I mean how they spend 14M on this average roster
Their current roster looks like a bubble team
As long as they are coached by Radio UNC won't be making any noise.
14 isn't out of questionThese numbers are nonsense. Nobody is spending $14 million or $20 million on a team this season.
Yep. He just said that’s what a UNC blog reported.Goodman doesn’t know what these numbers really are. He’s just regurgitating hearsay
Imma laugh my *** off too, if he’s a bust ..Caleb Wilson must have been expensive!
Texas in football this yr supposedly $40 million I think I readI would not be shocked if those numbers are somewhat close to accurate. We are playing to win at UK, just like UNC. Just like Ohio St in football. The passion brings out the big money.
He went on to say say Kentucky has spent $20 million without citing the UNC blog.Yep. He just said that’s what a UNC blog reported.
Spread over 85 players with the majority going to NFL prospects on their roster.Texas in football this yr supposedly $40 million I think I read
Exactly.I don’t understand the shock and surprise some people have when these numbers are thrown around. Or the outrage some feel toward the situation.
There are people making billions in this country who love their sports and love the university they attended. Them throwing millions (pocket change) at their favorite team/school and it’s top sports is not only believable, it was expected by most who know how this stuff works.
I’m curious who they are paying huge money to outside Wilson, Veesar, and Stevenson. The foreign guy probably was a relative bargain, 2 other guys who weren’t big names. They lost all their wing scorers from last year and big money guys. They paid Seth Trimble and Kyan Evan’s?Exactly.
14 million is keeping them in the ball park of the other blue bloods. and that's us.
I'm kinda laughing though....
I'm looking at that roster and thinking "this is all 14 million can get ***UNC ???"
am i the only one thinking and laughing at this? hahahaha I mean, cmon. Caleb Wilson isn't THAT good. None of the others are either. After the mass departure of the sunk ship, I am sure Davis will be crying to have Bubba back on the good old boy selection committee again NEXT YEAR too, ya' know .... ***just in case***
just in case, right ?
after all, 14 million might not be *enough*
Must be terrible because they didn’t get anyone last year either and their play hasn’t inspired any one either.$14 million for that roster? How bad of a recruiter is Davis?
Good analysis.UK is all in this season, idk how folks haven’t noticed. Let’s say 20 million is real, I don’t think it’s all that outrageous. Pope doesn’t want one guy making a crazy amount more than anyone else, I think all these dudes are compensated very well. No idea what anyone is actually making but let’s play the game:
Otega Oweh - 3.5 million - earns being the man as returning leading scorer, so no friction about him making the most
Jayden Quaintance - 2 million - big time prospect, but somewhat of a bargain given the injury.
Brandon Garrison - 1.75 million - seems he received a nice compensation package to not look around like many thought he would.
Jaland Lowe - 1 million - bit of a bargain risk play, he was like the 8th ranked PG in the portal. Obviously has big upside though.
Denzel Aberdeen - 1.75 million - I think UK had to have sent a big message while FL was waffling, which means a substantial offer
Mo Dioubate - 1.25 million - again, I think Pope went the no nonsense route with a player he knows can dominate in the SEC.
Jasper Johnson - 2.5 million - OTE player with social media buzz, already getting paid. I think UK had to pony up for JJ.
Kam Williams - 1.25 million - I think w/ Williams being the first commit he may have come on for around 700k-800k but has had the pot sweetened since then to keep up with the rest of the team and his expectations based on draft projections.
Collin Chandler - 1 million - Respectful offer to a returning player expected to step into a bigger role. Well above market value
Trent Noah - 1 million - Again, can’t make that money anywhere else. Rewarded for in-state loyalty and being a returning contributor.
Andrija Jelavic - 1.5 million - Take the chance with a pretty sizable offer to keep competing offers from flying in late. I think this move proved that Pope had money to blow. I could be off on this one because I’m sure that’s way more than he’s making overseas
Malachi Moreno - 1 million - I think we got a good deal on MM being in on him early and he’s not seen as an otherworldly talent. He probably could’ve held out late and tried to spark a bidding war for his services and made more. Could end up at the top of the payroll next season.
Braydon Hawthorne - 500k - Didn’t seem like there was a crazy competition for his services despite being a late commit. I don’t think we spent big for him, there was no reason to overspend at that point. Unless I’ve overestimated on all these and Pope got him because there was still millions sitting around.
Reece Potter - Free - I doubt there was a compensation agreement here. Probably an understanding that there will be opportunities to earn some money and that the residuals alone of being on a top 5 team would be 100x what he would’ve earned at Miami (OH).
I doubt anyone is free. Porter probably got slid 100-250k.UK is all in this season, idk how folks haven’t noticed. Let’s say 20 million is real, I don’t think it’s all that outrageous.
