Yes, many tried to help him overcome some bad breaks and not so true people in his life. In the end he thanked people and said he was going to drink and be a good old boy : haven't followed him closely since. ...He emerged in the PGA as the first true long hitter as an alternate. He was phenomenal; Nick Price withdrew to be with his wife for the birth of their child - but gave John Daly his caddie ( Squeaky, I believe ). John won; it was incredible. Later it was revealed as he won 5000 in a mini tour event shortly before; despite struggling ; when he visited the charity burn unit for kids before, I believe he donated most of it back - what a guy.He had the talent to be the best player of his generation and one of the best ever. Unfortunately he didn't have the temperament or whatever we want to call it to do it. He certainly had the game. He has always been a favorite. Talk about squandering opportunity.
