Jeff Goodman questions whether JQ should even come back

I feel like expectations continue to rise for JQ and the public assumption is he could be the piece to turn this season around.

While I'm sure he's a good player, I think expectations for him will be higher than his contributions if he plays.

Hell he might not try either. Who knows.
Nobody with half a brain thinks one offensively challenged post player who is an elite defender is going to “turn the season around”.

Doesn’t work like that. He not being paid a dime to play.
But it does, these dudes are absolutely paid to play. These deals they sign aren’t worth that money. If it was strictly Name and image those million dollar tournaments wouldn’t be legal.

Why risk reinjuring yourself for a team that might not even make the tournament?

If you’re guaranteed a lottery pick, I’d just enjoy the free money and healthcare. It’s not entirely JQ’s fault he was recruited while injured. Pope knew what he was getting himself into when he signed him up. Pope’s a smart guy, he should be familiar with the phrase, caveat emptor.
He is old enough to have watched the Brady Bunch so I'm sure he is familiar with the phrase. Now stop sanding that rust. It's the only thing holding the car together.

Sitting out makes a lot of sense for him …IF you remove the NIL issue from the equation. The dude’s lottery draft stock appears secure, and he risks jeopardizing that if he joins this dysfunctional team while still rusty from rehab.

BUT he’s reportedly being paid a couple million dollars based on the premise that he’ll play this year. That ain’t gonna sit right AT. ALL. if he backs out on his end of the deal.

Goodman is right. I had hope he would play but no can blame him if he doesn’t. This is an absolute disaster. I don’t see any way to fix it. Sad Time Being a Cat Fan!
Yes they can blame him! He is being paid now, he is an employee. The expectation is that he should play asap. These aren’t broke kids anymore. There is responsibility that comes with being paid as much as these guys are. It may be pointless in your mind, but he owes the school to try. If they didn’t think he was ever going to attempt playing, they would never have given him the money to begin with. Gawd I hate that some people have this mentality! Like UK should just be okay with handing out 2 mil and get nothing in return.

It really is pathetic.

And Goodman is an ******* for even floating this. Why put this out there? Just twisting the knife

At this point we should be discussing the possibility of Kentucky not even being good enough to make the NIT.

Barring some kind of miracle, every loss gives us the likelihood of a losing season.
If the Cats enter conference play 7-6...and I think that's a real possibility...maybe even the most likely scenario at this point...I honestly think a losing season is exactly what will occur.

If he’s physically ready to play and refuses to do he should be kicked off the team and the reason should be made public. I’m guessing his draft stock wouldn’t look good if he’s the guy who takes a paycheck bur refuses to play.
Pope knew that his not playing was a possibility when he brought him in. If JQ is smart, he will stay seated.

It should have been a consideration when he was offered. IF there is a chance a player wont play, don't bring them in.

He is getting paid to play..if he refuses, then you he has to be kicked off team and not get paid
He isnt getting paid to play...uk does not have him on a payroll. He's getting paid for his image.

Thats like saying an actor has to act in movies or retire because they made money from a magazine ad.

Honestly, he probably shouldn’t and it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t.

Said in another post that Pope took a chance on a couple of guys with injuries and it didn’t pan out. Going forward he cannot do that anymore. The best ability is availability.

To be fair Cal took some chances on guys with injury history too.

Just not a fan of it. Especially guys who are league bound. They’re thinking about the next level. There is no reason for them to even try and risk it.

Then, in this day and age, injured portal guys are weighing whether or not they play or sit out and get another year.

I think Goodman is wrong. He's projected as a late 1st round pick. By June Draft (if he didn't play) he would not have played in 15 months. That's a lot of rust. Especially for a guy who still had not shown much of an offensive skillset before he got hurt. If I am an NBA team, that's a lot of risk for potential.

Interesting approach to life. Take what you can get and play victim. “I didnt know”. Do any of us really know what we sign up for in life. But the people who make the world better don’t think like this.

Seriously. They are getting paid to Play . Anyways...he wouldn't have an nil deal if he wasn't on the team. So if he won't play, kick him off team. You can call it NiL all day , but we all know it's not.

Just saw that JuJu Watkins is not going to play at all this season.

She hurt her knee about the same time as JQ. Maybe a little later?

She reportedly makes more in NIL than he does too.
