Cignetti is a Pitt guy. Coached there for 7 years and was born there. Also some talk of a rift between his dad and Paterno? Enough $ can end a grudge though.
He's also in his mid 60s. He's a great coach, but how many years does he have to expend the kind of energy that it takes to run a program? Most likely, PSU would be looking to hire a new coach again probably in another five to seven years.

Never heard of Pete Nakos, but Marcus Freeman would be a big "get," can't argue with his success at UND, seems to be able to get his players to play. Those two early season losses this year were close ones. It'll be interesting to see what UND does at USC. Wonder if Freeman is being contacted to satisfy an unwritten "Rooney Rule." I just can't see him leaving UND for PSU.

Lea is an interesting choice, but Franklin came from Vandy...and Lea isn't doing nearly the job with Vandy that Franklin did.

All that said, given the close relationship between Kraft and Rhule, I think it's Rhule's if he wants it.

But Kraft should be fired if he doesn't give Urban Meyer a call.
Kraft should be fired if he hires Rhule.

I am ok with that. With the pressure on coaches to win these days I don't see coaches lasting 20 years at a university anymore. I kinda think that is what happened to Franklin. He is burned out and needed a break. If PSU was to hire Cignetti I would ask him to plan to groom someone to takeover for him for several years if possible.

I agree with you about Franklin. This PSU team obviously was vastly overrated, but after Allar threw that Int in OT, all of the air went out of the balloon with that team, including Franklin, and you could see it in his demeanor. I think that he knew that that Oregon game was a must win for the playoffs, because nobody is going to win at OSU, and both the team and he knew that their goals for this season largely were over. I believe that that was a terrible attitude to have (look at how Clemson has rebounded from a 1-3 start), but it's obviously what happened. With that said, this team would've struggled to win a lot of the upcoming games even if they had beaten Oregon.

As a long long long long suffering RU fan…please take GS…please! Put us out of our misery!
Not being a smart *** here but I doubt Schiano is your problem, RU might be your problem. Honestly recruiting players and coaches to RU might be a hard ask.

I was waiting for your take. More respect for you than 95 percent of the posters on here. i agree with you but no Drinkwitz. I would have Pat Fitzgerald as #4
I like Fitz as well but think we really need an offensive guy to maybe not smother the actual OC.

I wasn't for Drink either until late last night. Saw a video or write up that basically says he does everything with a chip on his shoulder and that is what we need. No matter if we like it or not, we are behind OSU, Michigan, and Oregon.....we need someone that will use that as motivation. Also, the more I read today, there was some separation between JF and Kraft due to Kraft just wanting to buy everything we don't have. Missouri relishes in the portal.

Cignetti ain't coming. Hartline will listen at least. My issue is that everyone on these lists that people want, won't be available until February and that's WAY WAY too late. The hire needs made in early December and not to a guy who won't arrive until February
Hartline would be free to leave earlier. He isn't the HC.

Edit: Although, if OSU has a real chance at repeating, Hartline would want to be a part of that.

Oh god, this guy claims to have an inside source who said Rhule is the guy, and if for some reason it doesn't work out then it'll be Matt Campbell.

Chris Fallica now saying Joe Brady will be in the mix - former GA, but also notes the Pegula/Bills situation.
Kingsbury or Brady would be home runs IMO. Someone mentioned it yesterday with regards to Brady, hard to image Pegula would be thrilled about that. He is the one with ties to the school though.

How much of Brady’s success were in years when he had either Josh Allen or Joe Burrow. Thats always been my concern with Brady.
He seems to me to be another Josh McDaniel. Somebody like him isn't going to be able to restock this roster like Cignetti did at IU, which PSU is going to need if it doesn't want to go through two to three seasons of medocrity or worse.

D'Anton Lynn needs to get serious consideration. He is the real deal and just a matter of time until he is leading a team

Lynn needs to worry about managing the USC defense to respectability before he worries about a HC position.

He's already doing more with less talent than $3.5 million dollar man Jim Knowles. The guy that you said was gonna lead the defense to a national championship
USC is 51st in scoring defense (per game). And 62nd in yards allowed/game. 101st in passing yards allowed per game (and that's where he focused his coaching before becoming a DC).

Wow. All these names on these lists and you guys hate them all 😂😂😂😂😂

How about Marshall 23? Lots of experience, never has seen a coach he didn't love, and every coach he has ever seen is infallible 😂😂😂

Yep. Pat is on line 1 right now with Marshall

We should kick the tires with Urban and Kiffin. I am not a big fan of either but the days of student athletes and success with honor are long gone. If Urban is interested then you gotta interview him. Yeah there is a risk he could do some dumb thing that could be embarassing but I am betting he is over that and learned his lesson. Kiffin has matured as well.

Meyer for sure, Kiffin...definitely 2nd on the speed dial, but yeah, maybe worth a call. He seems to like Southern schools.

The final choice will be neither of those guys, I'm afraid, so I don't think it really matters.

Kiffin hasn’t matured at all. He was just trolling Franklin 2 weeks ago, re-tweeting a negative article regarding Franklin and recruiting after they lost out on Keegan Croucher who committed to ole miss

The names being bandied about should be a sobering reminder that, perhaps, this was a hasty decision.

Nobody there has a meaningful postseason win. Nobody there inspires any confidence of a better trajectory ... perhaps Cignetti, but he's HIGHLY unlikely to come here.
It may be hasty. But he did have 12 years to show everyone that he could pull an upset on occasion. That didn’t happen. It’s time to move on.

It's a very uninspiring list.

There's a reason smart parents don't rush out to buy their small children a new toy each time their precious lil pookums says they're tired of the toys they currently have.

Jim Knowles figured out during the Spring that Franklin’s recruits on defense aren’t very good.

Wonder what Bill-O is doing these days. Seriously, PSU's never had a HC who was an offensive genius other than the brief time with Bill-O. How about young Jerry Neuheisel. Good offensive mind, players love him, I bet he'd be a fantastic recruiter at PSU.
