I can hold my own with James with the right categories...zoology is a weakness for him, it's one of my strengths. My weakness is literature. Used to watch game shows with my mammaw as she baby sat me, and we'd play. Soaked up a lot of trivia as a child. She was great. Gave me my first beer at age 3. Soaked up a lot of beer too. Well...for a toddler.

This guy is Sheldon like in his ability to recall so much so quickly. Must be a genius, photographic memory, eidetic memory. Just amazing. Plus his gambling attitude and strategy of going for the high dollar clues first.

The most impressive thing about James Holzhauer's game is that he hardly ever misses. He's gotten 27 questions wrong in 22 games. That's what separates him from some of my other favorite players from this generation like Roger Craig and Alex Jacob, who employed similar strategies of focusing on the high dollar questions and hunting the daily doubles. All those guys were equally quick on the buzzer, but none have done it with the accuracy of Holzhauer, and that's why their runs only lasted 7 games. They were Nolan Ryan. He's Nolan Ryan with Greg Maddux control.

Here's the other thing about Jeopardy that the average person probably doesn't know unless they tried out for the show. You can't buzz in right away. Alex reads the question, then there's a split second pause, followed by a light flashing on the board. If you buzz in before that light flashes, you get locked out. It's a difficult rhythm to get used to, trust me on this.

With that in mind, using James's last game from 2 weeks ago as an example, he buzzed in 43 times. He got 43 questions right. The other two contestants combined to buzz in 17 times for 13 right answers. While it's possible that the other two people sucked, 43/43 with that timing system is absolutely insane even if you're playing by yourself.

When James loses a game, it will be because he misses a daily double early in Double Jeopardy and also misses Final Jeopardy. The way he plays, I don't know if anybody can beat him straight up. It's going to have to be his fault. Or he's just going to bet against himself and lose on purpose like UNLV did to Duke.

The one guy a few games ago only lost by $18. That game was freaking close. I need to go back and watch that one.

My strategy would be to hem and haw and act like an idiot if I had control of the board. Anything to disrupt his rhythm and shorten the game.

I would still get whipped but there might be a way to set him off

Just finished tonight's show. Great game. James was a little off his game tonight and missed a few after batting 1.000 in the last two games.

Nate was an awesome challenger though, but made one mistake the entire game and it cost him. He got the first Daily Double at a good point of the game, bet it all like he should have and nailed. Then he got the second Daily Double at a GREAT juncture but the wager was pretty soft. James took control of the game right after that.

Holzhauer has only missed 1 final Jeopardy question during his run. That’s ridiculous!!

I'm just enough of a "conspiracy theorist" to wonder if the Jeopardy crew didn't have this guy in their back pocket to send Alex, who has announced his cancer diagnosis, off with a bang.

Broke the $2M dollar mark tonight. Competitors were absolute dog **** tonight. One of them didn't even make the final, and the lady only had $1,800 to work with.

Same thing on Wednesday night. One person didn’t make it to final jeopardy, and the other only had about $7k compared to his $40k.

No questions missed in single or double jeopardy tonight. All three contestants combined to go 58/58. Final Jeopardy was super easy. No other details given.

The guy comes off as a really odd bird, but he is the sharpest I've ever seen on the show. Heard a message from Alex yesterday. He said he was still feeling okay, continuing his therapy (?) and preparing for next season.
At least he seem optimistic.
Knowing what I know about pancreatic cancer and the probabilities, if I had it, I'd have other ways to spend my days than going to work.

I’m with you on this. No one has beaten pancreatic cancer, and Alex won’t either. Perhaps Alex wants to go out doing what he’s done for decades.

Can someone please post how much James won today since GDCSMFing WPSD-TV cut in just before final Jeopardy to talk about a GDCSMFing thunderstorm in the armpit of the United States, otherwise known as southern Illinois.

As always, TIA.
Local weather bs is absolutely infuriating. Especially since...uh, well, you can get up to the second weather info on your phone or IPAD.

When were the episodes that are on now filmed?
I think I read they were recorded in February.....long enough ago that his fate is known. I mean, I suppose it's possible he's still going...

Here is an answer provided by (allegedly) Ken Jennings dad at quora.com that provides a little insight:

"Ken was the only contestant at that time (and probably still is) who was still playing at the time his first game aird. Before Season 20 ended in June, the first few weeks of Season 21, to be aired the following September, had already been recorded. Ken had long ago run out of cute little stories to tell during the interview and he and Alex Trebek were both ad libbing and having some fun with it. So, in May or June when they were recording the first show scheduled to be aired the next September, during the little interview, Alex Trebek asked Ken, “So, what did you do over the summer?”

There is no beating it. An old guy I grew up fishing with died from it. The rascal tried to fish up to a month or so before he died. I've never seen anyone that loved to fish like he did. He was in a hell of a lot of pain. It withered him away to nothing.
