The most impressive thing about James Holzhauer's game is that he hardly ever misses. He's gotten 27 questions wrong in 22 games. That's what separates him from some of my other favorite players from this generation like Roger Craig and Alex Jacob, who employed similar strategies of focusing on the high dollar questions and hunting the daily doubles. All those guys were equally quick on the buzzer, but none have done it with the accuracy of Holzhauer, and that's why their runs only lasted 7 games. They were Nolan Ryan. He's Nolan Ryan with Greg Maddux control.
Here's the other thing about Jeopardy that the average person probably doesn't know unless they tried out for the show. You can't buzz in right away. Alex reads the question, then there's a split second pause, followed by a light flashing on the board. If you buzz in before that light flashes, you get locked out. It's a difficult rhythm to get used to, trust me on this.
With that in mind, using James's last game from 2 weeks ago as an example, he buzzed in 43 times. He got 43 questions right. The other two contestants combined to buzz in 17 times for 13 right answers. While it's possible that the other two people sucked, 43/43 with that timing system is absolutely insane even if you're playing by yourself.
When James loses a game, it will be because he misses a daily double early in Double Jeopardy and also misses Final Jeopardy. The way he plays, I don't know if anybody can beat him straight up. It's going to have to be his fault. Or he's just going to bet against himself and lose on purpose like UNLV did to Duke.
