Why stay? He has zero chance to win a NC there. An ACC championship is even a stretch. What’s the fringe benefit you can knock off a top team here and there at your Alma mater which won’t have any real impact because of other games you’ve dropped or take the top job that’s infront of you, the pay increase, increase in resources, a step up in conference play and chance to really make deep play off runs. Seems like a no brainer to me.

My point is that he might be, unintentionally. Given his record in big games he's not proven to be any better than Franklin, but the AD may overlook that if the Paterno people vow to open their wallets for Rhule. So we hire him on the promise of investors, and there's a huge risk we find out he's got the same issues Franklin had with getting over the hump. Then you get rid of Rhule and are in a better position financially for the next guy because the stadium reno is complete and paid, Franklin's buyout situation may be under control, and the Paterno people are more supportive going forward because you gave their guy a shot.

Who is we? PSU fired CJF for poor performance in big games and losing the team in the middle of a season. Pretty simple. Who he's replaced with is irrelevant at this point, though I don't think it will be either of those 2.
