Tressell is the President of Youngstown State. He's not going anywhere.

.. Now Butch Davis is one that needs a job.

Briles would be the best hire..
It is disappointing he is one of the least likely people who end up here (due to Mitch).

He may not want to touch this job, which is understandable

Need someone young hungry and with head coaching experience.
Sounds good... But, how many young, hungry, Head Coaches, that we would want (have shown some level of success) would consider coming here???? IMO, the only potential hire would be Brohm. More than likely he goes somewhere better and we are going to have to pump the breaks on expectations. We will have to go with someone damaged, like a Petrino or Tressel and hope to get a few years out of them to get back on our feet. Then, 4-5years later, hope to make a HR hire that may stay around a while. Like someone else said, we have to just stop the bleeding first.

I actually like the Brohm idea the more I think on it. Flips the script a bit, given the curse of The Howard?

There will be thousands of empty seats 2016 and 2017 which one cost more?
empty seats >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Stoops buyout
Even with season ticket sales at their worse, UK won't have enough lost revenue from tix sales to validate a $12M buyout.

Lost ticket sales is one of many revenues that will be lost.
They will easily surpass his buyout.

Otherwise Joker would still be the coach.

Brohm just signed his own extension through 2019. If he comes here, expect him to treat UK as a stepping stone.

Hire him. He'll be on a short leash of course, but somebody WILL hire him, make no mistake about it. He knows how to recruit and how to win.

He's had problems with the NCAA. Who cares. Calipari had and still has a perception of being slimy to anyone outside the Bluegrass, and we hired him. And let's face it, Barney has destroyed our football program to the point now where we can't even attract a good assistant coach, let alone a successful experienced one. So let's swing for the fence and let's get a winning program back.

I even have a good slogan for it:

Jim Tressel. Because nobody else decent wants the job.

Is tressel openly looking for a coaching job?
He's currently the president of youngstown state. i'd love to see him at uk but he's 63 yo. he might be looking at retirement at this point.

Well gee, I guess Barney could go ask him.

But don't worry. Barney doesn't have a clue, so he won't.

Somebody should call Matt Jones' radio show and tell him to go ask him.
UK is a lot better job today than U of L was in 1985 when Howard Schnellenberger went there. It's maddening how people just assume no good candidates would want to come here. Someone has to actually contact them and sell them on it for crying out loud. Guys like Art Briles and Jim Tressel aren't just going to come begging.

I agree with this. Maybe you have to look at a lower level. I doubt a known P5 commodity will take the job. Who knows though. The facilities and fan support are there.

Petrino did. Holier than Thou MB told him to vamoose.

I'm all in on Art Briles. Dude knows he f'd up, apologized and knows the first team that calls will be his saving grace.

Mitch will need to be out of the picture for this to happen, so win-win for UK football.

As Ohio State's head coach, Tressel was known for a conservative style of play calling (dubbed "Tresselball"), winning games with just enough scoring, strong defense, and "playing field position."]Tressel often referred to the punt as the most important play in football.

Sign me up for that, plus the fact that he is President of Youngstown State and hasn't coached in five years.

There will be no new coach at UK next year. There's a $14M buyout if Stoops is fired after this year..It's not going to happen, nor should it. He was given 5 years to turn this program around. He should get 5 years..

Mods, can people just be permanently banned for ridiculous "should get five year" statements?!

In year 4, Stoops should be dominating his "cupcakes" and be able to go into Florida and maybe not win, but make it competitive

Come on people, THIS SHOULDNT BE HARD

No problem at all with Tressel's "baggage". He's a good guy, a class act. But he's in his mid 60's and, although he is a proven success, he did it a powerhouse. He would probably be another Rich Brooks here, which is fine, but that only stops the bleeding. To me, this would be like getting Phil Fulmer four years ago, who was right there for the taking.

He's got the talent here to be fairly successful. The one thing we can't knock Stoops for is his recruiting. He isn't the long term answer, but if he could show that you CAN win here, it would be enticing for the next coach.

You've seen the same thing happen at USC, only they didn't make the right hire when Spurrier left.
