man upperweights. Also he has faced a pretty tough schedule this year.

Still, he has scored 3 or fewer points in over half of his matches this year. He's ripe for an early exit at nationals.

Was there something I missed with that takedown? It was as clear a takedown as any I’ve seen and MC even put his head down like he was frustrated he gave it up. What were the officials seeing?

He even awarded it and took it away, they did lose their brick on the first challenge that they should have won, but the reviewed it anyway and did not award it. That was terrible.

What is going on with Ryder, is it an injury or what?

Post purchase regret?

Here's why I'm not sold on DT yet.

Polishing up Hamiti or Hendrickson (who was lucky Steveson came back for a coronation, not competition) isn't the sort of development we've seen with Cael over 15 years.

Ryder
Facundo
Richie Figs. (what the hell happened there)

His body of work with M2 kids is enough for me. I think he's the real deal. They have the recruiting classes so we won't know for a year or two. If the kids become killers in year 2... Facundo is a better freestyler and I don't think he will ever AA, not a large enough body of work on Ryder. Figs took the money and ran.
