I went to the game. It was awesome! He had 27 at half time and they were up by 15. But the other team came back in the second half and got it to within 1. They had some very good players and plays too, including an alley-oop dunk to a 6'3"-6'4" guard that was pretty impressive. Jayson also had foul trouble which prevented him from playing too aggressive on D down the stretch which is probably part of the reason the other team (Kickapoo) was able to mount such a comeback. Normally, every shot he's close to gets rerouted, but he let a few get off to avoid a possible foul call. But in the 4th quarter, He slowly started taking over again. What's as impressive as his talent is his demeanor. The kid's got humility.
And to those who are mentioning UNC, they actually did want him and offered Jayson a scholarship, as well as about 10 other schools. But he chose Duke. Duke recruited him harder than UNC did, and he apparently fell in love with the Cameron Crazies when he visited. He chose Duke because he said it just felt like home, something that was important to him. In fact, his second choice was to stay local and go to SLU where his dad played. So you guys should pat yourselves on the back for giving him a good welcoming. It made a difference. And then of course he was instrumental in convincing his friend Harry Giles to come to Duke too, so you guys are really getting paid dividends on making an impact on your recruits. An honest hats off to you for that.
I'm not biased toward Duke or UNC either. I'm from Missouri and unfortunately, my home team (the Tigers) is giving me nothing to root for lately. But I also love following the local talent. I've always hated KU (it's a requirement as a Mizzou fan, just like true Duke fans are required to hate UNC), but I always respected Roy Williams as a coach when he was at KU. He seemed to sincerely care about his players, and of course he had another local Missouri player a few years ago (Tyler Hansbrough), so I casually followed them while he was there. But for the next year or more, I'll be tuning in to Duke games to root for Jayson and the Blue Devils.
BTW, interesting tidbit for those who didn't know, Jayson's high school team are the Red Devils, so he's simply changing colors.
