Ludington wins 2-0. Escape in the 2nd and stall point in the 2nd. Gunderson went neutral in the 3rd but was never close to scoring

Gabe looks like he is in great shape. Wonder if he is going to wrestle a match at civil war next weekend.

Gunderson UNI didn't wrestle til last 15 seconds. Ludington was in a few times on a single but Gunderson brought the hips.

Good win for Ludington, Gunderson was a u23 rep.
Yep, has never been a consistent starter for UNI, but has competed at both 197 and HWT in college.

As for the U23 World team he made in 2024, Gunderson went 2-2 and finished 10th at 86kg.

He also beat Nelson Brands twice at the Last Chance Olympic qualifier in April of 2024, so I was impressed to see Ludington actually look the far better of the two on their feet today.

I remember him kicking Nelson Brands butt in freestyle the summer before Nelson’s final year. He started as a heavy weight in college then cut to 97, so he’s definitely a full size 197. Good test for Ludington. I don’t think Tom is going to throw him out there against a veteran #1and#3 guy like he did with Angelo and once with Gabe, but hoping he will get a few more very challenging matches. Nothing wrong with losing to a superior veteran as a true frosh redshirting.

Difference is in those two instances, the redshirt was the better wrestler. Massoma gives us the best chance to win in the tight duals.

He should hopefully get a match against Massoma at the soldier salute and whoever else gets sent there.

Agree, but I’m sure Brands will find a duel or 2 to test him in. He’s most likely going to be our guy at 197 next year.

I would like to see him against Barr. The dual isn’t going to be close probably and it would give him a barometer for next year.

Would it be helpful for Mo to get a feel for him before big tens and NCAA’s?? Would be interesting to see if Ludington could keep it to a decision. He is a solid prospect, was #15 pfp by Flo as a senior, so not a sure thing like Angelo, but can develop into very good wrestler.

I would like to Peterson get a crack at the 141 spot in some duals. I just like how he wrestles better than how Bailey wrestles. I realize the talent isn't quite at the level of Bailey, but the effort is higher imo. I think Harvey is going to be a really good one.

Petersen does have a dominating freestyle win over Bailey in highschool.

I think he has a lot of potential, as do many top 20 pfp guys, but he’s not ready for a guy like Barr yet. Don’t want him to get humiliated in front of the home crowd like that as true freshman. I think this year of practice and another year in the weight room should have him ready to be a solid 197 next year, maybe even AA depending what the weight class looks like next year. Putting him up against one of the Ohio state guys or maybe Merrill would be a big test, but that may jeopardize those duels.

You act like we are throwing him to the wolves. He gets to go against the defending champ in practice. If he is ready...he is ready. If not he is not.

No. I’m saying we shouldn’t throw him to the wolves. But if TnT do throw him out in a tight duel they obviously are seeing something in practice that gives them confidence he has a good chance of winning. There has to be a few duels we will win if he doesn’t win that has a pretty good 197. He has had 2 dates, the SS will be 3, so that leaves 2 duels he can go in.

I don't think you mean "defending champ". Buchanan doesn't get to defend his title.
