From Gerald Henderson, "Basically, he was like, 'I look at you, you should play athletic, you should go to the basket, attack the basket, you should dominate the game defensively, too. You don't do any of that. …You're an athlete. You don't do anything athletic. The athletes I had, they dunk on people, they make athletic plays, they drive to the basket. …What are your ambitions, some of your goals when you leave here?'"

"I want to be in the NBA," Henderson told Krzyzewski. "He's like, 'Today, if I was an owner, GM or coach, I wouldn't draft you. NBA players, they do special things. I haven't seen you do anything special all year.'"

Coach K gets real.

At the Duke Coaching clinic years ago, K passed a comment which really hit home with me "uncomfortable conversations with coaches are imperative for achieving greatness. Everyone has to understand their weaknesses & work on them tirelessly." K referenced a conversation he held with JJ after soph year, obviously it worked with JJ as his junior/senior year were redickulous.

Coach K addressed the Crazies in Krzyzewskiville around 11pm the night before the 2001 UNC game in Durham. All I remember is the last thing he said, something like, "Let's kick their f#$%ing asses tomorrow!"

Life was great before cell phone videos. You can't get away with candid talk any more for fear of being recorded and used out of context...

A friend once told me about the first day of practice one year at Duke where he was sitting at the end of the bench away from the team. He and another guy decided to see how long it would be before Coach used his first cuss word.

Well, all was good for a while, but about three minutes in Coach gets all fired up and the expletives just start flying. Eventually he finishes his 'talk' and the players take the floor. Coach sits down next to my friend and the guy he's sitting with and they start chiding K about how proud they are of him. Annoyed, K asks what the heck they're talking about. So they tell him how they timed him to see when the first cuss word of the season would be, and how it lasted a whole three minutes before it came out.

Coach K's response? "I'm from Chicago and West Point. That's how we talked there. I am who I f-ing am." Everyone broke out in laughter.

Here's a couple of former players roasting K a little bit in good fun. I especially like Jay's impersonation...

I might go back and watch the whole thing in a bit, but I was waiting for Bilas to name that hand gesture. Maybe it was from an end-of-year banquet or some other roast, but I've heard Bilas call that the "gay karate chop." lol

Bilas really has him down.

Watching JJ, it really reinforces the BS behind the Hated Duke player. He is white. He played for Duke. He was great. That is it.

Bilas imitating K in the locker room at half vs Terps during FF giving his talk without swearing was priceless.
