So one more after Pringle and Johnson barring academic casualties and decommitments? Was last year's class short of 25?

I think we had 20 last year actually enroll. Can any of the early admit Jucos relate back?

Not certain, but I suspect that a few of these mid year guys can indeed be back counted. Some have speculated that UK will take 26-27. With signing day right around the corner, I guess that we will know soon enough.

I don't know why I feel like we will steal a few

My thoughts as well. If he beats out Barker, I'm fine with it. If he doesn't, it will only make Barker have to work harder.

Exactly. That's another added bonus to bringing in dual-threat guys. If Barker wins out, he will have to be quite a bit better at throwing the ball and will have to have the ability to read defenses pre-snap. Will give him a goal to work harder to achieve, because he's never going to match Johnson's speed, so he'll have to improve accuracy and pre-snap reads. Neither will have an advantage of getting more time with the QB coach and offensive coordinator, so I don't see any downside here.

Also, it gives our defense the chance to practice against a QB that can run the read-option well. They'll be able to get practice in against something that kills our defense (and really, most defenses across the country).

This will be Barker's 3rd season as a college QB. He should show marked improvement in reading defenses, calling audibles, going through his progressions and accuracy.

Having a backup that can push for a starting spot and give our offense a different look will be a huge plus.

If you all haven't read these articles, I'd highly recommend it. It at least gives us an idea of what we're getting.

If he was hand picked by Gran and Hinshaw, that's good enough for me, having competition always is a good thing.

think all the skill players on offense will get new starts having new coaches at each position
I agree. Clean slate. Opens the door for those who are willing to work. Guys who come into camp feeling entitled will be left behind and rightfully so.

After looking at the highlights, Johnson may be tough to keep off of the field. Barker is going to have to come out like gangbusters and earn the job. After seeing what Barker looked like in game conditions last year, Johnson may be our best option.

Johnson seems confident he can come here and start. I like that.

I believe you are correct, 20 did enroll. Far as I know all of the early enrollees both high school and JC could be backcounted. However we signed 22 to LOI's last year and you don't get a LOI back is the recruit doesn't enroll. So the most we can backcount is three. That would allow we to sign up to 28.

HL lists him as signed.

Wonder what he signed? Per three different sites, the period for a mid year Juco to sign a LOI, ended yesterday, the 15th. Guess he could have signed it yesterday but not announced it until today.

For those of you who know a little about passing mechanics, are you seeing what I see with a VERY low release?

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY like getting an athlete at QB who has great feet and has the arm to at least sling it--and with good height maybe he can get away with it-- but I think I read somewhere his Juco coach thought he had "the best mechanics he's ever seen." Just can't see that kind of statement when seeing his elbow below his shoulder at release point every time.

Financial Aid papers can be signed at any point. I'd guess that's what he signed.

I don't know what you're talking about. Best tackler I've seen since Joe Montana.

Not worried about it as long as it works. He has a quick release so maybe that can compensate. I'm not a qb coach. Our qb coach is one of the best though and he doesn't seem to have s problem with it either. A lot of great qbs have had weird release points; Bledsoe, Kosar come to mind.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic with him. I drink the blue kool aid every year and get burned so this year I'm switching it up and expecting the worst, hoping it will have the opposite effect.

He looks like a good prospect. If for anything else he provides compotition for Barker which is a plus. Like others have said, he's not coming here to sit. The coaches will devise packages for Johnson even if he does not start. He's another good athlete for the team which is another plus.
