Can he play ILB? We could use some more help there.

We have help coming there in the form of two excellent incoming freshmen, though one of which is now hurt.

With respect to the OP, I like the move as well. Luke Gifford replacement?

Looks like Jojo is on the other side with Alex Davis, backing up Ferguson.

Welp he played OLB in HS and recruited here as a DB as he was considered too small to play at LB. 6'1 210 According to ESPN. He has experience playing OLB and injuries are the only thing that has kept him off the field since he's been here. He is now 6'1 225 and a vicious wrecking machine and is the hardest hitter in that secondary. Dude hit's like a ferocious LB and his football IQ is through the roof and folks, he's got speed!

IIRC Damon has been ringing that bell that he'd love to see JoJo move down to LB more or less since the kid got here. Whatever will get him on the field, I'm just glad he's healthy enough to be competing again.

We make WAAAAAAY too much of how tall and heavy kids are. You can either play or you can't. 15 pounds ain't the difference between a bench warmer and all-conference.

You might want to check on what NU players weighed playing that WILL spot through the mid-90s. If you think they were 245 pounders and 6'3 you better think again.

Sincerely,
"Lavontae David is too small for the NFL"

I 100% agree. In a 4-3 apples to 4-3 apples comparison. I know college isnt the league, but 3-4 OLB? Built like Von Miller and Khalil Mack hes not.

That said the kid sounds talented. Get him on the field. Just thinking is OLB his long term home? Could be, hell if I know. I personally love getting big safeties on the field as linebackers ala Nate Gerry (in the league as LB). But maybe long term hes a MLB?

JoJo is suited for OLB, but they will keep him in the secondary and play him at the Nickle. He will be starting Safety next year barring any more untimely and unlucky injuries. They will not move him to ILB!

Nate Gerry is in the league yes, but JoJo is way faster and hit's harder than Gerry did. JoJo's football IQ is far higher than Gerry's when he was here. My belief is this, if Domann stays healthy he will go quite a bit higher than Nate went in the draft as JJD's ceiling is much higher than Nate's was. Not knocking NG here, just stating a fact.

Was Pete Carroll’s recipe for success at USC. He always liked moving guys down a position for speed purposes.

It's not saying much to say JoJo has a higher IQ than that box of rocks.

I agree JoJo has a great chance to find a new home and he is definitely an elite athlete. But way "faster than Gerry"?? Let's not get carried away Gerry was 100m state champ.

I hope you are correct ..but at present, the only facts with regards to the NFL are that Gerry has started and is solidly in the 2 deep for the Eagles while JoJo has yet to start and just broke into the the 2 deep at Nebraksa in week 8. Granted he has been hampered by injuries but it remains to be seen if Domann will play in the NFL.

He was slated to start at Safety this year until his latest injury in fall camp and that came out of Frost's mouth. JoJo is finally once again at 100% health

I was a big fan of JoJo coming out of HS, but how do we know he is faster and hits harder than Gerry? He has had two knee operations and has only played in a limited role on special teams. I also don’t know if it is a given that JoJo starts at safety. D. Williams will most likely be at one spot and Dismike has had some PT at the other and the staff seems high on EJ Smith, also have offers out to some JUCO’s.

The last coaching staff were extremely high on Domann, but 2 ACL injuries shelved their plans for him.

Except the part where JoJo is way faster. Nate has some track times that beg to differ. Ftr, I am a big JoJo fan.
Well the fact is, there is speed and then there is football speed, 2 totally different things. JoJo as I said runs a legit 4.4 and Gerry while here ran a 4.5. Gerry may have been a state 100m champion, but that was a number of lighter pounds ago. It's about speed to the adjusted weight.

Just wait and watch, JoJo is one of those game changers in the secondary, as I said a couple of posts ago that Frost said JoJo was gonna start at Safety until his back injury in fall camp as JoJo was the most impressive DB throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall until he got hurt. They are more than likely going to utilize him these next 2 weeks as the Nickle.

Yeah, I’m putting my money on Gerry in a foot race. It’s great to say someone runs a 4.4. I’d like to see it.

Let's pump the breaks juuuuuuuust a tad. I really hope Jojo can get on the field and start making plays... but Nate Gerry started four years and was really solid. Gerry was a knucklehead that didn't go to class, sure, but right now we don't have evidence that Jojo is faster, hits harder, or has a higher football IQ. I hope you are correct...

I absolutely hate everything about Ohio State but Archie Griffin once said something about it not being about the size of the dog in the fight but about the size of the fight in the dog.

I do not recall Coach Frost saying that. I hope you are right about JoJo, but we really don’t have anything to base it on yet. Hope he can get out there and make some plays the second half of the season.

***Chinander said having a versatile player like JoJo Domann who could play safety, nickel, dime, and outside linebacker was very valuable because they can mix him in on multiple defensive packages.

NOBODY is saying he isnt intense.. isnt good.. its just your the one saying hes better than Gerry.. faster and making comments that over inflate in my opinion.. based on a practice.. and a" Legit" 40 time just take a breath...step back for a bit.. your montray of wanting to be right here is whats getting old.. you throw enough darts bud...one will stick i guess then we all can come together and say..you were right.. is that what your seeking?.. one more thing if he is scheduled to start next year like you say and he is 100% now why doesnt he get the nod now?.. dont tell me he needs reps either

The only 40 times that we can trust are 40 times at the NFL combine. Anything else is completely made up. Gerry ran a 4.58. He also was a state champion in the 100m.

There are more than a handful of players from our past who were great practice players that never produced on game day. Does not mean JoJo is one of those but let's wait and see now good he might be please!

But all jokes aside, I think we all see potential in JoJo but there are a lot of steps to take to be that player. Let's hope the versatility gives him a chance to finally log some meaningful minutes. GBR

Nate Gerry is pretty fast for a safety and is a great athlete. I don't know how you can draw the conclusion that Domann is a much better player when he hasn't even started a game yet while Gerry was a multiyear starter.

I'm not taking anything away at all from Gerry as I loved watching him play. He started his career under Pelini as a LB his Freshman year.
