I cant jump on that train yet. He's got three possible coaching changes on his hands. Thats a lot to navigate.
While I agree, he should’ve fired Maineri last season which would’ve left him with 2 possible changes. So, I think the name fits so far. 2 coaches that everyone else fires, he kept them both.

And to do what? Promise more NIL $$? The fans shouldn’t come within 100 yards of that arena for men’s basketball next season. Save your $$. Might as well keep the NIL funds and double for whoever the next coach is in their first season. Paris is a proven loser. 5 out of 9 seasons with 20 or more losses. That’s freaking atrocious.

I wonder what those extra 5 or 6 million could buy for our football team.

Yeah, it's like owning a house that needs a new roof, a new HVAC system, and a new septic tank all at the same time, but only having the money to do one this year. There's no question all three are needed, but you're going to have to figure out which is the most important task to handle right now.

let's wait and see if a change is made after the conclusion of the baseball season has concluded, if the season goes as badly as many fear. I think retaining Paris for a historically bad program to restore a program that was once at the pinnacle of the sport, might be a tradeoff worth making.

Those CWS appearances are getting smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror. Carolina fans' view of SC baseball as an elite program today reminds me of UGA football fans before Smart arrived clinging to the memory of that 1980 national championship.

Georgia still was still occasionally winning the SEC and going to BCS games before Smart arrived.

Our baseball program is dogshit right now.

Or you have raccoons tearing up exposed flexible HVAC ductwork. You have to get the raccoons removed before you can repair the ductwork. Maybe I'm bringing personal baggage into this. Nevermind. 😄
Purely a hypothetical, I'm sure. :)

People criticizing Donati need to get a grip. He is playing the cards he was dealt. I love basketball. Some of us were around to witness the heyday of the McGuire years. Nothing has come close to matching that excitement in any sport here to what Big Frank generated back then. But football is still THE sport and money maker here. IF Beamer flops this coming season, don't you want the money saved to buy him out before Paris? Donati has been here only one year. The years to buy out either Beamer or Paris were each a lot longer. As the late great actor Gene Hackman signaled to his boys from the bench in the movie "Hoosiers", be patient. If I recall correctly, those boys went on to win the state championship.

I think Donati needs to be fired immediately. He is being paid big money to right the ship. He's doing nothing. This is the SEC. His time is up.
Yeah! Fire Paris, buyout be damned! Fire Mainieri, his buyout can't be that much. When Beamer goes 5-7 next season, fire him and pay his buyout!

Then, hire a bunch of new coaches who will elevate SC men's sports to their rightful position in the SEC, middle of the pack. The money for all of this should be no problem, simply ask the loyal, supportive fans to give more. I'm sure the fans will open their wallets and do whatever it takes.

We are on the same page. Money should never get in the way of our path to mediocrity.

I disagree. In fact, I think he's very smart. USC was dead last in the SEC for men's basketball in its NIL budget, so he's looking to add to that to give his coach an opportunity to correct it. If you hire a new coach with the same money, the results will be the same. By the same token, if you fired Paris, who do you think could get to come here that is worth a damn? Outside the state of SC, USC men's basketball is seen as a dead-end job because of it's lack of history (nobody cares about the glory days in the ACC). So, you're probably hiring another mid-major guy or an unproven assistant coach from a Power 4. I think he is correct to give Paris one more year (also because the buyout is heavy, and then you have to pay that PLUS whatever you pay a new coach which makes no fiscal sense since you are trying to raise revenue for NIL.

For football... Beamer is one year removed from a 9 win season, so firing him this year would have been stupid. Beamer made a splash hire with this O-coordinator, so yes, next year will be the hot seat there too. And the buyout goes down significantly.

Baseball - definitely not firing a coach after one bad year. A colossal bad year at that. However - same thing as men's basketball. Buyout is too big when you're trying to raise revenue for NIL, and it is still very early this season. If this year sucks, then when it's over, yes, you make a change. Mainieri has 2 big problems IMO: 1) The 3 years he was out of college baseball were the most transformative in college sports history, and he even admitted he didn't realize how much "older" baseball players had become. Gone are the days when you get a bunch of freshmen and develop them. You have go with almost all older transfers. 2) The other problem was he was forced to keep Monte for year one. Clearly, Mainieri and Monte have different offensive philosophies, so Mainieri should have let Monte go after last year and find someone else who aligns with his plan and let the chips fall where they may.

Underlying all of this are 2 facts:
1) NIL/Portal is still a big mess and the wild wild west that USC is struggling to compete in
2) Large guaranteed/buyouts for coaches need to change (not just at USC) so you don't get put in this position. The BOTs around the country need to get some balls as they are the ones that approve all hires and contracts put forth by the AD. (So if you're made about extensions etc., blame them too!)

We can't give our AD more time. He needs to be gone.

I think it was correct to give Mainieri a second season. Barring a substantial turnaround from what we've seen so far, I think he'll be gone after this season.

If Donati is smart, he's currently and quietly putting out feelers for potential baseball coach replacements. And budgeting for same. But dealing with NIL and this? 🤕

BOTs better be careful not to collude on getting rid of large guaranteed/buyouts. I agree that this needs to change,. but BOTs need to ensure there's no collusion and no chance of a class-action lawsuit.
