Do any Hilltopper followers have insight into the multiple Q1 offensive penalties?
It doesn't seem right that in week #7 you have numerous False Start and motion penalties early in the game.
Was the opposition screaming out the Hilltoppers cadence, was the signal caller out of rhythm or were these just mental lapses?
The unusual amount of holding calls on running plays seems out of step.
As this late in the season this stuff should be cleaned up, any insight would be appreciated.
I certainly wouldn't call my thoughts insightful by any stretch of the imagination, but here they are.
I thought the sudden spike in the number of fumbles, dropped snaps, unfinished tackles, un-maintained blocks and even the slightly mental movement penalties were mainly due to the sudden abrupt changes in our weather. This is no excuse because the weather was identical for all the teams, but I do think that it made for some very sloppy games compared to what you would expect in week 7 of the season.
Yesterday when I went outside I thought it was freezing and definitely thought "I'm not ready for this yet." and I think the players were of the same mindset and at times their total concentration was not on football but were distracted by thoughts of personal comfort. They will adjust, or they will perish as the competition gets stronger down the stretch.
I know a lot of what I said here was probably a load of crap, but it was my thinking yesterday while watching some sloppy football.
