And Benet will win next year too. JCA's Jr. class has extremely low numbers. But if I was part of the JCA rebuild, eliminating the losses to Benet is the first step to getting back to a more competitive level in the ESCC (presuming the merger does not happen next year). JCA won both games on the lower levels. Beat Benet in 2021, then continue to build from there. That is 4 in a row for the Red Wings over JCA.

I think your timetable for JCA needs to be a bit more ambitious. Next years group will not have much experience but will have more raw talent with a good group of juniors and sophs being brought up. They will actually have a passing game to complement the run. This years sophomores are a rapidly improving group. I think by the end of 2019 they will be playing excellent football.Completely agree. 2021 is the step back to competitiveness and maybe make a small run. 2022 swing for the fences especially if they get a good talent and numbers class of freshmen next fall.

They have a passing game because the coach calls for them. Coach snedeker knows how to mix the passes in with the run. They throw short and long passes. The varsity play calling keeps them from winning now. Never was more apparent then this week. Drives 3,4,5 didn’t have any passes. Not one. That totaled 18 minutes of just running the football. On the last drive, it was 1st and 10 from the ten of benet. He threw the ball 3 straight times. First pass of the 2nd quarter. Then passed the next two downs. Completely dumbfounds me. No mix. My point is, not sure no matter the talent, the play calling on varsity is predictable and not good. Play book is the same on all levels. You are spot on regarding the schedule. Look at Montini. They move to the CCL Blue and who shows up on their non-conference slate this year? Hyde Park and Christ the King. Where are some of the teams they used to play....like Maine South or ESL? They're gone, because Montini recognized they needed to adjust their non-con schedule in response to the upgrade in their conference opponents. It's the smart move.I hate to say it but it all depends on schedule. If we have rita, Marist IC, and naz again there is little room for error. If the cmc is reborn and we are in a more forgiving division, or if we stay in the ESCC, drop IC or rita, and add pats and mcc in place of two of the current opponents we can win a lot games even with a lot of underclassmen.
I say the same thing. Who in the hell would be afraid of playing JCA?? I laugh. I’ve been saying this and got roasted on here for it. The schedule is brutal and did them no favors. The attitude of yester-year is alive and well on Larkin. They live the ideals that because of thirteen state championships, they have to play great schools. Their not the only ones carrying on the big ego symptoms. The old time alumni also. It’s the reason they don’t change the offense or the defense playbook. It’s blasphemy. My opinion is you have to evaluate your team. Scheduling nonconference 6,7 and 8 class schools is too much for JCA at that this time. I will burn in hell for that, but I don’t care. They better hope realignment happens. If it doesn’t, dark days are ahead. I don’t care how much talent you have. Talent needs to be coached. Unless the talent can out perform bad coaching. Which I have seen done 3 years ago. You said it best on the tired mantra. JCA is who they are. Middle of the pack. They will continue to watch ND, Naz, Montini and benet, beat them every year unless the higher then tho attitude changes there. No one fears the brown and white when they look across the sideline any more. It’s reality. Better deal with it instead of saying losing is part of rebuilding and good for winning. JCA has never went through this since the 40’s. How many years must you lose to figure this out? Because after next year it will be 4 years. Good luck. Let the bashing begin. Let’s hear losing is good. Let’s hear everything will be alright. Let’s hear all the excuses and let the current regime continue to beat their chest and yell JCA is great. You ignore that this team has enough talent to win 5 games this season despite the schedule. But unfortunately there’s nobody to get them there on the sideline. Yesterday was proof for sure. I’m done ranting. Lol. So go ahead and tell me I’m wrong from a far. Hopefully you were at the game yesterday. You are spot on regarding the schedule. Look at Montini. I'd love to know who has final say for JCA's non-cons. Geneva and Wheaton No. fell off the non-con schedule, and they pick up Rita and IC? They got lucky in that Rita is down this year, and probably unlucky that IC is as good as they are. But, where is the realistic appraisal of JC's current standing in the ESCC? They are small fish. Why in the world do they schedule such a tough non-con slate? And, can we drop the tired mantra that it's so difficult for them to find opponents? Gimme a break. Teams haven't seen their recent record? How did Montini find those two less-than-stellar non-con opponents? Are we to believe Montini has an easier time finding non-cons than JCA? Again, gimme a break.

It's a good thing you said this and not me!I like Jaws but JCA had the chance to go outside the JCA family and get some new ideas, especially on offense. But AD/outgoing coach Dan Sharp wanted to keep the job in house, keep the JCA mafia happy so.....
Seneker is doing a bang up job with the sophomores perhaps he could be promoted to varsity offensive coordinator? They have a passing game because the coach calls for them. Too bad. His play calling against Marist was awesome. Had those linebackers on their heels. Threw short passes along with deep passes. Pounded the rock well too.He was on varsity for years and years. There is a reason he isn’t on varsity now I’d assume.
He was gone for a while coaching at Marian Catholic. Just came back to the program in the last few years. He was on varsity for years and years. There is a reason he isn’t on varsity now I’d assume.
I don’t think anybody has a personal problem with the coaches or Dan sharp. Great people in general. It’s the coaching aspect in question here. Your completely right about other schools passing them by. Pretty evident there. But on field decisions are not doing anything for the kids. All starts with coaching. Watching the qb run to the sideline for the play every down is down right rediculous. Is JCA the only team in the United States to do that still. Hurry up offense is crucial to a ground and pound game. Would of helped against IC and Marist game for sure. Maybe not wins but...... simple changes to an antiquated system would go a long way. Such a waste to a talented class this year if they don’t make the playoffsHere's the thing, tradition is hard to change when you only use in-house folks. They are great people, and there was a time when how they coached, was the unquestioned winning formula. However, the more successful they became, the more other programs needed to find ways to overcome Joliet Catholic. So, they began to use new formations, passing, true option QB's, etc. They blew by JC after a few years and now JC, is trying to catch-up, still using the old ways and old coaching. I fully compliment Dan Sharp on being a great human being and a legendary coach in his time. He also appears to let Jaws run the program, and that is a great thing to do as well. And, the team will win 4 games a year if it does not change the schedule and/or change the way it plays.
Adapt? Got to have change or do something different to say their trying to adapt. They are status quo if they would stop the qb from coming to the sideline for the play every down, would be trying to adapt. Just an example. The entire landscape changed for JCA with one word/team--Montini.
Montini deciding to put an emphasis on football changed the 5a landscape in a way that JCA is still trying to adapt to.

Even more comical when you're asking your QB to run the ball as well.No they are not. Just up the road from you Waubonsie Valley still does it. Sometimes it can be frustrating but also quite comical when they are on the far hash/side of the field and the QB is running a 200 yard dash round trip to get one play that turns out to be........ a Run up the middle!!![]()

What was controversial about the 2 point conversion? I don't recall. This was the 2009 game, right?EVERYTHING changed for JC in the first Montini championship game. And I'll be more specific. JC was up 14-0 going in to make it 21-0 and put the game out of reach early. But, as has been the issue for many years now on critical plays, the JC RB fumbled, and the ball was recovered by Montini, and the rest is history. Yes, the two point conversion to end the game has been controversial, but JC put themselves in the position to lose, not win. It has been downhill in games that matter ever since.
Yep. The question was whether the MCHS player actually was in the end zone with control. I'm not saying it was/wasn;t. My point was JC should have won the game and had it in hand. After that, life changed forever. What was controversial about the 2 point conversion? I don't recall. This was the 2009 game, right?
Agree 100% with this. Especially when you only run about an 8 play playbook. Should be able to come up with a different system, quarterback probably runs an extra mile throughout the course of the gameAdapt? When did the play book double to 8 plays????? I missed them. LolAgree 100% with this. Especially when you only run about an 8 play playbook. Should be able to come up with a different system, quarterback probably runs an extra mile throughout the course of the game
What puzzles me is the following year. You had Josh, Malin, and Ty in the back field. Then proceed to loose in the quarter finals. That had to be a very tough day for JCA fans.EVERYTHING changed for JC in the first Montini championship game. And I'll be more specific. To me, that loss to Peoria Richwoods, was the worst loss in JC history. My wife and kids were afraid to get in the car and drive home with me.What puzzles me is the following year.
