Cannon and kharchla are top 4. Stiles and Feldman may finish 6-8.
Cannon may finish top 4, but he’s ranked #1, which is overrated. I don’t see it with Kharchla. He’s been around for what seems like 15 years and has never shown to be better than low AA.

After eating and lifting constantly for football most of my life, I started competing in sports with weight classes after college. Two years ago, at 43yrs old, I got down to 160 for a BJJ tournament after having played college football ~245-250 (at 6'1"). The last time I had been 160 was about age 10. I walk around 185-190 these days. My BJJ professor walks around ~200lbs, but he fights MMA at 155.
Why?

If you want to be competitive in a weight-class sport, it's just the reality (as everybody here knows). As for why a middle-aged man, with a wife and kids, would do this for an amateur competition that has zero relevance in real life, that's a valid question I often ask myself. I enjoy pushing my physical limits, I don't think it is any deeper than that. Also, outside of my family, my social group consists primarily of people in combat sports, so it's just kind of what everybody does.

As for why I decided to cut a sh*t ton of weight after my football career was over; it's pointless to be that big for anything but football, it's expensive and a chore to eat to stay that big, and it's not good for your health. Look at former NFL linemen, they either become super morbidly obese or drop like 100lbs. shortly after their career is over. I prefer the latter.

I was gonna post the exact same thing, but then again I started doing Ironmans at 55
I started doing combat sports (mostly BJJ, but also Muay thai and full-on MMA) at 39, after recovering from a broken back (cycling accident). There's a few guys older than me in BJJ, it's something you can do forever if you're smart. In MMA, I'm generally 15yrs older than everybody. I also climb mountains. We all do stupid/irrational stuff, we just pick different stuff.

Intermat's Tournament Rankings heading into this weekend:

1Penn StateBig Ten142.51
2Ohio StateBig Ten119.52
3IowaBig Ten89.03
4Iowa StateBig 1282.04
5Oklahoma StateBig 1271.55

This is based on individual rankings. They have Forrest #15, which will obviously change. For PSU: 2 Lilledahl, 4 Blaze, 3 Duke, 4 Welsh, and 13 Mirasola will all up before nationals.

Also this does not include PSU's extra national finalist, Bonus Points.

PSU needs to lose the equivalent of 3 national champs + a runner-up from its lineup for OKST to catch up.

Adding Forrest gets them a Top 4 trophy -- but they might have gotten that anyway with Iowa booting 4 Endene and with 5 Kueter at risk of not qualifying.
I believe OkST is top 3. Iowa is done. ISU will slide to above mediocre

I dont think Iowa is done... I think they have some guys who will do well come tournament time
125.... Dean Peterson will most likely AA
133... Drake Ayala... should AA... albeit that is a stacked weight class and he is struggling He has been there and knows what it takes
141... Bailey... should AA.... if not he will score some points
149.... Block is not an easy out and should give them some points in the tourney with the potential to upset someone!
157... Williams is quick with solid Defense.. if he can stay healthy he has a shot to score some points for them
165... Caliendo will finish top 3-4 depending the draw
174... Patrick Kennedy should be an AA or close and / Gabe Arnold could be an AA at 74... if he gets in shape!
184... Angelo... 2-4 range
197... This is a miss (they should keep Kennedy at 74, move Gabe to 84- angelo to 97- this would give them the most points in march)
hvy... Kueter... Should finish 5-7... so another AA

They have the potential to score some points in March ...
they could have 7-8 AA is they wrestled well at tourney time....

at would leave them third behind PSU and Ohio State... and Iowa State following up at 4th
they seem to underperform at NCAAs recently though but make no mistake if this team got hot at the right time... they can still make some noise!

Honestly, every time I watch until like 165/174 they all look like tiny people out there. It's hard to think adult men are able to be that small. Makes for more fun wrestling but still, I'd have to cut a leg off to make 165 probably ha

Hamiti never took a RS. Wyatt is still wrestling at OKST this year, just as an RTC athlete not on the D1 team so they maybe could have done that
We'll never know, but I'd be skeptical of USAF approving a redshirt for Hendrickson. He competed for 4 years at AFA and before that grayshirted at Air Force Prep. That grayshirt year would likely have been seen as his redshirt by USAF.

He's currently training under the WCAP. Still USAF approved, but different requirements and authority chain outside the Academy.

The DoD bureaucracy being what it is, Hendrickson's request to transfer outside the Academies, for a 5th year that never before existed, while maintaining active status and fulfilling his obligations ...

Have you been paying attention?

Flo rankings. Iowa is trending in the wrong direction. They are more likely to finish in 9th than 3rd. This is without bonus points, mind you. Does Iowa strike you as a bonus point machine?

How tall are you? That's crazy. I'm 6'3 but my brothers 6'1 and couldn't weigh more than 165 if he had to where as if I go below 210 I look like a string bean.

Ok St is going to finish 2nd. Just wait until tournament time. DT is going to have them looking like the overachieving bonus point machine that we were accustomed to seeing 10-15 years ago. The only difference is that there was no Penn State standing in our way from claiming titles, so DT is going to have to be happy with 2nd instead of 1st.

I went from playing football to competing in powerlifting, so my initial cut was to make 204lbs. (about a year later). Focusing on powerlifting, even with a 40lbs. cut, my maximal (1rm) strength slightly increased. After a torn biceps, a few years later I started competing in triathlons; dropped down to ~170 and did almost no strength training for several years. I couldn't even tell you where my strength was then, but it certainly wasn't good.

15+ years and multiple injuries (broken back, torn RC/labrum/biceps) later, today my strength is fine for what I do. My training is primarily focused on grappling specific strength (a lot of pulling/carrying/grip-focused stuff ) and improving my gas tank so I can roll multiple rounds and climb mountains. I can still deadlift >2x bodyweight for 5 reps, but I don't do any conventional back squats or bench pressing.

So...I don't really know because my focuses have changed so many times over the years.

If Lehigh stays healthy they could have 3 guys in semis and probably 2 more kids that could flirt with AA.

Iowa rarely does 7 or 8 AA tournaments. 5, maybe 6 AAs is more likely with very few bonus wins.
Peterson maybe
Ayala is someone who shoukd be a definite, but is a huge HEW maybe
Bailey, doubt
149 and 157 are no
Caliendo yes
Kennedy has had enough of Brands and isn't guaranteed to have his heart in it
Ferrari is a solid bet
197 is a no
Hwt is a low maybe
My guess is 5 AAs: Peterson low AA, Ayala low AA, Caliendo second or third, Kennedy middle to low AA and Ferrari lower AA. A team trophy is most likely not in the cards for the Bob Nicolls run Hawk program this year.

When you're playing a college sport and maintaining 245lbs. you eat everything you can get your hands on. I just switched over to a simple whole food diet, cutting out all the ultraprocessed stuff. So, it was all proteins (chicken breasts, cans of tuna, whole eggs, cottage cheese), tons of vegetables and greens, limited fruits, and little grains and starches (like a single small baked potato or cup of rice per day). Never had to count calories and the weight just fell off.

It's a lot more difficult now at 45, especially when I sit on my duff 8hrs+/day for work. I'm very regimented, eating essentially the same things every single day:

First meal (~12pm): 3 eggs over easy (in a tbs of coconut oil), 2 cups veggies (usually broccoli), one small potato or 1c legumes, and fill the rest of the bowl with greens. 1 scoop whey protein in water.

Snack (3pm): 1 scoop whey protein in water, 1c berries

Dinner: 8-10oz. whatever meat we slow-cooked that week, 2 cups veggies, one small potato or 1c legumes or 1c brown rice, and fill the rest of the bowl with greens. A tbs of olive oil and hot sauce. Ic berries.

It's somewhere around 2400kcals and ~160g protein per day. We have family dinner with my parents every Monday, and my mom makes something fancy, but it's always some version of a lean protein and vegetables. I train in the mornings 6 days a week (plus Wednesday nights - BJJ with my son). I'll have a little concoction (my company's greens mixture, NMN, creatine, glutamine) post workout (~6:30am); it's only like 80kcals total. I'm at deficit to give myself a buffer because, like every human, I'll have a rough day at work or my kids will stress me out so I'll eat more while wife and I are winding down at night. Luckily we don't really have junk in our house, so it's spoonfuls of natural PB or more fruit or my wife's sourdough bread. I estimate this is another ~300kcals/day averaged over the course of a week. I've had a few points over the last handful of years where I see "200" on that scale, and I have to dial back in.

Cutting to 160 was F'ing miserable. Down to 1400kcals for 10 weeks, not keto but very low carb, and then spent the last few days slowly dehydrating myself. I looked like death and felt worse, but I did win gold. No interest in doing it again.

Probably more info than you cared to see.

I'm very dedicated to my diet: I eat 3 times a day

Breakfast: Coffee (black), 3 donuts (headlights)
snack: coffee (black)
Lunch: Double Qtr Pounder with cheese only ketchup, large fries, large coke
Supper: Texas roadhouse, 12oz sirloin med, baked potato, applesauce or salad ( 3 or 4 dinner rolls with 2 butters ), ice water
dessert: coffee (black)

I verified that Amazon makes the next size bigger in shorts/pants, no worries about not finding my size of clothes

Now, this is my kind of diet… salivating at the thought of the headlights.

Just my suspicion, but, wonder if Cole doesn't want to get too big so he can make 97Kg for WTT. I think that is 213 lbs, and he may have a shot at making US Team....feel like he is a strong candidate in Freestyle

Have you been paying attention?

Flo rankings. Iowa is trending in the wrong direction. They are more likely to finish in 9th than 3rd. This is without bonus points, mind you. Does Iowa strike you as a bonus point machine?

Rank Team Points Previous
1 Penn State 148.5 1
2 Ohio State 120.5 2
3 Iowa State 80.5 4
4 OK State 79 5
5 Nebraska 67.5 6
6 Iowa 59 3
7 Lehigh 50.5 9
8 NC State 50 7
9 Cornell 49.5 8
They don’t even strike me as a point machine
